Macross Collection Display Thread

Ugh, I hate that. Accidents happen and that's just part of life, but I can't stand that attitude people seem to get about figures and such. Yes, they are toys. They are also personal belongings that have value to us. Respecting a person's property is a part of respecting that person.

I'm sorry to hear that happened, bro. I hope any damage sustained was minimal.

Sorry to hear it, mate. That really sucks. Was he backing up to pull out a chair, or just careless? The collection is valuable, so would it be worth the money to get a Billy case with the doors from IKEA if it has to be in the dining room?

Miss Marie's little sisters (5 and 7) came over one time and broke half of the guns/rocket pods and limbs off my battletech minis, then got a hold of the VMF50 Minmay and started screwing around with her and the 1:3000 Macross (mock fighting) when I walked in. They got escorted out of the room post-haste. The entryway was blocked and the 'rents were informed of the value of what they were messing about with. At least they're respectful of the collection now, by looking at it over the desks and the couch, but they always ask if they can play with something, or say "I wish I had one of those"...little trolls.

This is one of the biggest reasons my collection is still in boxes till I get a locking glass shelf, that and the wife keeps either dropping the boxes or stacking stuff on them she just doesn't understand how much this stuff cost ug.!

This is what I am afraid of, lock the room if possible.

Pretty strong, but you can still remove or reapply the putty at any time. Remember to press down and twist alittle when setting it it.

Oops it's called quakehold here's the website

Edit: more detailed web page of product

cool had never heard of that stuff but as the biggest earthquake we get here is about a 3 we had no need for it. LOL! How well does it hold?

Some refer to it as earthquake putty. It's great stuff, and doesn't transfer permanently onto your toys. Just a few small beads well placed of the stuff will hold toys in place pretty well. When I had my displays out back in the day, they held up well through a couple 4 earthquakes.

Duhhh, just saw the link and the proper name for it. If you go to Home Depot or any of those places where you need a map, just ask for earthquake putty, and they should point you to the place. It's great for pictures and all sorts of stuff you don't want moving, like sculptures, vases, etc.

LOL! I wonder if I can get it here, like I said we do get an occassional quake 1-3 nothing more I my have to order some online.

I was going to say the directions they gave you aren't necessarily true. Everybody knows California gets earthquakes so they sell items to prepare for it. I highly doubt I could walk into Home Depot in Albuquerque and pick some of that up.

It's not just for earthquake protection. Like I said, many people use it for holding sculptures in place, keeping pictures hung on walls from tilting, as well as many other uses. It's pretty common stuff. They probaby even have it at Wal Mart.

Last night I stopped by the Modelcave, and they showed me an Airfix display stand made for 1:24 scale model airplanes for around $10.ooUS. I ordered one because it's a fairly large base in the shape of an arrow, sort of like the 1:144 stands. From the picture is looks like it's about 8"-10" tall...sooo...my thinking is that it could be used for 1/60 VF's in fighter and GERWALK. I don't know if it'll support 1:48's yet. Gotta wait until it comes in. Theres a flat spot on the top with a nub of sorts. Being styrene, an adapter should be able to be glued or screwed to it for the Yamato connectors. Theres also three and five arm bases for 1:72 aircraft...probably good for the 1:144 and the 1:72 models. Just a couple of ideas...

Yeah, I'm gonna have to do something. I don't ever want to relive that horror again.

Cheapest solution I have found is the Detolf stand from IKEA for about $80 a piece. It's not the greatest solution and there is no lock but at least they are inside of a nice display case. Doors come with a magnet for the top and bottom so the doors will stay closed. Also they do come with a way to secure the top to the wall in case of a quake but I am not sure how great that will work. Lucky for me I live in the middle of Western Canada. No earthquakes, Tornadoes, Hurricans, Flooding........just plain old boring.......probably explains some of my hobbies. Anyways...

I just bought 3 of these and they work great. Be aware that even though they don't look it, they weight in at about 80 lbs a piece. All that glass don't ya know.

Oh and if any of you are interested I will post pics. Just haven't gotten around to finalizing some of it yet. :)

Lol my girl knows how much my collection is worth, not only monetarily but to me as well. When times were tough she never once asked me if I would sell them. Also over time she has become more accepting of them and helps me come up with ideas to display them properly.

Just wanted to share my Macross F tatami room.

http://www.figure.fm...atami+Room.html

I'm more of a figure collector, but I have some interesting items in my collection such as original sketches and autographs and the Macross F pachinko machine!

...returns to lurking....

There's some stuff in there that I didn't even know existed B))

Is it wrong that I want to throw all of that stuff in a pile and jump in it like a pit of balls at the amusement park? ^_^

Dude, your collection is totally different than mine in every way and I love it. What an amazing display. Everything flows so well and you can tell how much thought you put into it.

WOW. A-MAAAAY-ZING!

Lots of great stuff. I think all those sketches are added bonus. You even have an Adam Hughes Sheryl. Did he know who she was when he drew her? Is he Macross fan?

I actually had a reference when I requested that sketch from him. I'm pretty sure he didn't know the series or character. But I think he did an awesome job. He's an amazing artist!

...and thank you everyone for the kind comments. I'm glad you like my collection room.
