They'd definitely be cheaper, but you might have to do a lot more work to get a Figma into that shape, since they're usually modeled with a lot more clothing that you'd have to remove, and you might not get a useable body underneath. Figmas in simple bodysuits are pretty hard to find. Those Votoms figures are pretty much ready made to convert into Meltrans, since there's really nothing significant to change.
