Macross colonization strategy

Hi there, last night I watched Mac 7 in the episode when Macross 5 fleet landed on planet Rax. As I can see, nearly ALL the ships including the escort ships landed on the planet hence leaving the fleet virtually unprotected from incoming enemy fleet from space.

As far as I know, before someone could actually land on a planet to start colonizing it, would it be best to send scouting party first rather than dropping an entire colonist on it ?

Since most Mac colony fleet are accompanied by warships such as the Macross itself, I think it would be wise to send only the colony ships to the surface while leaving the command ship and several escorts at space.

Or maybe the colonist think 'hey let's make another Macross City here, made the Macross transform and put it into a lake or something' :D Now that would be stupidly cool

Well I don't know for sure about this, but I can only say one thing, the destruction of Macross 5 fleet are caused by poor colonization planning, and partly, Max fault (He know the Varauta threats, yet he didn't warn Mac 5 fleet about it, instead he offerred Fire Bomber ????)

I think the message was real. Probably, there was no distress signal from the 5 fleet because they were more than likely being jammed by the Supervision-Protodevilin Fleet. (as Geperunichi uses Supervision Army ships, human fighters and soldiers, I would think they have something to royally screw any chance of calling for help).

I think it wasn't a bad idea to land and I bet they did send out scouts (they more than likely knew about the dinosaur things, but in the 7 Fleet's case, they didn't have time to. <- my explaination for why no one warned Basara, Mylene or Gamlin about the local life). They probably realized there was no danger in the water or the coast, so they landed.

I doubt they took down the WHOLE 5 fleet though. I do think some warships stayed in orbit.

As far as the scouts did report, there was nothing wrong with Rax. No sign of hostiles. Nice green planet and great for settlement. That's why they landed. After years of wandering, the troops also need shore leave. Heck, Max was going to give shore-leave to his own crew when they stop by. No one knew Macross 5 would be targetted. Regardless of whether or not they left ships in orbit, the entire M5 fleet was obilterated. If they left ships in orbit, they would have been destroyed. If they brought all their ships down, they would have been destroyed.

I agree that it was a dumb idea, but I think the Macross 5 fleet was forced to the ground much like the Macross 7 fleet. The message was probable sent before they landed or before the rest of the fleet was ambushed and forced to the ground. That’s what I think happened.

Well quess the entire Mac 5 fleet were obliterated on ground, since if they had left any ships in orbit the wreckage would be detected pretty soon by Mac 7 fleet right.

I think the varauta didn't force the mac 5 fleet to land since in the clip I saw, when the Mac 5 fleet touched down on the planet, there's no enemy fire firing down on them. One other reason which I just found out why the mac 5 fleet was destroyed is that they didn't have a lunatic pilot singing in a middle of a battle while Mac 7 fleet have Basara as their secret weapon

Seemed to me the Mac 5 fleet was blitzed after they landed and were caught off guard. They called the Mac 7 fleet before hand to tell them "Hey look what we found!" And then the 7 fleet headed over at 5's invitation. Since they were the ones that seemed to be targeted by the protodevlin, they probably didn't bother to relay it to the other fleets. Then they got the nasty surprise when they got to the planet.

Most likely the Mac7 fleet kept the U.N. Spacey and all other nearby fleets appraised of their situation at all times. The most probably explanation is that no one expected the Protodevlin to have the power to wipe out an entire fleet so easily, especially considering the Macross5 fleet seemed to be larger than the Macross 7 fleet (I'm basing this on the fact that we see multiple colony ships in the M5 fleet, while the M7 fleet only has City 7. Plus the M7 fleet's role wasn't as a dedicated colony fleet, they were also laying a communications infrastructure).

Morpheus,

Your mistake is trying to make sense out of M7... It is like trying to make sense out of Michael Jackson, or Tiny Tim, or the Teletubies.

What's there to make sense out of? It's pretty easy to understand.

Macross 5 fleet calls up M7 and says "We found something good. We're staying here now". Macross 5 begins colonization. Varuta fleet pops outta no where and obliterates the M5 fleet (i.e. no soldier is left alive). What's the problem? It won't have mattered if they left a small detachment of ships in orbit cuz they we're blow away. What's the big deal? Seriously, you people are making quantum physics out of a Harry Potter book. It's pretty easy and obvious to understand what happened to the M5 fleet.

Yeah its pretty simple to understand

1- M5 fleet finds planet

2- M5 fleet lands and discovers its safe

3- Sends ships down Maybe leaving some in orbit (or maybe not)

4- Tells M7 about it

5- Protodeviln attack suddenly killing virtually every soldier and taking the citizens to that crazy system thing

6- M7 fleet shows up and gets attacked

Now was it that hard?

Actually the citizens got put in the Matrix-style Spritia tank, and most of the soldiers they captured, brainwashed and made them fly the Varuta's fighters. They show all the newly brainwashed troops lined up before they throw them at M7, and over the next episodes, many are freed by Fire Bomber's music. They most likely did like they did with M7's VF-11's: catch them and drain the Spritia of the pilots. Then collect and mop up.

You'd all know this if you actually looked at my Protodevilin site

Indeed, the Macross 5 soldiers were converted to Protodevilin mind slaves and the citizens made to be a small spiritia farm.

You'd also know that if you watched the show :p

Considering some of you didn't know AND did watch the show. I sense a lack of observation.

Yes... Through the midst of the fruity-ness, that is the way I see it too.
