Now that i have gone into the other room and confirmed my HM-R Elint Seeker's nosecone is brown/tan plastic, and not painted grey plastic, I would get a q-tip and dab some Winsor & Newton BRUSH CLEANER & RESTORER on there and stroke carefully. I'd probably be bold but it could not hurt to mask off other areas. that stuff has worked well for me removing paint. And I use it often to clean my airbrush as well as bristle paintbrushes.

    YMMV

Not sure I have something quite on that level on hand, but I'll keep that in mind if it's needed.  Thank you!

I think you'll need something quite a bit stronger. I was trying to strip an HMR (the tampo, which might be tougher) and 90% isopropyl alcohol wouldn't touch it.

Oof.  Well I'll give something a try tomorrow and see what happens!

Just got my ELINT Seeker today and it is lovely!  Sadly there's a black paint smudge on the other side of the nose.  What would be a safe way to take that off?  Just a bit of rubbing alcohol?

And how much kibble is still visible in fighter mode. This is the best 2SS effort yet, but it still doesn’t fully capture the sleekness of the design. It’s possible there was just too much anime magic to ever fully realize it.

I do appreciate the engineering that went into the hips and legs to get them all where they need to go. Full marks for that.

I feel like this about as good as we can expect at 1/100 scale.  Definitely leagues better than the shitpiece Evolution Toy put out...

And the gunpod not fitting is kinda worrying. Hopefully just a flub. Wait, two gunpods?

The second gunpod is to mimic the storage gimmick (more accurately, the gunpod being ejected from inside the armor).  I don't think there's any way to replicate it faithfully.  There's animation magic going on there.  Even when collapsed as the lineart calls for, the gunpod is simply too long to fit in the left arm armor.

    VF 1D.................ooooooooh when?

VT-1 Super Ostrich from DYRL, not the VF-1D.  I'm sure they'll get around to it at some point though.

I expect those to be standard for a DX release.

I don't use the landing gear or chicken hands (they're as bad as the old 1/48 chicken hands) on the VF-1 but I dislike having to swap the canopy and gunpod handle to transform it.

The VF-2SS is a larger aircraft so I'm hoping Bandai can do better this time around. Considering it's nearly double the price of an HMR VF-1 w/super parts, it better be.

Note: The Tamashii page already mentions swappable landing gears and hands. As well as "parts" for the gunpod. There's also mention of swappable "smaller size wings" (most likely these are the battroid mode wings that was also done with the VF-1) .

Bandai is pretty good about listing all the various parts for the figures.  There was no mention of canopy/heat shield parts so I think we can conclude that those don't need to be swapped for transformation.

As for the gunpod, there's no additional "parts" for it mentioned in the Bandai listing, only the gunpod itself.  It looks like it collapses, and indeed it looks like it slides into the left arm SAP module, but I wonder if it can be inserted all the way?  It's sticking out a bit in this picture here:

And with this crude Photoshop of mine, you can see the size of a "collapsed" gunpod next to one of the arm pieces:

Looking at the pictures, I don't think the heatshield is a separate piece from the chest. It appears to be fixed, and the cockpit folds/slides underneath it.

The landing gear are still a mystery. I wouldn't be surprised if they swap out like the VF-1 gear.

Agreed on both points.  I see trap doors where the landing gear "should" be stored but they probably just swap-in/out once the doors are opened.  I think this is just the cost of doing business for a VF at 1/100 scale.

  9. I wonder about the hands as well.  Clearly they need to be removed for fighter mode?  Don't see any obvious way they could hide away.

  10. From machine translation:

Set Contents: Body · Landing Leg Complete (swap-in landing gear for fighter mode?), · Gun Pod · Replacement Wrist Right and Left 3 Types · Replacement Small Wing Parts (extra tail fins?  Shorter wings for Battroid mode?) · SAP Unit Complete · SAP Squire Drone × 4 (Yay!) · Complete joint parts for soul STAGE · Replacement antenna

  11. Welp, got my VF-19 in the mail today and it's a lovely piece all around. However I appear to have a defective right-wing booster part. The circle-nub and tab that let it clip onto the wing root are noticeably flattened, so the part simply refuses to tab onto the wing root at all. It just pops right out. The left booster on the other hand is perfectly fine and tabs in with no problem (and rather securely at that!)

I'm not sure if there's any recourse for me as I bought this off of Mandarake.

  12. Wish the E could have its radar part on though.

I think the E type's radome might fold up and mount underneath like the F-type's weapon pod. You can make out what looks like a hinge at the very rear of the fighter in the official art. Compare with Hayate's VF-31F:
