  1. Your talking about these Valk's like they are real machines....... Its Anime, creativity, art work, labor and design. All of which the VF-2SS, VF-2JA and the Metal Siren have. The VF2 Rail gun is awesome!!

If this story had been done by Kawamori, people wouldn't be haters on this series. I am still always amazed how this series & mecha get treated like crap, when every other Macross series gets the respect it deserves. Its still MACROSS one way or the other, despite who designed the Mecha, no one goes Bananas when a new character designer takes over.......

If Yamato or Bandai made Macross II Valkyries in 1/60. Frak my credit cards, I'm getting minimal 2 of each, thats how awesome they are!!!!!!!!

    Macross 4 life!!!!!!

Totally agree. Yamato or Bandai should definitely make a 1/60 or 1/48 VF-2SS Toy...for anyone that's a fan of the VF-1S Strike, the VF-2SS is the next logical progression in terms of design flow. It's how one imagined the "next" VF-1S would look. In fact, that's probably why Kawamori went with such drastically different Y-Wing/Zentraedi-inspired mecha designs for Plus and 7 since the "evolution of the VF-1" look was already covered by Macross II at the time. Sure the Macross II OVAs had some weak moments, but the mecha designs were 10/10. They play Macross II music throughout Macross 7, so all the hate for this series can be confusing at times. I gotta imagine Yamato will eventually get to this, particularly if they start producing more obscure toys like the VF-5000...and let's not forget, Macross II OVAs, particularly the first few volumes, made a lot of money for Big West, Bandai and U.S. Renditions (Books Nippan)...there is a fan base to satisfy here...how can any Macross fan say this design won't sell: http://ghostlightning.files.wordpress.com/...-vf-2ss-mmm.jpg

  2. I completely agree. Big West can produce a show that features Max & Miria alongside new characters but not a show with Hikaru, Misa and Minmay? Come on. There are fans that supported Macross in the beginning--back in 82'-'83! Fans of the original show that spent tons of money to propel it to the success that spawned all these sequels set 50+ years in the future. Fans buying stacks of Bandai 1/55 valkyries and books and records/cassette tapes/CDs in 1984. They never got the ending they wanted. I remember when the Flashback 2012 LD came out in '87 there was so much interest in the new footage and..then in turned out to be just a glimpse of what could have been. Imagine a Megaroad 01 movie/OVA/series with the original cast, VF-4s in full-blown ultra modern CG battle scapes, Breetai, Minmay singing old and new songs--it would be colossal in both size and box office/DVD/BD impact. It would be a worldwide sales phenomenon for Big West. With that cast, it could be marketed everywhere. At the end of the day, Big West is a business, and clearly there is a business case that can be made for such a project. At this point I know there is a slim chance of the original cast ever returning (maybe for the 30th?) but imagine if Bilrer meets Minmay in the Macross Frontier movie and she sings the ending song along with Sheryl and Ranka...?! Yeah right.

Lastly, I would rather have no continuation of the original cast anime than a Hollywood live action flick that desecrates everything beyond comprehension. God help us if Hollywood ever makes a Macross live action flick with Charlie Sheen playing Hikaru and Ziyi Zhang playing Minmay....don't laugh...with the success of Transformers, worse things may happen...

Agreed, one of the things I asked myself was why wasn't Macross 7 about the further adventures on the Megaroad. I think they could have had more stories to tell if we followed them on their travels looking for a planet to colonize.
  3. I am looking for the rare Bandai 1984 red heat shield promo for the Strike Valkyrie. Once Bandai realized the heat shield in the '84 movie was actually red (mistakenly black in a few scenes), the company offered toy shops in Japan a special promo for Strike customers to win a red heat shield (to supplant the black shield packaged with the toy). I am looking for the actual promo card with the heat shields and stickers attached to it, preferably MIB. Let me know if you have one and we can talk business. Thanks

  4. I heard this was produced...Can't remember where though but it is a rare piece...

You are right, it was produced and is extremely, extremely rare. There are other people aware of its existence. Apparently the run was so small because Takatoku management figured it made no sense to produce a toy with a dead character on the cover.

  5. I am looking for a 1983 Takatoku 1/55 VF-1S that came in a blue box with Roy Focker on the cover, not Hikaru Ichijo. If you have this item, I will gladly pay you $1,000 immediately via PayPal for MIB or Near MIB condition. Thanks

  6. Any more info on that?

I've heard this from a number of people. The last valkyrie batch from Bandai was released 9 months ago; Toynami's announcement was over a year ago; Big West is delaying such a deal. CollectionDX has a mention of it here: "The 1/55 valkyries with the re-tooled heads are on hiatus, due to a licensing issue with Big West."

    http://www.collectiondx.com/article/nytf09...bandai_tamashii

I believe cancelled, not hiatus, is the more appropriate term...

  7. I'll have to look into that. To my memory, the only thing in the official announcement almost a year ago was the 1/55th only.

IMO, the Bandai 1/55 Origin of Valkyrie toys will never be officially released in the U.S. by Toynami. I understand that Big West did put a stop to this effort long ago. Apparently Bandai and Toynami were in agreement, but Big West was not. If anyone wants the 4 latest Bandai 1/55s from a U.S.-based dealer, I recommend Treasure Island Sports. They delivered mine back in August. In a related licensing issue, Big West is also the reason why, IF, a live action Robotech movie gets produced by WB, it will never feature the original Macross cast. Say hello to Scott Bernard.

  8. where is the best online store to get the vf-1s, vf-1j, vf-1a super max, and vf-1a super hikaru reissues for the cheapest price and will ship them to the US?

I got mine right away from Treasure Island Sports, back months ago when Bandai first released them. Seems they have a direct link to Japan to obtain the stock. I got them immediately. Many other dealers seemed to have been reliant on Toynami and are still taking pre-orders. Those will be come re-funds. Toynami is not bringing any Bandai 1/55s to the U.S. It's not happening. It's been nearly a year since Toynami first made the announcement; time to move on. Word is there are no more 1/55s coming from Bandai anyway. It appears Bandai is 100% on Macross F now, particularly with the movie coming in a few months...

  9. Here is a question. And if this was answered before, I apologize, I couldn't find it using search. Is there a remote chance that Richard Bilrer is in fact Breetai and that's why he keeps a picture of Minmay and looks forward to meeting her again using the Vajra's fold communication network? They both have an eye patch on the same exact side. Besides, how many aging Zentraidi would be obsessed with Minmay to this extent? If the answer to my question is yes, does that mean that we can expect that in the Macross F movie this summer the original cast of Minmay, Hikaru and Misa will be discovered aboard the Megaroad 01?

If so, Big West is going to have a massive theatrical run on their hands this summer. Fans who haven't paid attention to the series since 84 will be coming out of the woods to see Minmay and crew on screen. Just imagine the ending song, with Minmay, Ranka and Sheryl going all out.

Thoughts on this scenario playing out this summer at multiplexes all over Tokyo? See photos below:
