Why not just call it "Ninja-The Movie!"

Looks like to could be a fun, mindless action film but I'm having hard time seeing this as Snake Eyes.  Nothing they've shown so far suggest they know who these characters are.   The key moments that define who Snake Eyes isn't that he became a Ninja.  He's defined by tragedy and the bonds he made during war.  I really hope that when Storm Shadow introduces Snake Eyes to his Ninja he does so by telling them "This is my old army buddy.  He's going through a really hard times right now."

Going to predict the entire plot.

  • Snake Eyes a talkive drifter that get's in a bunch of fights end up helping Storm Shadow out of a jam.
  • They insantly become friends and Snake Eyes trains to become a Ninja.  It is one of those fast instant friendships that make no sense.  It would make sense if it this was a movie about love at first sight.  A running joke between them is that Storm Shadow thinks Snake Eyes talks too much.
  • Scarlett makes contact with Snake Eyes and warns him that his buddy has been secretly working with the Baroness who works for a bunch of evil criminals.
  • Snake Eyes doesn't believe her but ends up finding out that it is true.  He has to fight Storm Shadow and during the fight Storm Shadow cuts his throat and says something witty.
  • The very last scene has him putting on the mask for the first time and in the next movie he's replaced by a stunt man who never takes the mask off or says a line.

Yeah, I can’t expect them to go full-on Snake was part of a Long-Range Reconnaissance Patrol team that lost of few key buddies, then lost his parents and sister to a drunk driver (while they were driving to pick him up), and that drunk driver happens to be Cobra Commander’s brother.

But yeah, tragedy should be his constant friend.  I mean his code name is freakin’ “Snake Eyes” for crying out loud.

Let’s just see if they can properly hit all the right beats with Snake’s origin story.

I don't know who has the more tragic backstory in the GI Joe mythos, him or Hit & Run.

Like Snake Eyes Hit & Run also lost his family to a drunk driver except who did it is unknown because he hit his family and ran. He was only three years old at the time and has no memory of his family. He spent his entire childhood escaping from foster homes and juvenile dentention until he turned 18 and was turned over to the state where he promptly joined the army. He excelled as a basic infantryman and mountain warfare specialist before being inducted into GI Joe where he took the codename Hit & Run.

Yeah... The dude ain't all there if his choice of codename wasn't a clue. He has no social life, no meaning, only the army. He's quite literally looking for a place to die.

Probably still Snake Eyes.

Lost his biological family AND his ninja family.  Thought for the longest time that his sword brother killed their master, thinking the reason was because Storm Shadow was actually trying to kill Snake instead.  Became horribly disfigured and lost his voice trying to save Scarlett.  Dude’s life is one bad break after another.

Of course, he gets the red-headed chick, has a pet wolf, and eventually reconciles with his sword bro in the end.  So. . .

^^Asian don’t raisin? :pardon:

Besides after beating a grip of gangsters in a rundown building, surviving a few insane prison fights, taking down two assassins (one wielding a baseball bat and another wielding hammers), and having a literal bloody throwdown with an insanely skilled fighter, you’d age prematurely and be considered a hardcore badass too.

. . . Am I mixing my movie universes up again? :p

  • Old_Nash changed the title to Snake-Eyes - G.I. Joe Origins

I haven't been following this Origin movie. So in this movie, Snake Eyes is an Asian now?

To be honest, part of me really don't mind if they made him Asian this time. But part of me has always liked the unique characteristics of being polar opposites. Caucasian vs Asian. Black vs White. Belief vs Purpose. But bonded by being comrade-in-arms.
