Phatslappy's Review of the Bandai 1/55 Scale VF-1J 02/04/2002

Introduction

My review will be broken up into 3 parts. The first part is an evaluation of the toy itself along with highlighting differences between the original Takatoku VF-1J and the reissue. The evaluation of the VF-1J will contain some objective analysis, as well as some highlights and failures that I see in the toy based on my own expectations. The evaluation won't center on what a more accurate representation of the Valkyrie should be because it is a reissue. That really should be left to a review of the original Takatoku VF-1J. The goal is to give a review of how well the Takatoku VF-1J is represented by Bandai and to highlight differences between the two toys. The second section will be focused on differences and highlighting features and deficiencies found between the Bandai VF-1J and the Yamato VF-1A. Finally, I will give my preferences on the differences found between the Bandai VF-1J and the Yamato VF-1A. I chose to compare the Bandai VF-1J to the Takatoku VF-1J for obvious reasons: they are supposed to be the same toy. I chose to compare the Bandai VF-1J and the Yamato VF-1A because both toys are first runs of the series. As the Bandai VF-1S is released, a comparison between the Bandai VF-1S and Yamato VF-1S can then be made, because at that time, we will be able to see if improvements were made between each release, which will contribute to one of the aims of this review.

The aim of this review is two fold: to help you decide which Valkyrie you prefer and to create a dynamic review. If you're in the market for a Valkyrie, my goal is to provide you with objective information so that you can decide which Valkyrie is the right one for you. Whether or not you are deciding between the Bandai VF-1J and the Takatoku VF-1J or between the Bandai VF-1J and the Yamato VF-1A. I don't want to make up your mind for you, but I want to provide you with as much information as possible so that you can decide for yourself which one you prefer. The second aim of this review to build an informational place that can grow over time. I'm quite certain that the information I provide will be inadequate given all I can add is what I know or see. But my vision is for others to contribute to the informational database so that eventually, an objective and comprehensive comparison will be available for everyone to see. I won't be showcasing pictures, as I think Graham's pictures do that quite well. But I will be including pictures to highlight the differences between the Valkyries.
