gingaio
Hadn't been to F&S in years, and went a couple of times this past month to fill out my Transformers Masterpiece stuff. Some things have definitely changed and some not so much. Gone is the older Asian guy (Yoshi?), who was really cool to deal with. In one corner of the building is a booth with a bunch of new Transformers/Macross/Gundam stuff, but the shortish Asian guy I dealt with tonight was...ahem, unusual. I asked if he had more stock of the Masterpiece Skywarp/Thundercracker because the ones on his shelf had dinged-up boxes (there was a weird brown liquid on his Thundercracker box). I think he misunderstood me asking about more stock, and he said crankily, "After today, the prices on those two figures go up." I kind of laughed because I thought he was messing with me, but when I asked why the prices would go up after tonight, he sort of stumbled for a response and basically, said, "Just because." If this guy's sales tactic was to be a jerk, I'm not sure how he stays in business. So I find this other booth with a bunch of Transformers, and there was this youngish Asian guy who was sort of cool (or at least friendlier to deal with), but his Skywarp was higher than the previous seller's, so I asked if he could price-match. He said he had to check with this boss, who was wandering around somewhere, and after waiting a while, I said I'd be back. I kept walking and found this booth with a Caucasian woman on the other end of the building with a bunch of Japanese toys and her Skywarp was lower than both the previous sellers', so it was a done deal at that point. Of course, I'm the idiot for forgetting to make sure to hit all the booths first, but man, I remember when this place used to have really good deals. Now, sellers seem to be eager to match or exceed what you can get for this stuff online. That woman I bought from had some fair prices, though. Just remember, all prices go up after tonight. SuperHobo
LOL. I wonder who the unusual Asian dude was. Was he from tisinc99's booth? I buy a lot from the younger Asian dude he's cool to talk to and he can make some minor deals for you usually a pretty good booth to get all of the latest import Transformers and gundam models. I'm also sad that Yoshi is out of business as he was another cool guy to wheel and deal I wish I was there for his close out sale.
gingaio
Yeah, the thing I don't get about some of the vendors now is that they don't seem to realize or care that we, the buyers, can go on eBay and Google prices and such. I just bought a Masterpiece Thundercracker from overseas, that, including shipping, was lower than what the guy was asking for. And I'm pretty sure it won't include bonus brown liquid on the box. The only advantage the dealers have is impatient buyers like me who occasionally wouldn't mind paying a little extra to have the item sooner. Don't know which one is Tsinc99, but it's the booth that's stocked with the Gundam models/Fix figures, Transformers Masterpieces/reissues, and the Yamato Macross stuff. It's a pretty big booth, against the back wall, near the corer. Prices are a bit high to begin with, and now that I know what the seller's like, there's no way I'm ever going back there. SuperHobo
Yup that's definitely Tisinc99's booth they can be a bit rude and cold when it comes to selling stuff. They don't have any love for the stuff its all business with them. Sometimes I'd ask them how's business and they would reply "slow as usual" and when I looked around at their prices....oh I see why business slow almost everything they got is overpriced ( almost everything). I've only met one dude there who was cool and he's hardly there anymore maybe only at the warehouse, but is usually best to avoid their booth. gingaio
Good to have a name to that place; I'd definitely recommend that people avoid it. The prices are not competitive with what you can get online, and it's not like I even need the seller to be nice or anything. But if asking a simple question and expecting a simple answer without any extra attitude isn't possible, especially when a buyer is willing to drop hundreds of dollars at once, then that's just counterproductive and bad business sense. ae_productions
Man, I miss Frank and Son's. The nearest Comic or Toy shop to me is 3 hours away, one way. I asked the dude behind the counter if he had any Macross stuff. He never heard of it. I asked if he had any anime or Japanese toys. "Oh, yeah. We have lots of that." He walked me to a tiny corner where there was Hello Kitty and Pokemon. Uh... Lots of Wrestling toys. With lots and lots of dust on them. Luckily I travel sometimes for work, and I can explore other cities far, far away. But never as far as California. Miss Frank and Sons...
