  1. 1. If you lived in Japan would you pre-order a VF-4?

    • I would pre-order but I'm not sure I can afford it.
    • Yes I would pre-order, but I would only buy it if it was under $300 (about 24000円).
    • I would pre-order it and buy it at any price.
    • I would pre-order it just to bump the numbers, but won't actually buy it.

You ever get the feeling that your just being put on permanent hold? Well that's the feeling I got right now. I am a patient person have waited patiently for issues to be resolved plenty in the past, but sometimes something just don't feel right no matter what I'm told. That's How I feel about this. I don't know why maybe because I went outside of my HLJ comfort zone, or maybe it's my spidey senses. I hope I'm wrong.

By the way, are all the ones with problem ordered from NY?

Hey Graham...did you know about this take over? If it is their swansong then yes they went out with a bang...now questions is.. does Arcadia plan on revisiting the valks or even the 1/48 or does that make them antique and more collectible now that they will never be remade =(

Why is that a bad thing. Yamato responded to them that they're attempting to make parts but they need time to produce them. Seems like a decent response overall.

Well I guess my spidie senses weren't to far off. Now I know why I felt like I was getting the "Please hold and a member of our team will be with you shortly" for hours feelings.

You really think they care about making a few parts now?

I was pretty worry myself but my VF-4 from NY came intact and wasn't missing anything.

But their packing is amazing (lucky) My valk was wrap up in 1/4 inch bubble sheet, and put inside a custom made box that has no solid side walls on the left and right side and and some Japanese news papers. But other than the strange fish and soil sauce smell on the outer custom box, the yamato box inside was almost perfect. And the valk inside too, still haven't transform it yet, too scared. Got it pretty quick too, 5 days by ems.

maybe yamato has a set date planned out after their offical release date of the VF-4G and is waiting to see how many request of replacement parts or missing parts by that particular date before finalizing the part and amount of replacement parts that needs to be remake.

Then there's also the chances of another full production run all together, and if they are going to do that or is waiting for someone to decide if they should do that, then you might have to wait longer for replacement parts since they might do it all together to save cost?

I hope so, as I spent $600 bucks on VF-4's but feel like I only Have $300 worth. It sucks they are taking so long though because I already have mine disassembled waiting for a new part. It's been hanging out on my hobby mat since Jan.

Am i missing something? Didn't Yamato just say they were done? Sold, closing thier doors.

Nope, just going thru some apparent name change and/or re-branding. Check the "Arcadia" thread for all the updates and theories.

And the Interesting Times at Yamato thread.

Buy it, i think the chance of missing parts is relatively low.

I agree, I would not hold out on buying this bird. I have hope that Maybe someone with the Shapeways know-how can help use all out someday. Until then I still love my VF-4.

As great a toy as the VF-4 is, I've been growing increasingly dissatisfied with its appearance out of the box. The VF-X color scheme is just so godawful boring. Grey and baby blue? Who thought up that color combination? The nasty seam line across the nosecone was also a major eyesore. Not to mention mine had some gashes in it thanks to the Yamato factory worker being a bit too zealous with his plastic cutter.

So I decided to try customizing mine into the FB2012 colors. I was pretty reluctant at first, as I possess only some basic modeling skills, and I was afraid of ruining a $300 valkyrie. But my dissatisfaction got the better of me, and I decided to go for it.

Anyway, I just repainted a few parts, took a bunch of decals off a VF-1 kit, added a little weathering, and gave it a flat finish. And of course I sanded the nose and filled in the gashes.

Thanks to everyone who posted customizing tips and their kickass customs. :)

any ideas about a kinda-loosening/floppy-ish right arm (feels like it's the shoulder ball-joint)? I've got it tucked into the 1/2 Gerwalk mode so it won't catch my eye for now.

With the ending of the "Yamato" era, here is my salute to Yamato. Thank you for making all my wishes come true, especially the VF-4G.

After doing my FB 2012 custom, here is my interpretation of the "Focker Scheme". I didn't like the VF-1 black lines on the VF-4, it didn't seem to flow with the curves of the VF-4. So I took some cue from the Jolly Roger and Ghost Rider VF-4G scheme, and came up with my own. Hope you guys like it. Also, I have painted my nose cone slightly different this time, so that it is 100% scratch free.

That makes my VF-4G look like trash. Looks really good!

I very much like how you did the "chest stripes". My only concern is the missiles---I can't imagine that anyone ever, of any movie/show/anime, would get a special set of missiles custom-painted to match their plane.

Maybe the missiles are some kind of reaction weaponry.

I really like the color scheme but all the little stickers don't do it for me, the plane looks just too twitchy. Too much stuff going on.

But nonetheless I like it. Great job!

You should really do a DYRL? squad with Hikaru, Kakizaki and Max next. ^_^

Thanks for the comment, and I agree with you. I didn't paint them intially, but in the end decided to, because:

I was trying to keep the toys somewhat robust, so that I can still play with it like a toy. Therefore, there are areas that I don't want to paint over, because it will scratch up in transformation, (like the pale red on the upper and lower leg). This must have been my biggest challenge in pulling off the black/yellow focker scheme.

So in the end I have to paint the missle head to bring out the yellow, use black "no step and caution" decals to re-enforce the black. Lastly, the few red decals here and there are to balance out the red, so that it is not concentrated in one spot in fighter or battriod mode.
