It's twice as Trek as the last Trek movie, had goosebumps throughout and I say this as one who isn't a TOS fan. Would like to see more, was pretty inspired at the end of the movie. It may have been the IMAX though . The new girl is insanely hot. WTB a hot toys fig. Wow you saw it already? Anyway the key words in your post are "one who isn't a TOS fan." That's precisely the audience that Abram's Trek is designed to capture, for better or for worse. Meanwhile, I must find my TNG uniform-shirt for the U.S. premiere... If you want to talk about it's place in canon then the Kelvin incident fits in before TOS and after Capt. Archer leaving (GASP) Enterprise and the only TV series that is part of the move timeline. I might go see Into Darkness out of curiousity but my expectations are low to say the least. You're talking about a universe where time travel is possible, and you don't use it to save a planet that blows up for some ridiculous reason? He said that as a casual film-goer, he really enjoyed the film. However, he could definitely see how the film would turn off or upset long-time Trek fans. I gave him a link to the spoilers, and he pretty much confirmed that they were accurate. Yeah . . . after getting confirmation that the spoilers are accurate, I ain't paying to see magic healing blood inserted into a dead Tribble and then used to ressurect Captain Kirk after they pull a blatant rip-off/twist switch of Wrath of Khan. Major Focker Posted May 13, 2013 Share Posted May 13, 2013 i haven't read any spoilers prior to watching but i still saw that coming a mile a away. yet, i still enjoyed the movie. i'm not a Trek fan though, so i may be more forgiving of plot devices, save those from way out left field. this one though was foreshadowed, the logic explained, and a demonstration given very early. so i gave it a fair shake. I think the last time I did that was for the original run of Star Wars:A New Hope. If I remember correctly, it took us 3 nights before we actually got into the theater. And this is the old time definition of movie theater, meaning only the one screen (no multiplex). And, of course the smaller theater was the one that had it booked. areaseven Posted May 15, 2013 Share Posted May 15, 2013 You know, Into Darkness is not as good as the previous Star Trek film, but it's one hell of a ride. Without giving away a lot of spoilers, I have to say that pays a lot of homages to a certain TOS episode and a certain TOS movie. And as expected with a Jim Abrams production, it's got balls-out action and a loud orchestral score to go with it. Excellent performance by Benedict Cumberbatch, as he delivered beyond the monologues he gave on the trailers. It's also great to see the great Frank Murphy back in the big screen. Because the best things we can remember come from the heydays of our youth. In any case, slightly jealous with this girl I've been seeing. She and a friend went to L.A. yesterday to attend what I'm guessing was some sort of porn/modeling job expo recruiting new talent, and on the way they stumbled upon the red carpet premiere of the Star Trek movie, complete with William Shatner and the current cast of Enterprise crew. As she puts it: "ZOMG I WAS LIKE-10 FEET FROM CHRIS F**KING PINE AND HE'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOT!!!!!!!!11111" Girls have all the luck man...
