Battlestar Galactica TOS remastered (fanwork)

I don't know if this is an official release or just a fan project but the effects look great.....though they seem to be using the MK2 canopy frame for the pilot POV instead of the original vipers frame. Still cool though hope it is a full release ala Star Trek TOS remastered.

*claps* Questions... one, is the materials of the original videos/tapes/films salvagable or even doable for a remake remastering?

Two, would TPTB even want to? its not like TNG-R is selling well, is it?

Nice.

BTW there's a TNG remastered?

Oh yes...there is...it's completely redone with new special effects like TOS was. I bought the teaser disc that came out with Farpoint and a couple of others...it's absolutely gorgeous.

Not quite like TOS was, there are a few newly done computer effects but most of it is cleaning up the composite artifacts/problems.

Oh well.

Nicely done, definitely a hybrid mk1-2 cockpit for the POV shots, sloppy.

I would just consider it sloppy mixing in the Mk.II VFX into the Mk.I VFX. In the end, Universal probably didn't see $$$ no matter how much he tried to lower the costs. Oh well.

Damn. I was hoping for seven seasons of dreary television accentuated by new and many examples of Galaxy class ship porn. Oh well...

Yeah. This could have been a fun time. When watching ST: TOS on Blu-ray, there are certain episodes that really benefit from the enhanced CGI, and it's nice to be able to flip back and forth between the old and new effects. Doing the same with Galactica: TOS would have been a blast. For me, this was the best tease—seeing the wing from Pegasus "helping" Apollo and his squadron. The suits at Universal must be numb.

+100, the new effects REALLY make a difference in that one.

What other TOS episodes stand out like that one did with the new effects?

Doomsday Machine in TOS really stood out to me with the new effects...

Yup yup, re-watched it several times with the "new" version. Already my fave ep, but now even better. It's THE episode to show people the difference.

Also works as a good example of the whole "new effects, but still old-school-looking" style they went for.

In addition to Doomsday Machine, there are a few that come to my mind:

  • Errand of Mercy
  • The Enterprise Incident
  • The Tholian Web

These episodes are notable to me because, like Doomsday Machine, they set up the Enterprise in a conflict situation while on patrol or between two points rather than while orbiting a planet. That gave more reason for nifty special effects.

  • 5 months later...

Did anyone else pick up the definative edition BD set? As cheese as the show was, I still love the lightbulb headed base commanders, centurian costumes, and Jayne Seymour with no bra. The I've only rewatched the pilot, but the remaster is great. There are two versions, regular (widescreen crop of Galactica & 1980] and Definative ķ widescreen + fullscreen versions of both series + movie). If you pick it up, go for the definative, two defferent groups worked on the remasters, with the widescreen crop coming out way over processed, and the fullscreen looking very cleam & pretty (still plenty of grain, defects, and effects problems, but vastly superior).
