jenius
I don't own every V2 VF-1 toy, and some I owned and sold but didn't take enough photos of. I'm hoping people can help me out by sharing some photos with me to solve my OCD. I'm looking of pictures of the boxes of the toys so I can do this for every release: I would also love to be able to provide this picture for every release: The first image is six photos stitched together in Photoshop. The second picture is a top down photo with the top clamshell removed to reduce glare (with all the parts in their proper positions), it's one photo for standard releases, two photos for bundled sets. Here's a list of what I need in no order 1) VF-1D Trainer 2) DYRL VF-1A Hikaru 3) DYRL VF-1A Hikaru with fast packs 4) DYRL VF-1A Max 5) DYRL VF-1A Max with fast packs 6) DYRL VF-1A Hayao 7) DYRL VF-1A Hayao with fast packs 8 VF-1J Hikaru with fast packs 9) VF-1S Focker without fast packs 10) VF-1S Focker with fast packs (first release) 11) VF-1S Hikaru without fast packs 12) VF-1S Hikaru with fast packs 13) VF-1S Hikaru with fast packs one year anniversary box (with flashlight) 14) VF-1S Focker TV version with fast packs 15) VF-1S Focker Low Vis (top down no clamshell shot only, have the box) 16) VF-1A Angelbirds 17) Arcadia VF-1S Hikaru with fast packs (regular release) Oh sweet sassy molassy, that's a lot! Any help you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated. You don't have to worry too much about the background since I'm using Photoshop to lift the box out. The less glare you can have on the box though the better and if you could get the box to be square with the camera that would be huge (so the top and bottom of the image are roughly the same size). I don't have much to offer you in return for your efforts other than the knowledge you helped make anymoon a better reference for folks. Photos can be sent via email to micronian_ace@anymoon.com but if you have a lot of what i'm looking for, sending one email per toy is probably best to avoid size issues. I'm hoping to post these photos in HD so no need to send extra large files over. No urgent rush on this, I plan on adding additional box photos each time there's a new Arcadia toy to add (like the upcoming PF VF-1J Jenius). Shizuka the Cat
Do you have a picture resolution preference? Also, is it okay to send the individual pictures, rather than the 6-picture stitching of the box exterior? jenius
Individual photos are great, no worries there. As to resolution, it's going to end up in a 1920x1080 spread so the camera only needs to be like 2.1 megapixels. If you have a camera that is 9 megapixels or better, sending the photos over in 4K resolution is fine too but I might have to figure out some sort of file share so we don't run into email issues (or just send one or two pics per email maybe). jenius
I've been busy trying to get my video review ready for today but thanks to dafob for coming through on the DYRL VF-1A Max and Anniversary Hikaru Strike toys! Also thanks to anyone else who has expressed interest so far!
jenius
Only stitched one together so far, should the top or bottom of the box be upside down? Like, if you picked up the box and you tipped it forward, would hte writing be upside down (same idea with the bottom). I've noticed some of my V2 pictures show it this way and others do not... but I don't have access to all the boxes to double-check why I did this. When the box is laid on its back side, I believe the top and bottom sides should have the UN Spacy logo facing towards the front-side of the box. Example picture below... Shizuka the Cat
Hikaru VF-1J with Super parts. Sorry @jenius my pictures are not very good. I only have the camera in my cellphone, and the box is so shiny that it very reflective that the lighting causes glare spots. Front flap exterior: Front flap interior: Right side: Back: Left side: Top and Bottom sides are identical, with text on both sides read correctly when box is laying on its back:
jenius
I can work with those! If it's not too much to ask, can you try taking a pic ( just one of any side) with the flash turned off? it may be dark but if it's not too dark I can brighten it up in Photoshop. Don't worry about cropping, I'm going to be doing that anyway.

I had originally tried taking pictures without the flash at first, but I was seeing myself and my furniture reflected on the box more than I could see the actual art. I wonder if it is a lighting issue. Or maybe it is better to use a flatbed scanner instead of a camera?

Is it bad that I am seriously pondering wearing a black garbage bag in order to try suppressing my reflection on the box art? I will try taking a non-flash photo for you @jenius after the sun goes down. Maybe a darker room will help dampen some of this reflective glare. dafob
I know what you mean about the reflection. I'm sure if you look close enough at that VF-1A Max box, you'll see my reflection on all of the sides. I think the best way to do it is to have a light source to the side of the box instead of directly in front of it. Cuts down on the glare, but I could be totally wrong. I noticed your reflection on the Max box a bit. I feel like this Hikaru box is way worse! LOL I wish I had those box lights that photographers use
jenius
The reflective surfaces definitely cause me headaches sometimes also. As dafob said, lights off to the edge of the box (one on either side) is a pretty good set up. I also have the ability to set a 2 second time and use a tripod but what you guys have provided is great, these don't have to be perfect. mickyg
I'm happy to provide some shots of the Hikaru 1J super box too Jenius. Don't want to rob you of the assist though, Shizuka. I have a softbox and lighting tent that should make getting good shots pretty simple. Happy to at least give it a shot. Heh...photography humour... In other words, I want him to have the best quality photos possible. As such, if you are able to provide better shots and lighting than my horrible $80 cell phone, by all means, please do so. My ego won't be hurt (much) by it. =)
mickyg
Hey, those are fantastic for an $80 cell phone! I'll see what I can do with my setup though. I need an excuse to use it for something like this, ever since my son started using it for he Lego stop motion ipad movies (which are great fun, by the way). The Hikki 1J is literally the only item on that list that I have. I have 2 VF-1 assembly kits but no other Yamato boxes at all. I think the valk is still in it after a move too, so it's just begging to be used 'for the greater good' on Anymoon, right? mickyg
Got a few shots but it'll be a good 10 hours before I can process them. Sleep beckons and I must answer. I forgot I'd panel lined this valk, too. It's subtle and may be something I can hide in post processing.

Shizuka the Cat
Here is my re-attempt at taking pictures, without using flash. The box is still extremely reflective, so I tried standing a little to the side so that I would not be reflected on the box. These pictures are not very good, but I figured I would include them in case they are at all useful.
Shizuka the Cat
Ok.... Maybe I am a little obsessed. Hired a photographer to take some box pictures. He is starting to do some color correction in Light Room. More soon...

Darotower
I have some pictures of the boxes but those ones are with water mark, I can retake some pictures with better light on and capture all the views for you.
