BANDAI DX YF-19!!

Finally sold my original 10-year-old Yammie and just busted this guy open. Absolutley loving it, but it does feel somewhat thinner than the original animation model. Mine was fortunately QC issue free and transforming it back into fighter mode eliminated all the gaps. As many have mentioned, the wings do get a little floppy and I do fear for the longevity of the metal ball joints. (Not sure why Bandai doesn't use the same super-solid and durable metal ball joints they use in their Digivolving Spitits figures, which are essentially a metal ball with a PVC/POM socket.) Poseabilty is phenomenal as expected.

Out of curiosity, is there such a thing as a canon or default loadout configuration? This bird comes with so many bits and bobs that I'm spoiled for choice...

Congratulations on your 19! Even tho the left back fin was a minor irritatant, if you got urs QC free then you must be extra happy!

thats the awesome thing abt this release that it gives you so much options. But if ur asking abt the default config, I suspect the full set 19 release is to mimic the cover of ‘this is animation macross plus’ with all the loadouts laid out on the tarmac.

There isn’t one particular default configuration for me though.

If you're worried because the hips are really stiff, I highly recommend loosening up the socket by removing the leg and loosening the 2 screws on the socket inside slightly by steps until it feels more maneuverable.  This made mine go from feeling like I was going to break it if I moved it to being perfectly flexible yet pose-able.  I wouldn't recommend leaving it as is if you plan on moving those hips at all because the plastic around the hip on the leg looks like it would have broken on mine if I had forced it.

Thanks for the suggestion! Yeah, that did help some, though what I was originally worried about is the metal joints becoming loose over time, like what happened with the other DX Bandais.

Did anyone else's YF-19s come with gouges on the side of the waist? I was actually afraid that they were from my mishandling of the figure's waist joints and legs, but some of them seem to have been there already when I got the figure...

First time I've seen that. Though to be honest, that does look like something that would result from mishandling, especially when posing the legs and transforming it. But I think the amount of force needed to make those dents would have been significant.

Mine came with a little out the box. It was definitely not from mishandling.

Do you have any photos of when you opened the box initially? Where did you purchase yours from?

I'm in the process of returning one of these to Amazon.jp as it had the same type of  damage on it, along with the opposite leg that had been snapped off at the top of the intake. It was sold to me as new, but the box had been opened and the trays were in the wrong order.  All the evidence points to someone returning it as new after screwing up while trying to swing the legs into position.  I thought it was manufacturing defect as well until I started transformation on mine and the leg fell off.

Perhaps you were sold the that was returned to Amazon by @onnasake. That was returned as damaged so it shouldn't have been returned as New.

@onnasakecan provide more about it.

For giggles I checked onnasake's post on pg 88, and the break line is different, but the breakpoints are the same.

It hurts seeing a break like that, and I see breaks like that all the time on humans. :shok:

I may be keeping this thing even though its broken.  I was quoted $299 (more than I paid) to ship this thing back to japan!

Anybody have experience with returning things to amazon jp from the USA?  I mean they say they will refund the shipping costs but I doubt they will when it's more than the refund value!

Seller ought to be paying for shipping if you received a defective product.

Have you contacted Amazon? They may cover shipping and/or refund.

[edit] It's important to check if the item was shipped by Amazon, or if it was shipped by the seller.

I think you can file for refund through Amazon in either case, as you received a broken item.

Push the issue with Amazon if you have to, but they are awesome about backing up sales even if it wasn't fulfilled by them.  I bought a cell phone from a shady seller once, and when I went to activate it, it came up that the previous owner hadn't paid for it, thus was technically stolen.  I wasn't about to send back stolen goods for them to rip off someone else, so I took it to the police, got a case number and requested a refund which the seller of course wouldn't give me without the goods returned (got pretty po'd about it too).  But Amazon did... after a few phone calls, emails, and giving the seller a chance to do right.  I don't know how that seller is still on Amazon since they are still getting negative reviews for shady cell phones (among other things).  Amazon is pretty awful about keeping track of shady sellers, dispute resolution, and communications, but they do a great job of keeping customers happy otherwise.

Before you do anything, write to Bandai directly, and include pics of course.  Just be detailed and sincere.   They wrote me back right away, in English:

Hmm... I wonder if they'd send me a new head cannon.  Has anyone else asked for a new one?

This was my same argument before Ami-Ami banned me from their store.

Stores usually state their policy in this somewhere on the website. If you purchase from them, you're agreeing to their terms. If you then choose to violate their terms, say, by forcing a refund through PayPal, then you should view that as a nuclear option that will end your relationship.

That isn’t how I forced it at all.

Quoted by who?

There is literally nowhere on Earth where it could cost that much to send a toy back to Japan.  Are you on the International Space Station?

Shipping costs to the ISS are now down to a measly $1700/kg thanks to SpaceX, although I would think return shipping would be free since there's always room on the way back and it has to come down anyway.

Northern Virginia.  It was the UPS store. I agree it is crazy BS.

There were/are several factors. First, I just walked in to a UPS store, who of course hikes up the price.  Second, Amazon required DHL Worldwide Express for the return, no other method was acceptable to them. Third, they required it be insured for 25,000 jpy.  Fourth, the package is ever so slightly big enough to be classified for a larger size, and the default weight went up to 44lbs.

The UPS store's price was only slightly higher than DHL's website, which initially quoted me $279. I had the UPS store give me the weight and dimensions so I knew what to put in.

In the end, I used DHL's website to pre-pay for the shipment, along with a coupon for 25% off.  It still wasn't cheap and ran me just under $200, not including an automatic 20% upcharge in case I was lying to them on weight/size. This was the cheapest way I could find to send the package and still meet amazon's requirements, including asking a friend who works in logistics if he knew a different way, and calling DHL direct for some schmoozing.

I got an email from amazon saying they understood the shipping charge and would be refunding me the purchase price (including shipping it to me) along with a large portion of the return shipping. The rest of the return shipping would be on a amazon gift card, which will likely go to HMRs or Arcadia flight stands.

Wow..... From now on, I will consider very carefully when I buy any items from Amazon.jp.

It is what it is. Every online stores have their own policies.

I think my problem is that I am very complacent about returning items. Spoiled by Amazon US and other US online and physical store.

I have to be mindful of different policies when shopping outside of US.

Ive returned items on Amazon Japan through DHL and they paid for everything. Its weird how its done (DHL account and emailing some stuff) and its hard to explain but they took care of everything. You can contact DHL customer service after amazon authorizes the return, they give some instructions in that return email.
