Either the V2 VF-1J hikaru, or the VF-1S TV Hikaru should be the same figure.

Or the Arcadia reissues, for that matter.  You might still find an Arcadia VF-1J w/GBP at retail price...

Yamato 1/48 VF-1J Hikaru might work as well

Oh no, a properly-scaled 1:48 pilot would never fit in Bandai's DX cockpit. <_<

Sorry, these quick-and-dirty pics will have to suffice for now. :sorry:

@tekering, are the kite emblems on the boosters removable like the skull emblems are with the Striker Parts?

How's the angle of the gunpod with the TV packs?  I was wondering if they have a different angle that'll push it down a little.

I did discover something that holds the gunpod almost level with the DYRL packs though... there's enough slop in the locking tabs on the legs that you can bend the shoulders down, and angle the elbows upwards to get the gunpod level... the end result is that the arms just hang completely from the leg tabs, without even touching the vertical pegs under the backplate. <_<

I like the color of the TV super parts MUCH better than the movie strike parts.  I'm glad I ordered the 3 that I did.

To all the members doing custom panel lining....are there threads or would one of you mind doing a step by step thread on your process and techniques.  I did a pastel wash on one of my Yamato strike parts years ago based on suggestions from these forums and I loved how it came out, but there were no moving parts on those.  I'd love to do the same on my DXs as well but wasn't sure if you guys were disassembling your toys, if you were applying a top coat over your work, etc.  Everyone's work on here is so beautiful, I have no illusions of doing anything comparable, but I loved doing it, loved the results and would love to do it again.  Not to mention, seeing how some of you artists work your magic is fascinating to me.  I've searched the forum for threads about this subject but I've only seen how people have done their models, nothing on people working on these toys.  Of course, my lack of intelligence is well established on these forums, so there could be multiple threads on this subject right in front of my face and I just didn't see them.  If that's the case, a point in the right direction would be great.  Short of that, anybody thought about doing this?  I, for one, would really enjoy it.

@Lolicon is one of the best who does great job panelining his Valks. Though I'm not sure if he has a dedicated thread in the Workshop section. Would be nice if he has one because his white landing gear on DX Valks are one of the best. And I also love his panelining. ;) :good:

The other person you can check out is @wm cheng. He has his thread posted in the Workshop section with links to his finished work. Hope that helps.

Awesome! Looking forward to getting them. I wonder if Bandai really will do a Hikaru TV 1S like Yamato did? Maybe that's why the 1J pilot comes with the atmospheric helmet...

You can use Flory's model wash as it does not affect plastic and is simple to use.

https://www.florymodels.org/washes

You'd be surprised how much you can do with just a mechanical pencil.

https://www.hlj.com/gundam-marker-mechanical-pencil-sharp-0-3mm-gnzgp01

Pencil is probably the best method for Arcadia valks as their panel lines are super fine and is difficult to get a good wash on them.

Folow @wm cheng's work and threads, as his work is far superior and just all around amazing. Mine is just beginner level stuff. ;)

Hey, thanks man.  Just ordered some of Flory's wash and I'll try it out.  I've used ink pens before on some of my Yammies and, while I liked the results, I liked the wash much better.  Haven't tried a mechanical pencil, though.  Sounds interesting.  I might have to try that as well.  Thanks for the thread and video links as well.  I could (and have) read and watch those for hours.

@tekering would you mind confirming, if the VF-1S with strike packs can also fit, using the TV part transparent stand connector?

Am wondering what a vf-1s roy with DYRK strike packs on the special stand would look like...:hi:

Saburo, are you thinking of putting the kites onto DYRL strike packs or the skulls on TV packs?:acute:

If you're simply in it for the cool toys, then get the DYRL set for the awesome shoulder cannon. :good: And since the DYRL set comes with a backpack missile pod to replace the cannon, and the only difference seems to be the shape of the forearm missile pod and the slight color and sticker difference, you could use the DYRL set for both if those differences don't bother you.

Does the Bandai DX Chogokin Movie Super Parts Set come with a backpack missile pod? For reference, I checked their official product page, and they didn't have a picture of it.
Specifically, the "backpack missile pod" being referred to: is that the portion of the front of the super pack thruster where when removed reveals missiles ready to be launched? I've seen a picture of something like that a long while back, but couldn't remember the exact manufacturer/scale release.

Also, does the Bandai DX Chogokin Movie Super Parts Set come with the six thick white missiles with colored tips that attach to the wings? Again, there is not a picture of this on the official product page. For reference, I have linked the official product pages below (both first release and second release).

You're thinking of the Yamato armor. You can remove the outer portion of the front sections to reveal the micro missiles loaded inside. There is speculation that the front sections of the Bandai armor might have a similar level of detail, but they are glued shut and to my knowledge no one has been brave/crazy enough to risk destroying their armor to find out.

The Movie Super Strike Parts set does not come with armaments. You have to purchase the separate Missile Set. That set is just about as rare as the armor and, like the armor, generally goes for about twice the original retail price. The TV Super Parts set comes with six red-tipped RMS-1 missiles. The ones that come in the Missile Set have yellow tips.

Is there a particular reason for why the Movie Super Parts don't come with the color tipped missiles, but the TV Super Parts do?

You'll figure out the reason when you finally watch the movie.

It's a great and very pretty movie.

The original "DYRL" Missile set included all the missiles needed to equip a DYRL type VF-1.....

item_0000013118_1pKBdZng_01.jpg

The TV Super VF-1 requires the red-tipped RMS-1 missiles....

sdf-macross-episode-27-remastered-galaxy

...so instead of releasing a separate set of missiles for TV VF-1 use...they just included them with the super parts set...

..technically, the AMM-1 missiles used on TV VF-1's should have red markings....

-LvknXTpgb71EHSv69hAAprfy0z-x8KTdJk-qyNT

If you want correctly colored AMM-1 missiles you will have to settle for the smaller HM/HMR VF-1's....:drinks:

Or as an alternative...you can pick up Kitz Concept's 1/72 TV VF-1J....

They did get these right on the HMR's of all places.

Dang...forgot about that....yes, they got the AMM-1 missile tip color right starting with the original HM VF-1J release...

I wonder if anyone has busted out their paints and made TV-accurate AMM-1 missiles for their DX VF-1J?

...of course, they went back and screwed things up on their HMR DYRL GBP release......this time they went in the opposite direction and gave red-tipped missiles instead of yellow-tipped missiles....at least this time it was on a different missile type!

In addition to all of the great reasons mentioned above for why the Movie set doesn't include armaments, another that is often mentioned here is cold, hard profit for Bandai. Why include everything a collector needs in one set when you can break it down into multiple smaller sets and sell all of them separately at a premium price? They know we'll buy it all. Bandai has been doing this with Macross and many other lines for a long time. It's actually a pleasant surprise that the red-tipped RMS-1 missiles are included with the TV Super set. Maybe packaging and selling six small pieces of plastic separately is a bridge too far for them.
