Fighter comparison pics with the Toynami Alpha:

Can definitely tell that the Sentinel Zeta is a few shades darker than the Toynami Alpha.

I take back what I said earlier:  the pilot figure is too pink, especially when contrasted to the darker red shade of the Legioss itself.

A few observations after futzing with the mech more:

     * It’s so much easier to pull out the vertical stabilizers, if you open the whole thing up as if you’re flipping out the hands.

     * Glad the plastic in the arms is a little more pliable.  Allows me to pull and get the forearm to open up so much easier.

     * I had a hell of a time trying to get the cockpit to snap back into place for fighter mode.  There’s a little tab in the front that cockpit has to snap into.

     * Do wish we had the option to change the cant of the wings, but it’s a minor thing.

Do you mind sharing which paints/markers you used and how you applied them?

Not at all. ^_^

Mr. Color lacquers are plentiful in my area, and they dry quickly (which is great for an impatient guy like me).

You've gotta keep them thinned, though, so that the paint gets applied smoothly and evenly.

Brushes aren't ideal for sharp little details, however, which is why I use stickers whenever I can get away with it... like for those tiny clips on top of the helmet visor.

If you're anything like me, you've got lots of little sticker scraps from other toys to cut up and customize...

Bits this small require more dexterity than my manly fingers can manage, so I use these special modeling Q-tips to apply them.

I’m sure I’ve posted pics of Luke and Wicket before. ;)

But just wanted to snap quick comparison pics.

That red Alpha got a busted heel booster, and the other heel has shown some cracks.  So, kinda don’t want to move it too much.

Plus, I’m super OCD about the positioning I got that Alpha and the rest of those birds locked in:

Thanks a lot for that! :)

I'll have to break out the paints when my renovations finish next month.

Thanks everyone! :hi:

Yeah about the thick white paint @tekering, I really should just buy a small bottle for custom work.

But I’m too lazy (or cheap :pardon:), so I just pull it from a quart can we have for touch-ups around the house.

Just opened my Zeta, and briefly handled with it in Fighter mode..

Besides the much tighter Houquet figure now compared to Stick, there have been a number of tweaks done for more pleasant handling experience:

1. The lower arms peg firmer to their shoulders & the legs. I remember for the Eta, I had to do quite some messaging around that area to make everything stay together firmly. So there's less of that creakiness when zooming it around now haha..

2. Both wing flaps have lost their slop and are properly tight. Which means the dreaded problem of left wing flap popping out is gone.

3. The left vertical stabilizer now stays in the proper outward angle position, so both stabilizers angle consistently. In the Eta, that left stabilizer always wanted to pop back to the straight position with the slightest touch. However, this time, I could not swivel both stabilizers out from the arms from its default out-of-box configuration. They swiveled up 1/3 of the way & felt like something will break if I forced them further. I had to open up both arms (as if to bring to hands out) for the stabilizers to fully swing out.

4. The rear landing gears can now be pulled out much more easily, as compared to the Eta which were so tight. Still wish they be made of metal though, as the plastic landing gears still feel quite fragile.

Overall, just from fighter mode impressions, hats-off to Sentinel for having done admirable job tweaking various little stuffs for better fit. :good:

Except the intake covers though; one of it still wants to fall off all the time..

After spending years handling Toynami’s Alphas, it’s so refreshing to handle a toy that holds a pose and doesn’t feel like it’s gonna flop if I even dare to look at it funny.

The Sentinel is a little tricky to get all the shoulder hinges/joints realigned straight to go back into fighter mode.  But it is a pretty ingenious design that they pulled off.

In any case, less writing and more better colored Houquet pics:

anyone looking for this item?  still sealed inside the unopened DHL box from amazon japan.  Thought i cancelled it long ago but clearly not.  I would much rather hand it to a fellow Macross/Mospeada fan than send it back to Japan.

Hand it... for free? For free, I'll take it.

Darn fine work. The original moulded colour made this the first item on my covid cancel list... This repaint is making my wallet itch again.....

I actually like the darker shade of red too.

Yeah, yeah, I know Sentinel is not beholden to the anime.  But there are scenes where the Zeta is shown as dark red.  Something different from previous versions isn’t a bad thing.

Initially, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the two-tone red either.  But I’m enjoying the heck out of the Sentinel design so much that the two different reds doesn’t bother me as much.

. . . Can’t say that about the pinky pilot though. :p

If you had to choose ONLY ONE toy between Riobot Fuke Legioss Zeta or the future Cyclone bike?   Which is the potential better ONE toy?  Paint / Construction of toy?

I dont have any Mospeada figures right now, and i just want one of the two above.   The only Riobot figure i have is the Iron Giant, which i love.

I am leaning towards the bike, but...

If you're getting only one, get the Beagle/Toynami Ride Armor. My $.02.

If he’s only getting Houquet’s stuff, then the Toynami/Beagle would not be an option sadly.

I’d say get both, but if choosing between the two?  Go with the Ride Armor.  Almost everyone’s done a Red version of the Legioss.

But CMs smaller version is the only modern version of the Bartley Ride Armor available currently.

Just pray Sentinel gets the color right.
