Bandai DX Chogokin 1/48 VF-1

Since I know many of us have never landed on Hobby Search before, just following up on my experience thus far.  As some may recall, I received a damaged 1S.  Their invoice/receipt instructs to contact them for issues such as damaged goods within 7 days of receipt.  I did that the day it arrived.  I still haven't heard back from them after about a week.  I reached out two other times during their business hours without reply.

It doesn't shock me, but left with a Valk that I can't transform and the fact that no one ever lands there anyway, I decided to go nuclear rather than continue to let this drag past 7 days.  I reported to PayPal.  So, either they will kindly reply now and life will be good.  Or, I will be refunded completely and blacklisted from there.  I'm good with either outcome since it's generally impossible to buy DX Valks from them anyway.

So, sharing so you all know that this is another shop that isn't too responsive/helpful in terms of customer service (at least as it involves damaged goods in my case).

That sucks. I’m sure you’ll at least get your money and I’m sure here, someone will buy it off of you. Use the refund and funds when you sell to buy another

If you end up getting your $$ back and you're stuck with that one and don't want it PM me and LMK. I would have to know a little more about that crack, but I'm having a couple of customs done. If the crack can be repaired (it's getting pained anyway) I'd be happy to take it off your hands. You can add that money to your chargeback money and most likely more than cover the scalper price you will need to pay for a replacement.

Thanks!  Yeah, I'll either keep it and have it stay in fighter mode, or sell it under MSRP if I receive a refund so that someone who is a modeler or with an engineering mindset can grab it and fix, etc.

And as I was posting so were you.  Great minds think alike.  Will do bud.  Thanks.

Ah, this is one of those optical illusions isn't it?  It's really the same valk.

LOL you got me.

Mask off the landing gear bay, then place some clear plastic wrap over the rest of the leg because of Bandai's shoddy tampo printing (which can be peeled off with masking tape), then tape over that to keep it all together. Now I can finally prime the landing gear.

What kind of masking tape do you use for modeling?  Is it something special that seals well or will something like frog tape work?  I don't exactly trust regular household masking tape or even the blue stuff.  Frog tape is supposed to seal better, but again, that's for household painting.

If Bandai's tampo isn't great, is there some way to seal it to make it better, like some sort of matte clear coat or something?  Anything you recommend?

Don't use regular everyday masking tape. You should use masking tape specifically made for modeling as it will seal better and not leave residue. I use Tamiya masking tape.

Any kind of clear coat over the surface will serve to protect the tampo printing, like Mr Hobby Topcoat. Be sure to mask off any surface you don't want to get that stuff on (like the canopy). I clear coated my 1J and 1A to seal in the decals and panel shading. Additional protection for the tampo was just an added benefit.

Thanks Lolicon about the tip about the Bandai Tampo, I was just going to use the Tamiya masking tape right on it - lucky I read your post first.  Have white gears makes so much of a difference!  Hopefully I can get to the VF-1J & VF-1S over the holidays.

Does it have an adapter for 2 modes? I was thinking the earlier convention photos only showed one. Or is it maybe unassembled to make the box thinner.

I don't think it needs one for anything but Fighter mode.

I believe you are correct.  It looks like two halves that you'll have to assemble to make a single fighter mode adapter.

Hope it doesn't result in some kind of stability issue.

Not publicizing the KC editions. Just wanted to point out that they seem to be coming out with a version 2 of their VF-1 using the Bandai DX hips.

Shoulder are also similar to DX and no longer Yamato/Arcadia type.

No problem. I found that out the hard way after losing some bits of tampo printing when peeling off some masking tape. Luckily it was black so I could touch it up by hand. Still, that shouldn't be an issue at all for a toy in this price range.

Show us pics of your work! :)

the nose in battroid still looks so long on the 1/48, the 1/60 is perfect

Well, you know what they say about battroids with long nose cones.
