Live-action Robotech Movie

That the resultant film will be terrible is a 100% guarantee; I'll absolutely see it, IF it ever actually gets made but I sure as hell am not paying theater (aka highway robbery) prices for it. But that's always the rub, the people that "adapt" these things never understand the base, or care to. Most likely scenario is that we'll get a gruff white american male soldier american pilot. Who is an american. Who will proceed to blow up a bunch of evil faceless aliens and win over his CO and/or Katy Perry analogue before stopping the evil aliens' attempts to glass Earth in some gross parody of mechanical design, which aside from design is guaranteed to be in the blandest shade of gray imaginable.

Funny thing is I think you could get pretty far by just taking a decommissioned F-14 and painting it white with red stripes.

I don't think it's realistic to expect a Mospeada movie, they're going to want to start at the beginning of the story, not the 3rd part, and they're going to want ti do Macross story elements that they don't own.

This movie has clusterfrakk written all over it.

I don't think it matters where they start. This movie (if it even gets made) will essentially be a franchise reboot. They can start wherever they feel like.

Besides, to the casual fan who hasn't watched RT in over 15 years, their reaction will be pretty much "wow, this has everything I remember", while the diehards will just sit quietly as they realize that the movie absolutely shits all over their precious 30+ year cartoon.

I think we've already discussed this many times before, but I'll just repeat that tans can be guaranteed that if this live action Robotech movie does actually get made, it will look nothing like Macross. For two reasons:

Hollywood ALWAYS does their own thing with whatever rights they purchase, very often to the point where the resultant film can be recognized as the original work in name only

The original Macross is far too old in technology and technique for modern audiences. Expect the look of the film to be something more along the lines of Bayformers/GI Joe/Avatar.

The people behind this film have already publically stated the production design will not follow anything from the existing IP because they are ignoring it all. Which is kinda good for us Macross fans, because once people see the film we won't have to suffer "Oh, is that like Robotech" when we talk about Macross because no one will ever mistake the two for each other :)

^^-- What HE said…@Mr. March.

Avg. 'Joe' movie-goer:
"..So, ummm….THAT Brad Pitt movie was THEE "World War Z"??...that was single-handedly responsible for re-inventing and reviving the Zombie genre? ...Including "28 Days", "The Walking Dead" and all the rest, eh?…Hmmm, hard to believe…"

Discerning/Informed Fan:
"..Ahhh--No. No, it wasn't…not by a billion-gagillion miles, it wasn't.
...In THREE words: 1) Hollyweird…and, 2) Trust ME!…
...Go to the original source material--the book; it will make MOAR sense than if I stood here and tried to explain any further.."

I agree with this. If they change things up, it will distance it from Macross, and the maybe robotech will die... I'm not serious of course, but I mention Macross, to most people, and they recognize it once I bring up robotech. I then give them all the Macross videos I have, hoping that they'll see that Macross is so much better, which usually ends up true.

My cast XD

Rick Hunter: Dakota Goyo

Roy Fokker: Channing Tatum

Lisa Hayes: Melissa Holroyod

Lynn Minmai: Marie Iitoyo

Wow, that'd kind of suck.

Clearly, Ron Jeremy needs to be Roy.

Figured Michael Bay himself would play Roy.......Megan Fox should play Lisa Hayes. Meg isn't a porn star yet, but I've said before that her acting abilities would make her a shoe in for porn or highschool drama class.

We used to have this casting disccussion way, way back in high school. The only casting choices I remember were Arnold Schwarzenegger as Lynn Minmay and Emmanuel Lewis as Rick Hunter. Yeah, it was a long time ago...

A Rainbow Dash that turned into a working AR-15 would be the greatest thing ever and I would give anything to have one. (Actually, a Vinyl Scratch that turned into a SCAR 17 would be better, but you get the idea).

Actually, if you do a #Robotech search on Twitter, that image is showing up a lot on the new (old rehashed) articles.

Here's one.

And a variant.

I guess it's better than using Macross Zero images, which I've seen a lot of too.

There should be more Valks with painted shark teeth on them, looked pretty badass on phantoms and tomcats.
