Story: B Rooster Teeth, the company behind the popular Red vs. Blue series, presents to us their homage to modern anime and role-playing games. RWBY starts off with an action-filled pilot episode, as Ruby Red uses her Crescent Rose scythe to fend off against a group of thugs. Then the series slows its pace to introduce the central characters and mix both anime and western styles of comedy in between. Animation: B+ The cel-shaded animation is rendered using Poser Pro 2014. Some simplistic designs and lack of detail are signs of the series' low budget. Despite these shortcomings, the presentation wows viewers with its lovely mix of light and dark colors, and the way it captures the anime look. Soundtrack: A- Perhaps the show's strongest point is the soundtrack, which consists of the punchy power metal-oriented opening theme "This Will Be the Day" and an array of different ending theme songs. The Bottom Line RWBY may be low-budget and short on running time, but it sure beats whatever is on Cartoon Network these days. It's also one of the better western tributes to anime. 6. Coming this fall on Adult Swim is Mike Tyson Mysteries, starring former boxing champion Mike Tyson himself.
  7. Tobot (변신자동차 또봇) is a South Korean 3D animated series about transforming cars, and it's pretty bad. Not as nauseating as China's Astro Plan, but ghastly enough to make SD Gundam Force actually watchable. It also appears to be sponsored and/or co-produced by Kia Motors, as the good guy robots consist of the Soul, the Sportage, the Forte/Cerato and the Morning/Picanto. The toys look pretty cool, though. Tobot YouTube Channel Tobot @ Cartoon Network South Korea

  9. Coming to Disney XD on September 26 is the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series. While it continues where the first film left off, it will not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so don't expect anything leading to Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
  10. From Robb Pratt, the animator behind the acclaimed fan films Superman Classic and Bizarro Classic, comes his tribute to Flash Gordon. It won't have Queen music, but it's better than any Flash Gordon adaptation that came after the 1980 film. Flash Gordon Classic Superman Classic Creator Robb Pratt Unveils Flash Gordon Classic
  11. In 1994, Disney released Gargoyles, proving that they can make a serious action cartoon and go head-to-head with Batman: The Animated Series. Gargoyles is known not only for its darker tone, complex story arcs and Shakespearean themes, but also for the people behind the voices such as Keith David (Childs in The Thing, Armitage in They Live), Ed Asner (Carl in Up), Michael Dorn (Mr. Worf in Star Trek: The Next Generation), Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi in Star Trek: TNG), Jonathan Frakes (Riker in Star Trek: TNG), John Rhys-Davies (Sallah in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade), and Richard Grieco (Dennis Booker in 21 Jump Street and Booker), just to name a few. The series lasted for three seasons and 78 episodes before going off the air in 1997. But for those who miss the adventures of the Manhattan clan, there's good news: Disney has the entire series available on their YouTube channel (may not be available outside the U.S.). "We are defenders of the night. We are Gargoyles!" News Flash: Gargoyles Is Streaming on YouTube Direct YouTube Playlist Links: Season 1, Season 2, Season 3
