Arcadia YF-19 coming in 2014

i guess that was short lived

Yep, short lived. I mean all it took was the pic of that doll and the receiver and the stickered up Yamato VF-19S.

Anyways back on topic. I am also glad that I have 2 of both the Bandai and the Arcadia, I still think I prefer the Arcadia though as a toy. They both have issues though and things that can be nit picked to death over, but they do the job just fine for most of us if you are in one camp or the other. I'm in both btw, although I was strictly Yamato when the V1 Bandai 25 series was being released. I could not even fathom buying those toys. They looked very sad and just wrong on so many levels but that is what you get when Mr Gundam was working on the toy line. It's like Bandai was trying to punish the Macross fans with those toys for not putting Gundam first .

It's almost like if Bandai had Mr.K and Mr.k had Bandai money he could make the perfect 19. I am pretty sure Bandai has the buying power to make these come in at a lower mfg cost over Arcadia with how much they run through the Chinese mfg plants because they have licenses for everything under the sun and toy in all ranges from low end all the way up to the top level.

On the other hand if Arcadia had Bandai money and lower mfg cost we would also be in valk heaven, Arcadia would prob be in a position to sponsor a show and then get some exclusive rights to new valk designs.

I think I would prefer the Arcadia scenario though, because at least then they would actually mold the parts in the right color instead of making the parts in the complete opposite color and then painting the part the right color. We would also benefit from not having to freak out on the pre-order and lose out on sleep over it. Arcadia could use a packaging specialists though with all the big boxes, and could use a good graphic designer to up their game on the box art . Sigh, we can all dream right?

All of my valks are boxed up for a move. It should be pretty easy. Gently extend the wing outward to expose the metal arm. Pad the pliers with a rag or paper towel to save the metal from getting marred. Place the pliers over the rivot making sure that when applying pressure the pliers will only make contact with the rivot on the top and bottom. Squeeze.start off lightly and go from there. Be careful, and mindful of how much pressure you are exerting, and make sure the figure is supported. I could take pics in a few weeks if needed, but common sense should go a long way in trying this on your own.

Hi Yeti. How exactly do you have the pliers only make contact with the rivet and not touch the metal bar itself?

Use a good needle-nose. The rivet is raised on both sides.

So this happened to mine over the weekend....

Very upset, but more so at Arcadia for using such small fragile diecast for these parts.

I've had to glue the metal bars back into a fixed pose so the wing is now attached again, but it'l only ever see fighter or gerwalk mode now, which isn't so bad as I had planned on having this in fighter anyway - I prefer the Bandai VF-19Adv in battroid over the Arcadia YF-19.

Ahh well...

you guessed correctly. I had taken a break from weathering it on the dinner table, but my little son decided to be climb happy around the dinner table, so before he could get to it I decided to move it into the study and away from his curious little hands.

I foolishly put it on the shelf completely unbalanced and with the wings still extended. I leave the study and close the door sit down on the sofa and hear a crash.... It had dropped from less than half a metre, and the wing was bent at the joint. I gave it a little bent to see if I could straight it out, and snap.... wing broken.... :(

My wife says I break all my new toys that I get almost straight away, and she's not half wrong... :p

I've had my 2 YF-19s in the boxes for over a year and just recently took them out because of the VF-19Adv. Can't believe I broke it so soon too. Well at least I did get to transform it once which was when I first received it from HLJ last year.

It's okay. I managed to glue it back to the position it needs to be in for standard fighter mode. I clamped it for 24 hours and checked it today. Was pretty solid. It just means it can never move again as there is no more pivot action between the 2 metal arms.

I was very upset when it happened, but now it's not so bad since the plan was always to display in fighter mode only.

I had 2nd thoughts to not put my 2nd up for sale here (to fund my VF-0A pre order), but put alot of effort into weather this one, and need that little bit extra money.

Die cast can be very weak too, I had a VF-4 arm just fall in to my lap with no pressure applied. Rumor is that sometimes die cast is weak because there could be deformities or bubbles in side making it structurally weak. Man sad to see this :(

Well, it's the fact that the diecast parts are small and not very abundant in the new toys. The toys I had growing up were full on diecast like some of the Soul of Chogokin toys are today. I mean my first Voltron as a Kid was super solid, you could knock someone out if you were not careful while whooshing it around lol.

Ouch that really sucks. Is the YF-19 wing arm thinner than the VF-19Advance's?

Not sure what I could do.

seeing how handy you are with your 3D printer I thought it would be possible to print up a replacement mechanism for the wing joint.. Of course I don't know how elaborate the part actually is and whether or not its possible to print something like that..

I sure could print a replacement arm, but it wouldn't be made of metal. Has anyone taken apart the wing and removed the metal arm? Any pictures of it? I could put something on shapeways and you could order it in metal. Not sure how well their metal will work for a piece like this, but I would happily try.

I don't have a broken yf19, but if someone came up with a simple plastic hinge that could replace the metal swing bars and eliminated the high speed mode, I would seriously be interested.

In progress photo of the beautification my damaged Arcadia YF-19.

post-7871-0-09291500-1440459391_thumb.jpg

This was after applying the 8 NO STEP stickers to the broken wing.

Currently have 4 more DANGER stickers left to add to the manuvering thrust verniers on the legs and maybe some little markings on the under side.

I've added all the markings detailed in the Arcadia manual, so need to find some high quality Hasegawa photos of 1:48 and 1:72 YF-19.

Then a flat clear coat once the weather is warmer and it'll be COMPLETE!. :D

It does for the most part. I did a hybrid, cross-referencing both the master file and the Hasegawa sheet for mine.

Interesting. I just realized that in the absence of any actual detail in the CG model for the VF-19 Advance, Bandai ended up duplcating the panel and detail from the Hasegawa. Aside from the labels and warnings, the panel lines and even the diamond markings are pretty much identical.

Those have been up for a short while now. I was originally dead set on getting an Arcadia YF-19 when I first decided to get into collecting about a year ago, but after getting the Bandai VF-19 Advance, I have now almost completely lost all interest (especially at these prices still).

I know the VF-19 isn't the YF-19 and it's a Frontier valk, SMS etc. etc.... But regardless it has more than satisfied my Isamu 19 itch. Am I the only one? Or do others feel the same way? For those that don't, is the Arcadia really still worth the pick-up when considering the cost?
