Saw the film yesterday. Went to the matinee to keep down on the crowds but all the old coots (me included) showed up anyway... Either the evening showings are completely full or it is just a reflection of the audience for this movie.

On to the short review. A very good film, but not great. It plods along after a certain point, which keeps it from getting an A+ review from me, but certainly a B+ to an A. All of the performances in the movie are first class but as usual a special award goes to Daniel Day Lewis' portrayal of Lincoln, the guy is simply the best actor alive today. Sally Field did an excellent job as Mary Todd Lincoln as well. Finally another special mention for Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens - the man usually gets action roles that require little acting talent, this showcased just how good of an actor he really is.

This is going to be in my Blu-ray collection when it comes out.

Kennedy also took Lincoln's famous line that "the nation cannot endure half slave and half free" and updated it during his debate with Nixon to "the world cannot endure half slave and half free", a reference to the XXth century slavery behind the Iron Curtain. Sadly, to my mind the parallels ended just about there.

In any event, as a huge Lincoln fan, I am looking forward to watching this film and almost scared that it won't live up to expectations.
