Is this a reboot of the movie franchise?  Looks like they are going more for the look of the game, which is pretty cool....and they even included the infamous first zombie encounter scene straight out of the first Resident Evil video game!

I remember playing the original Resident Evil PS game when it first came out and being creeped out at that first cut scene with the zombie eating the dead body and slowly turning around to look at you.....classic!

Funny how it seemed a lot more creepier back then....lol

I forget if we have a 007 thread here or not, but I saw the new movie "No Time to Die" last weekend. I wasn't planning to - the Craig-era movies were a bunch of peaks and valleys, and unfortunately the valleys rendered the entire thing fairly unmemorable. The character "arc" that Bond was supposedly going to go through seemed to have turned into more of an ouroboros, with him starting and ending movies in seemingly the exact same emotional place. The supporting cast were never particularly memorable, though not through any fault of their own; they simply didn't get anything to do.

Anyway, I saw No Time to Die because the positive reviews piqued my interest, and... eh. There must be some disconnect between me and moviegoers writ large, because I found this one to have more in common with the two duds of this era (Quantum of Solace, Specter) than the two studs (Casino Royale, Skyfall). It's not as impressively bad as the former two (though it does have some residual plot stink from Specter to deal with), but it also doesn't do much to keep my interest the way the latter two do. Bond unfortunately repeats another trip around the character arc ouroboros, and the supporting cast again have very, very little time in the limelight. It's especially disappointing that Lashana Lynch as Nomi all but disappears from the movie after such a big hullabaloo is made about her character inheriting the 007 moniker. And similarly, Ana de Armas's character barely has any time to establish itself before being whisked out of the script entirely.

Oh well. Better luck to them on the next one, if there is a next one.

They probably changed the direction of the movie after all of the backlash that they got for replacing 007 with a woman.

I agree that the Bond 007 was up and down and we're on the same page on what we liked and didn't. I'm certainly not going out of my way to see the new one.

And I'll leave this here:

the more realistic take on the franchise.

Gritty is the term you are looking for.  The very first chase scene with characters making multiple jumps, any one of which would have shattered all the bones in the person's legs, threw realism right out the window.  Me?  I prefer a bit more cheese in my Bond films.  Maybe not as much as the worst Roger Moore outings.

I watched No Time To Die a couple days ago. I actually liked it quite a bit which is saying something considering how badly I've loathed Craig's so called "gritty" run as Bond.

One scene I found unintentionally funny was where Bond finds out they assigned the 007 number to Nomi and someone said "You probably thought they'd retire it in your honor."

Yeah, if this was taking all the events of the 60+ years of Bond adventures into account I could see it, but this is Craig Bond who earned his 00 status just prior to the events of Casino Royale and has spent most of his career failing his objectives, quiting, being disavowed, or retired. I don't think he ever actually went an entire film as a full MI-6 agent?

Casino Royale- Quits to marry honey trap Vesper Lynd ends up betrayed and goes rogue.

Quantum of Solace- Quits MI-6 extract revenge on those who manipulated Vesper Lynd.

Skyfall- Gets shot, disappears and is disavowed only to return be sent on a suicide mission only to be forced into retirement.

Spectre-Quits to marry Madelyn Swan.

No Time To Die- Is literally retired for 90% of the film.

It’s almost Halloween, so we decided to give the new Halloween Kills a try. I wasn’t expecting much and there actually is an interesting premise that everyone is tired of dealing with Michael Myers, so the entire town is up in arms.

Unfortunately the movie isn’t really scary and is more silly. It’s not boring, but there’s no real tension and you kinda know exactly what’s gonna happen. It may be a better option for a free watch, but I wouldn’t suggest paying for it

Looks dumb, lol. Seriously though, they couldn't make the store's name a... S MART?!?

😁

I'm totally going to waste my money to get this on-demand, and won't have a single complaint about it.

I’m definitely gonna have to see it. It’s got Ash teaming up with Spawn to defeat zombies or protect hyper consumerism. Either way I gotta see it

Spawn? Oh, you mean Black Dynamite.

So I've been on a tear recently through a bunch of classics in my HBO Max library.

- The Mummy (90's Fraser film): Finally watched this after having seen Returns way back when. Rollicking good time.

- The Mummy Returns: Just as fun as I remember it.

- The Scorpion King: I forgot how incessantly horny this movie is. Decent enough, though I don't think it's withstood the test of time.

- Blade: Still remarkably good. Still kind of chuckle at the weird edgy??? editing on that car chase.

- Blade Runner (Final Cut): It's good, I see why it's a cult classic... but it's also really rough, I can see why it wasn't successful. 2049 is much better.

- Jurassic Park: Good as always.

- Batman Begins: Good as always.

I'm debating between finishing up the JP and/or Dark Knight movies or starting the LotR Extended Edition movies. Oh, by the way, they finally got the Extended LotR movies on HBO Max.

The movie is great and the series even better. I think there’s a sequel, but I haven’t seen it

I mean, I'm not saying I minded seeing Kelly Hu with very little left to the imagination again, but ya can't deny it...

And like there was some bona fide goofy stuff in there. I know it wasn't even trying to be historically accurate, but you've got dudes practicing with modern-day kendo sticks! Goofy fun time.

Polished off BR2049 tonight. The music is so good. Same with Batman Begins. You can never go wrong with Hans Zimmer. The music felt especially well-tailored to the style of BB, versus the sequels.
