Wait is that really how different the 1701 and 1701-A are?  I always thought they were more or less the same dimensions.  The A will always be my favorite Enterprise.

No no lol The left two are from the XL line, and the two on the right are from the standard size Eaglemoss line. 1701 and 1701-A should be identically sized.

Make the C a tad bit smaller and it should be in scale with the A pictured above.

I went to the industry toy fair last year in NYC.  Got a special pass and talked to several folks there.  Really cool.  Bandai was one of them and we discussed all sorts of things.  Also spoke to the guys who created the arcade here.  Really cool.  Wanted one then and want it now. :)

If you ever get a pass to an industry toy fair, I highly recommend going.  You get a peak of their upcoming releases for the new year.  No reveals as such.  All highly confidential (Hasbro had a walled off area you could only through with press passes!), and most of that is reserved for Asia, but still very cool.

Yeah it’s pretty cool and I might stop with just Pac-Man although others would look great together with it.

YJA and ebay with a promo and ebay bucks for the 2 1/100 F-14’s.  They look good with HMR.

Additions to the Marvel Legends collection.

I have a pretty vast MP collection containing official and third party, even MP combiners and Omega Supreme, I never intended on adding more to that collection or adding another scale, but I did too much reading and research and made some new purchases.

I accidentally went down the third party legends scale rabbit hole, now I think I need season 1 G1 Autobots in legends scale. I had no idea a lot of this engineering could be done at this scale, a lot of these are like little mini MP figures.

I have more on the way from two different sites, I bought 8 or 9 Autobots and have my eyes on even more.

Well, I guess it's time to make an introductory post now since it doesn't look like I'm getting the rest of my toys anytime soon (I was hoping to do them all at once).  Hello MWF! :hi:

I've been a Macross fan since being introduced to it by a fellow anime fan back in... '03.  And I loved Transformers in the 80's as a boy and had a Jetfire toy that I cherished.

Anyway, I've seen the original Macross TV series several times, own it on DVD, and it's one of my all time favorite shows ever.  I also loved Macross Plus.  So, when Amazon put the original TV eps up on Prime video, I of course had to watch it again with my 4yr old daughter who also loved it.

And one day about a month ago, I randomly thought to myself, "I wonder if there were any vintage Macross toys in Japan..."  Boy was I surprised to find currently manufactured toys for a 30yr old show.  So after a bit of research (thanks @jenius!!!) I bought one... then more... then a few more just to round out the collection.  But I did try to be economical and only got the bare essentials ;).  I started with a 1/60 Vf-1S Skull Leader with fast packs cuz Roy Focker is focking awesome and my favorite:

2040909043_IMG_20190105_0054111.thumb.jpg.98f94c927ea9b396f8ba9939a2c4dcfb.jpg

I like the price, durability, and detail of the HMR line, so I picked up Max and Milia at first:

396819580_IMG_20190106_2330361.thumb.jpg.80b3428416587106664152c4050776b0.jpg

You'll might notice a box in the background from Kitzconcepts.  I'm not into figurines, but if I was going to collect Macross toys, I had to have Lynn Minmei:

1407341484_IMG_20181230_1545111.thumb.jpg.35651ea41d85b2ef7d883ef41dda3316.jpg

I then noticed a distinct lack of Kakizaki's valk in the HMR line until I realized that he never had a custom valk in the TV show, just a bog standard brown VF-1A, so I picked up an HMR of that.  Edit: I read that wrong somewhere, but the HMR brownie was close enough for me - maybe I'll paint it appropriately someday.  I also found out about FEXT which is so much better (and cheaper) than any of the other GBP armor out there (despite being non-cannon), so now Kakizaki is appropriately armed to the teeth:

577946726_IMG_20190110_2231141.thumb.jpg.09e01564ab8f6602fd36fb2498d2bab2.jpg

I quickly realized that I needed some organization of extra bits and bobs, so I picked up a Plano tackle box.  I didn't even realize it was in sortuva Macross Blue until I got it home:

30814277_IMG_20190106_0117121.thumb.jpg.a2a1ac14243f5b1625c39587654b047f.jpg

This was all expensive enough to get me in serious trouble with the wife, but after seeing reviews of Bandai's DX YF-19 full set (probably my favorite valk second to Roy's) I had to have one.  Unfortunately, the Japanese seller waited 3 weeks to ship it whereupon it has sat at their local post office for another week with no further updates.  I hope it gets here one day.  Anyway, if I have a YF-19, I had to get a 21 as well... but decent 1/60 21s are WAY too expensive.  So, despite bad reviews, I picked up a 1/72 Yamato V2 for a very decent price.  I see why the reviews are so bad, it is a major PITA to transform or do anything with!

477557606_IMG_20190107_2356281.thumb.jpg.bf711ebd86bf20dddfe1e7beb19793f9.jpg

Is this post getting too long?  Sorry, I went a little crazy buying these things.  I also wanted to have at least 1 enemy, but I didn't wanna spend much on it, so I picked up a Revoltech Regult:

751022781_IMG_20190117_2125041.thumb.jpg.cc83d0bbf4c103c4ef8f0374304816ab.jpg

I really wanted a large SDF-1 model, but was disappointed with my options, most of which were movie versions.  The only one I was interested in was the original Matchbox toy, but they were going for stupid money or broken, badly used, etc.  But after seeing some papercraft projects like @Nyankodevice's beautiful models I was inspired to pick up the book.  It's also stuck in Japan, so in the meantime, this little guy will have to suffice:

111126154_IMG_20190117_2125271.thumb.jpg.135eccfd16255d77373b9be7a77c7116.jpg

I'm still waiting on an HMR VF-1J Hikaru, but I did get some FEXT OWL armor for him:

564647525_IMG_20190117_2125361.thumb.jpg.7ae3fc935dae9b8d436e8c1de25550de.jpg

I'm also waiting on a Robot Spirits Queadluun Rare (the gray one) to ship from Japan.  I wanted Miria's Q-Rau, but it's a bit hard to find and expensive when you do.  And the Q-Rare is better with the shoulder cannon and such, so I figured I'd just fudge it and paint it in the Miria scheme.  I'm not picky.

And, other than some misc display bases, that's about it for now.  I've got big plans for the papercraft project and I'd like to carefully attempt to add some lighting to my VF-1S skull, so look for my posts about those later.  Cheers all, and thanks for having me! :yahoo: Now let's see how the site handles this insanely large post...

Btw, you can buy a YF-21 1/60 for a decent price if you keep an eye on Yahoo Japan Auctions through a proxy buying site like FromJapan or Buyee.

Expect to tack on around $60-$100 in fees and shipping costs, but if you keep an eye out you can grab one for ~$200-$250 (before fees+shipping). One just sold a couple days back for ¥24,840.

Alternatively, keep an eye on the for-sale/trade forum here.

Also if you get a chance, check out the HMR Regult and/or Glaug. They're both very good figures.

Welcome to MWF, @Pontus.

In one month, you are already well on your way to amassing a Macross toy collection.

Valkyries are very addictive!  I joined MWF and started collecting Macross toys about 10 months ago... and let's just say that $12K can fly by surprisingly quickly when you have no self-control. *sigh*

Kiss your paycheck good-bye.  :yahoo:

Always great to hear about fellow Macross fans rediscover their love for one of the best anime series ever made. And it’s also nice and expensive to realize all the products made for it.

Welcome and you have a great start at your collection already. Thanks for sharing!

Haha, I knew someone was going to call me out on that one.  I suppose I could paint it.  But there was no HMR Kakizaki, I didn't want to mix in Toynami with my HMR, and anything else was too expensive and didn't match scale.  I'm not picky.  It's Kakizaki enough for me.  I wish there were more Kakizaki valks, and they should each and every one come with a tiny, very large steak complete with cutting board, even if not to scale, just like an inch long.

That's quiet humble collection to start off in this thread @Pontus.

I can't show you or anyone else in this thread on my collection as I still need a shelf to display it all (still in boxes and opened). :p

If you want a 1/60 Q-Rau in Milia's colours, proxies may have them for sale (as there are no guarantees that you will get one), just be ready to possibly pay a bit more for S&H to where you are .

Make sure that you have enough funds to cover your Macross collecting habits as us members do know too well, where all going down the rabbit hole deeper and deeper.. ^_^

Wow I had forgotten just how similar they were, right down to the shade of brown. I'm so used to seeing the Yamato version, with the lighter beige/cream color for Kakizaki and a noticeably darker brown for the, er, brownies. They should've used the Alaska base green variant for Kakizaki. Whether he deserves it or not, he does get a hero unit.

That's the one we're all missing. I ended up building a custom one from a Wave kit. Not really into going the Toynami route

You can make a custom HMR VF-1A TV Kakizaki by using a VF-1A CF and VF-1J Hikaru.

Yeah, I bought the recent Roy and Hikaru Rick releases because they were cheap and I was curious, but they both broke immediately with careful handling.  I had to fix one with a metal pin just to keep it together.  I don't know how they even assemble them without breaking them.  Cheap POS.  But, that said... I pose them everyday at work, and for $35 (ok, they're only really worth $20), they aren't totally horrible for a toy you don't care much about, don't mind other people handling (it's funny to watch them freak out when it falls apart on them) and can actually play with.  And you don't have to wait for them to ship internationally!

Courtesy of 505thAirborne, I finally... FINALLY... got my grail!

By the way: what was so special about the two foam bits under the cockpit that they deserved their own big piece of paper in the box? Also the canopy has no rainbow effect; was there a second production run that didn’t have it?

Not exactly a purchase, but this showed up today. Apparently I won it during one of the 2018 gunpla campaigns.

Which is honestly weird, since I the prizes I signed up for were different ones. But I'm not complaining, this is still a free shiny kit.

Grats on the 11B! She's a fine bird.

Yeah there was more than one run of the 11B for sure. I have two of them and only one has a rainbow canopy.
