Sad to hear that Cullen won't be doing Optimus anymore. Keeping him as Optimus was one of the best things to come out of the Bayformers. Did he retire?

As to Perlman, how does he sound as Optimus?

AFAIK Cullen is still on tap to voice OptimusĀ PrimeĀ in Rise of the Beasts. Perlman was cast as OptimusĀ Primal. And if your curious about how he is, he already did voice Primal in the Machinima Power of the Primes series. I think he was ok- notĀ great, and definitely not Gary Chalk, but he's not way off. You can find YouTube clips of him, I'm sure.

The first image shows Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Mirage, a mysterious old VW van and a red motorcycle all around Mr. Caple from Maras in Cuzco, Peru. The second shot shows Scourge, Nightbird and the orange two truck.

Yeah, it's been brought up before how stupid it is that it's not Jazz.

Nightbird, really?Ā  An FC or FD, 3rd/4th gen Rx7's, that would work; even a Z car but the R33 is only just lighter than a 3000GT or Mitsubishi GTO.Ā  Nightbird needs to go on a diet.Ā  I'll leave the Mirage that is Jazz alone.Ā Ā

I think the person who modded that R33 should be charged with crimes against humanity.Ā  They were going for theĀ  JGTC look but failed.

If they built that thing from a pile of scraps, fine, but if they did that to a perfectly good R33, there's a special place in hell for them.

I have no idea what we're talking about, but it does look overdone. That was one of the problems I had with the other films, is that the cars looked they came from a teenage run car show. The kind of person who would put a five-foot tall 'spoiler' on the back of an old Ford Escort...

Well, the robots-in-disguise thing was never taken very seriously...

Lol, that is awesome.

Yeah, none of the original designs were very discreet if translated to the real world.Ā  Something completely forgiven as a child and completely forgotten as an adult when chasing for screen accuracy.

Jazz:

Prowl:

Mirage:

The pics could go on forever, but yea, none of these cars are discreet, lol!

As a car enthusiast, the R33 is an eye sore, it has nothing to do with transformers at all.

Maybe they were going for the LM look:

For the folks that are into Fast and Furious or the Bay films, the GT-R in the group pic might be ok, but for automotive enthusiasts, it's pretty hideous, lol!

I was calling out the fact that they are using a G.T. car, that utilizes brute strength mixed with awesome electronics to go fast.Ā  Not exactly "Ninja" like, granted they are most likely just using the name and colors as reference.Ā  Peter, was calling out the fact the car looks like it is meant to be on a Race Track in an old but awesome Series.Ā  Japanese Grand Touring Car Championship, or JGTCC for short. Vehicles had to be production run vehicles, it had multiple classes with the 500 series being King. If you've played any Gran Tourismo or Forza and grabbed a 90's Japanese vehicle with a race livery, you most likely had chosen a JGTCC car.

I remember a few years back when there was the TFvsMarsAttacks crossover came out Cosmos finished off all the martians with Prowl going, "Well, now the Alt mode makes sense."

It's funny b/c it's true! But yeah, 13 year old me knew nothing about cars, and never questioned any of the alts, except Mirage, who I knew wasn't a streetcar by any stretch. Like most kids in the 80s, my BS tolerance was pretty high, or stuff like A-Team, Knight Rider, Airwolf, Transformers, GI Joe, M.A.S.K., etc ad nauseum wouldn't have achieved the staying power they have. I wish Hasbro would bring back M.A.S.K.- the premise was cool, the toys awesome, and it'd be great to see it revived.

These absolutely reek of Bay, especially the Decepticon vehicles.Ā Ā <_<Ā  Not instilling me with confidence. Thus far, no reveals of the beast characters, either, AFAIK. At this point, however, my interest has waned off scale low. I think Bumblebee will be the exception to the rule in TF live action movies.

This is what TFW2005 said about the group responsible for Nightbirds car mode.

"The official render of the alt-mode belonging toĀ NightbirdĀ fromĀ Transformers: Rise Of The BeastsĀ is unveiled byĀ PandemĀ RocketbunnyĀ who worked on the customization of theĀ Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R.Ā  Pandem Rocketbunny is a vehicle customization company established in Japan. The company is most famous for its Pandem Aerokits. Founder and CEOĀ Kei Miura was directly involved with the design of Nightbird."

So that is who you should blame Peter, it is clearly his fault.

Yeah, i think a lot of the cars are overdone and too "MichaelBay", and that makes me nervous.Ā  I hope it is just because they are all going offroading, but it does not instill confidence.

The cars for the Autobots looks pretty tame, actually. The only one that has any real embellishments is Bumblebee and the rest look pretty close to stock. Nothing compared to the last Bayversion of Optimus with those gawd-aweful stacks and the ugly, lurid paint scheme. I was fine with the first movie version because he looked like just a normal truck even though it wasn't a COE, but then it looked like Optimus kept going to auto truck shows and bolting on every add-on he could find like he was addicted to flash.

The Decepticon ones I can forgive, cause they're Decepticons... So far the Autobots look pretty vanilla, thankfully,

I donā€™t know why they insist that Bumblebee needs to have a respirator face.

I get that he is the face of the live action franchise but since the first Bay movie numerous other Transformers shows have launched and toys have been released were Beeā€˜s face was more in line with the rest of the Transformers.

I feel that at this point it is hurting the live action movies because you canā€™t have a main character that has more emotion than a lap dog.

You and I are eye to eye. I despise the stupid pacifier face they gave Bee. Too, his ridiculous inability to speak. And yeah, he was treated more like a pet in the Bee Movie than the millions-of-years-old skilled spy and combatant that he is, and that he's shown to be at the beginning of the film. I'm way beyond weary of the whole Bayformer feel and aesthetic that they continue to perpetuate in the live action films. I wish someone at Hasbro and Paramount had the chutzpah to go a different direction and leave Bay and his influence in the all-too forgettable past. I'm not saying full-bore G1. What I want to see are designs that work practically, similar to how the Binaltech/Alternators worked. Accordingly, I want to see folded legs or whatnot taking up backseat space- completely practical vehicle modes based upon working models that actually transform without a ton of CG magic and shredding of car parts into millions of weird and twisted shapes that make no sense mechanically. I love ILM, but FFS, I wish they'd found a practical solution to depicting transformations. Alternators should have been the basis, and Hasbro should have insisted on it.

Anthony Ramos is a former military electronics expert. Ah, the tired cliche of main protagonist being or having been military with either elite hacking skills or some other sort of high-end skill that will no doubt come into play during some contrived situation. At least Charlie and Sam were regular kids with no paramilitary backgrounds with elite skills. It just gets old. Perhaps I'm just jaded b/c I'm retired military, but I'm hardly elite at anything except bitching about Hollywood's perpetuation of military stereotypes.

RotB definitely treads familiar ground just by the look and feel of the trailer- too much Michael Bay influence for this TF fan. Mirage's transformation smacks of Jazz's from the '07 film, and I almost expected him to break into a Moonwalk as Anthony Ramos walks ahead without looking back. Cool guys used to not look back at explosions; now they don't look back at transforming bots doing spinning flourishes. From head-on, Mirage's (should have been Jazz, but whatever. Since Jazz died in the 07 film I guess they had to make him someone else) bot mode gives little indication that he turns into a car. šŸ˜’Ā Regarding the scale of the beasts, I'm divided: it makes sense in context of the bot modes, but not of the alt modes, which renders their taking of beast modes as disguise moot. To me, in the original Beast Wars cartoon, the scaling down of the bots so that the alt modes fit scale with the real creatures they were emulating made more sense. YMMV.

In the wake of my overly negative tone, let me leave on a positive note: I really dig that Cheetor transformation scene.Ā  Pretty cool.Ā
