The HWR-00 Monster was stated somewhere to be inspired in Sumo fighters and the Sumo fighter fighting stance. Reed somewhere also that a Sumo fighter stomping with both feet is supposed to symbolize stomping over evil. And thus also puny hangar floors :D

Ah yes, intact flooring... the greatest evil of all.

About Cheyenne..., yes, yes, yes, but still seems more advanced than any previous... or should I say LATER destroid. All is fixed in statistics adjusting and history tweaking, but the model per-se couldn't do that without that background facts.

I'm not sure I agree with the idea that the ADR-03 Cheyenne looks more advanced than the 04 Series Destroids.

As a CG model, it's drawn at a much higher level of detail than the original destroids but if you look closely at the actual design it's very rough and noticably more primitive than the 04 Series.  It's really evident when you look at the line art for it.  The whole design is very top-heavy and with its disproportionately small backwards-jointed legs it's visibly poorly suited to walking at all.  Its wheels are there to help it get around without having to walk.  It's got this big, delicate, rocket nozzle that looks fresh off a mid-1960s-era rocket on its back.  The crew sits in an armored cupola on the unit's left shoulder that looks like it was nicked from a Cold War-era tank.  The shoulder opposite the cockpit is home to a radome that was very clearly borrowed from a 1980s vintage Phalanx Block 1A CIWS turret manufactured by General Dynamics for the US Navy.  The pair of rotary cannons it has are literally 1970s vintage GAU-12 Equalizers... the exact same model used on the AV-8B Harrier II and AC-130 Spectre and Spooky II.  They're not protected from the elements or anything, they're just hanging out there on the end of the arm with all the machinery exposed like they were an afterthought.  It's got two different sets of manipulators, but one is visibly (and explicitly) torn from a VF-0 and mounted on the back of the arm where it'd be difficult to use and the other is a comically primitive one looks like it was nicked from a Mars Rover.

So much of its hardware and design is visibly primitive if you know what you're looking at that its superficial advanced-ness lent to it by the CG animation evaporates and it looks like exactly what it was supposed to be: a transitional model robot caught between conventional military technology from the late 90's and early 2000s and the later overtechnology-based models we know and love from Super Dimension Fortress Macross, hastily hacked-together out of whatever parts were collecting dust in someone's warehouse.

KW doesn't care, nor needs to, about the timeframe to include his new cool toy, even if the setting is prior to mainline series, because that is the job of the personnel charged with canon continuity.

The Cheyenne isn't even Kawamori's... it was designed by Junya Ishigaki, with evident care in his line art and early drafts to make something visibly more primitive than the Destroids from the original series.  It kinda draws a line under my point that while Shoji Kawamori might not care, everyone else involved seems to.

Well, Kawamori-san et al are on record as saying the Monster has literally a "one-step world".

Macross II: Lovers Again quite sensibly replaced the Monster's walking systems with gravity control.

Not the first to do so: HWR-00 are seen rolling in the Mars operations in SDFM. Either it was heavy animation simplification, or the thing had threads.
