Thank you. People around these parts get so damned defensive and passive aggressive whenever they come up against differing opinions; it's as if they feel personally slighted with an Earth-shattering insult if someone dares to not blindly follow the "perceived" prevailing view of a show or any aspect thereof... so dogmatic.

Interesting you should see it that way, because from what I'VE noticed, it's been the other way around. Those who liked it when it first premiered didn't tell others that they were worse fans for not liking it. They didn't insult those who disliked the episode. On the other hand, those who didn't like it stated, explicitly (defensively) and implicitly (passive-aggressively), that to like it made one less of a fan/male/person. My first encounter was someone or other mentioning in the episode thread about how this show just wasn't meant for fans who have been there from the beginning, implying that there's a sharp division between Delta fans and old-school fans, on top of the implication that those who "have been there from the beginning" are more legitimate fans. As an old-school fan who happened to like the episode, I took umbrage with that generalization.

And yes, it's an opinion, but opinions can be wrong. If your opinion is that the moon doesn't exist (props to jenius for edit), that's fine, but you're wrong. There's nothing saying that people shouldn't call you out for being wrong.

As the discussions have gone on, those same little jabs have continued with little to no pushback, and yet when I make the same kind of jab going the other way, the pushback has been enormous. When people were espousing sexist, elitist opinions about the episode, very few among this forum were bothering to correct them. When I finally called a comment out for being just that, in a glib, dismissive tone, look at how quickly and how many people come out to say, in your words, that fans who like the episode's J-pop/magical girl/etc. elements are dogmatic and blindly following a perceived prevailing view of a show.

My opinion was just an opinion. It's as if you feel personally slighted with an Earth-shattering insult if I dare to not blindly follow the "perceived" prevailing view of a show or any aspect thereof. So dogmatic.

All of that is to say, in the bluntest of terms, that those who dislike the magical girl, bishounen, J-pop aspects of the show have routinely resorted to sexist and elitist rationales to explain themselves, without realizing and/or acknowledging that they're doing so. You don't like magical girl or J-pop aspects? Fine. That's understandable. Being (presumably) white, male, middle-class American, you probably didn't grow up in a culture that normalized the existence and tropes of those elements. But see, you didn't stop there. You didn't just say that they're not your cup of tea. You made the mistake of assuming that the "premise of frilly dressed magical girls singing and dancing their way through a battlefield with prancing VF-31s as chaperons" is "silly, eye roll inducing."

The premise itself. The very idea of it is silly and eye roll inducing. Which is an untrue opinion, because it's based not on any inherent incompatibility but on an ASSUMPTION of incompatibility fostered by a limited view of the world.

But like Kanedas Bike opined and I've been trying to do, that's the last I'll say about that and get back on topic. Feel free to take the last public word on the matter.

Well I think we at least all agree that the DX VF-31 thread is no longer the place for such diversions. Also, I think you need an edit in your bit about the moon... I would suggest you go with "what color is the sun" but that's a joke because in the West it's orange or yellow and in the East it's red. Any who, I think everyone reading these opinions needs to infer a few more "in my opinion"s into what people write and don't try to sway people's opinions or disagree with them.

Now that we know Bandai will be showing off the mini mecha collection Delta models at Winter Wonderfest, do we presume there will be no DX talk there? I thought Bandai didn't do toys at Wonderfest and instead saved those reveals for Tamashii Nations events.

So not wanting sailormoon analogues in my mecha porn series is being sexist? But but but...i love the female pilots! Equal opportunity and abilities etc. etc. (Absolutely zero sarcasm here)

Hey wait, in fact not wanting females to be portrayed as lace wearing dancing and singing light monkeys is sexist?

Oh I see, i must first acknowledge that i'm a sexist before making an argument that involves a female in any manner or form. Say, isn't that in itself that rather...sexist? Pretty sure I don't want boy bands in my mecha porn either.

Equating the thing about the moon with opinions about some media content is such a stretch that it's like the biggest mind wedgie. I think you're doing the most assuming, and projecting here. I don't fit into your presumptuous profile(is this racism? heh heh heh), have been exposed (heh heh heh) to various media, and still think that it's a bit silly.

Because i wants me some gritty military action more than singing. Sometimes it's that simple. Doesn't mean that I won't watch it though. I've watched plenty of silly stuff (which I have admitted, prior to declaring whether my opinions will be sexist and/or elitist - all stamped and sighted by the Justice of Peace). If you think people are wrong just to fart out a negative opinion about some media they watch anyway, well I guess it's a big deal to you.

Sorry I'm just (in ozzie parlance) just taking the piss. Give me some sexy (sorry?) mecha and you won't believe how much I will endure.

Case in point the 31.

Ah yes the 31...so I was looking at the pictures again, particularly this one:

3PB3YLc.jpg?1

The waist looks a bit thin, I have the 30 with a similarly sized waist and that looks a tad fragile as well. Has anyone have any trouble with the 30 waist? I kept mine mostly in fighter mode because of it. Reason I'm asking is because of the two forearm guns I was hoping to have this in battroid mode in more dynamic poses.

I've had one of my 30's perpetually in Battroid mode since I got it. It's been fine.

Does it look like the 31 will need the braces the 30 needs, or was that only because of the waist twist gimmick?

My guess is unless Bandai modified that section for Battroid their very well could be an included brace. My 30 which has been posed in Battroid for months has never needed it, and *knocking on wood* still doesn't. Other people's mileage varied greatly.

Is the brace much of an eyesore? Also keep in mind that those were pics of rushed prototypes, as someone(s) observed some pages back.

People might also be interested in the recently announced Mecha Colle model kits. They're fixed fighter mode only, but the 3D models offer good looks at the potential panel line detail and perhaps some clues as to the transformation/articulation gimmicks.

As far as I can tell I'm the only one who had problems without the brace. Both of my 30's just don't hold together without the brace.

oh the irony, using a teenage harem porn game as an example of gritty military action.

shhhhhhhhh...

they don't need to know that

besides, Schwarzesmarken is fairly light on the usual muv-luv tropes (and the anime is surprisingly chaste given its source material)

Thanks for the replies guys, glad to know it's not as fragile as I thought. I didn't really like using the bracers, but now have less qualms about buying the 31 (Waiting for landing gear pics). For now I'll go transform my 30 and have em do sit ups.

Well I'm still going to buy at least 2 Delta 05's. - So I at least "kinda" like it. :p

As I've mentioned, the Delta 05 is maybe not technically my favourite scheme, but since it's the main character's and will likely be the most iconic valk of the series, it's the only sure buy for me. But I'm not sure if that is enough to add me to the list. :p

Maybe Delta 05 gets a cool skull emblem tattooed on its back later in the show. So it can be as cool as Delta 01 and 02. ^_^ Maybe he gets an Idolmaster paint-job with a gigantic Freya on it.

That leads me to the question why they don't have an Idolmaster paint-job from the get go?

Looks awesome to me!

considering the back and forth opinions on the walkure, idol paint jobs may be the point of no return for some..... :p

Macross F had some ranka and sheryl vf25's idol kits but i dont thk they were exactly sold out items...

Yeah, I already dislike the giant icons on the back. I didn't like it on Ozma's VF-25 and I don't like it here. But having pictures of the singers painted on them would just ruin it for my motivation to own the toy.

Anything is possible. Maybe tomorrow I will see the most awesome job ever done of painting one of the characters on the fighter, and I will change my mind. But for right now, to me, that kind of thing makes the Valkyries look like some kind of custom space van or something. It just isn't the kind of thing I want.

And since these things would probably cost me $200 minimum each, they better be exactly what I want.

I am pretty sure you are on the minority here. ;)

That's fine. I'm not saying I have the one true preference above all others. I'm just saying I don't like that kind of thing on MY valkyrie, and doing a poor job of explaining why.

So if there are versions with idol star paint jobs. Those aren't for me.

The ones with big symbols painted on the back. Meh. I'd prefer to not have those.

Valkyrie painted in basic colors? That's the kind of thing I prefer. So, if I bought one, one without the icons or idol singers would be top of my list. If one like that isn't made, well that's my problem and my problem alone.

As of now, It's a tie for me for Delta 3 (I like the islander vibe of Chuck, it's yellow, plus the Radome) and Delta 4 (because of Makina's on board), 1, 2, then 5

awesome another delta 03 and delta 04 pick. list updated.
