the actuator is pretty much finished...

found some some strong click joints online from a broken DX Chogokin Macross Quarter..

need them to be able to hold the weight of the two ships Daedalus and Prometheus.

also made the actuators slide-able so that the joints can be hidden

in cruiser mode....

Wow, look at that.

Why the f**k is the crappy DYRL one the popular one in Japan??? Cultural preference is boning us out of the superior design.

Mark my words, someone at Bandai or Arcadia will see this SDF-1 and say "Sh-t we need to make our own and sell it!!"

made some more progress on the Daedalus..

had to lengthen it a bit, and i added 2 cm :o

also changed the design of the back end of the keel to accommodate for the extra lenght

and also it looks alot better imo. ;)

Second me in! Even that "little" Daedalus is huge! That area circled is where a crane is supposed to come out of. I got all the translations back a few years ago. The bridge has a crane with cable spools under it, there is supposed to be cargo doors on the side that open, and then a crane supposedly slide out of the side, but it is never seen in the anime or drawn in books. - MT

ahh makes sense... always looked like it could slide and open up, but never could find any info on it.

thanks MT ^_^

Catching up after being away for a while… I had to check back in the history of this thread because I wasn't sure this was still a paper model project!

It's really amazing, and I'd never think it was made of paper after looking at the photos.

I'm curious to know how it holds its weight and whether or not it is very fragile? I'd imagine it would be easy to accidentally buckle the shape if you held it in the wrong place. Is there a lot of internal bracing necessary?

How much does the model weigh right now? How much did the paper craft book weigh before you started the model? It would be interesting to know the ratio of paper to other materials.

Thanks for sharing the details of this build! It's really great.

its definitely not fragile B))

the large pieces are reinforced on the inside, some parts are made with 3mm thick styrene sheets

the parts that needs to hold weight are heavily reinforced...

it sounds like resin when you knock on the parts ^_^

all surfaces have styrene layer/layers, cyano acrylate (super glue) adds ton of strength to both paper and styrene

it weighs roughly 2 kg / 4,4 pounds

maybe 300 grams/10.5 ounces of that is paper/cardboard

some parts have been made entirely out of styrene....

Progress Update!

begun work on the bridge of Daedalus :D

Awesome!! Take your time and get it right, nothing wrong with adding more PE parts. Can't wait to see the City! B))

Honestly you will have the SDF-1 of all envy when completed. :D
