I don’t think it would really damage the story either way. He was a soldier turned assassin and it doesn’t really have to specify how long he was involved in those special operations before his death. And from what I understand they were trying to stay away from an origin story anyway. From everything said even up til now, Spawn isn’t going to be the main focus as character as being the plot and reason for investigation.
