I'm already beginning to salivate at the prospect of 1/1000 kits of all the EDF ships, Andromeda and Borodino most of all.. attachicon.gifdrool.gif

Oh yeah!! Also an updated Cosmo Tiger II.

Hope this happens. :D

Personally, this is one thing I really don't see happening. I would expect to see the Hayabusa still as the main aerospace superiority fighter, with the CT2 design, if used, to be in the specialised role of torpedo bomber or heavy strike (the Hayabusa's limited armament capacity being a limiter of its role). If anything, it could be used to succeed the Cosmo Zero, which does have a heavy attack capability. I fully expect Yamato to retain her Zeros and Hayabusas though.

It would be neat if the series started with the fighter types from 2199, only to have the Hayabusa prove itself inadequate to the threat presented in the new series, prompting the introduction of a new Space Superiority Fighter (Cosmo Tiger II) to replace it over the last third of the season.

It would. I'm also hoping for a series with just as many surprises for old fans as 2199 had.

Yeah same here. It's already been like 2 years since the first season ended.

It doesn't work that quickly though. No decisions would likely even have been made until numbers came in on the sales of Ark of the Stars. If how long it took for the first episode to get out from when it was written (three and a half years) is anything to go by, it could be a while before anything is screened.. As Tim said to me after people started talking about the possibility of this after Ark of the Stars' sales figures came out, it takes time to find backers, hire production staff, schedule the voice cast (who may all be busy with other projects), write scripts, and so forth. While it shouldn't take quite as long to get that all set up this time, the scheduling side of things may take a while to fall into place.

Only 8 months since Journey Of The Celestrial Ark hit theatres.

And barely 2 months since Ark's home video release. The sales for those would have more than likely been a go/no-go initial funding for the project, the same as the live-action movie was for 2199.

Ark took over a year to make from when it was announced, production was only finished a few days before it premiered, and the cinematic release had serious quality issues to the point where large numbers of frames were re-done right from the layout stage for the home video release in May.

I'd like to see them take their time, get the production done with good quality in the first place. Hopefully they'll go back to the quarterly release schedule and not try and rush it through (this would mean delaying the TV broadcast by a couple of months so the cinematic releases don't have to be accelerated and as a result the quality suffer.

YES!

YES AGAIN!

O, come on now. The Andromeda is boss, but you've gotta admit that this one is pretty cool too.

attachicon.gifSBB-30 EDFS PEGASUS.jpg

That IS awesome. However to be honest, although I love the original design, I did think the Andromeda wasn't taken as far as it should have been, what with more guns, ship kibble, etc. I have a feeling that when and IF a new Andromeda is released, they'll take the classic design and "finish" it the way it should've been from the original series. Then the Andromeda might easily take the title of "my favorite capital ship" from the Star Trek Galaxy class. Just my opinion....

Yeah, I too thought Andromeda was a little undergunned for being the supposed ultimate SpaceBattleship. It deffinately needs AA protection at the very least.

Andromeda also needs more capability to bring all of its firepower to bear on a target. Broadsides are made nearly impossible by the atmospheric wings blocking the rear turrets, countermeasure missiles like Yamato had, and wave motion shields. Maybe lay out the turrets like Arizona with turrets on the side (and maybe even a ventral turret?).

At the very least some AA guns, and another gun battery up front. Also a darker hull color would be nice, not that odd blue/white motif they had; maybe a two tone deal like the Yamato's? What were the designers thinking?

Plus, there's no guarantees that any ship will have wave-motion guns. Shock horror, Earth just might abide by the Treaty of Iscandar. Not that it's any sign of being canon, but an interesting thing noted about the Yamato cellphone game in Japan is that campaigns include ships. This includes the EDF Battlecarrier with no wave-motion gun.

I know, right? I never could get over how they had no real AA guns. Darker hull color? Sounds good to me.

No wave motion guns? Screw that noise. There had better be wave motion guns, or I'm going to be pissed off.

I will absolutely boycott this series if they go that route. I will say that I like the idea of an EDF that's become complacent and arrogant in their victory from extinction, to the point where they violate the treaty with Starsha (that the EDF never personally made with her anyway) so that they could build an armada of powerful warships. That would open up some good debate/conversation about how the EDF is conducting itself and whether they should or shouldn't be doing what they do. Let's go, Yamato 2!

Well, actually they did. With Serizawa almost certainly in jail for his role in the attempted mutiny aboard Yamato, Okita would be the ranking UNCF officer (since Todo is administrative, not military), and would have been acting as Earth's legal diplomatic representative as well. To that end, he would almost certainly have been in a position to negotiate anything necessary to secure the Cosmo Reverse System.

In any case, there are other ways to get around it. For instance, if the guns are actually built but sealed to honour the treaty, being unsealed only as a last resort, when it's seen as inevitable that Gatlantis is going to reach the solar system; leaving the capacity to retrofit them in an emergency; or inhibiting ships carrying them from being able to warp, meaning they're completely used solely for self-defence. Another option they may go with, given it was only used in Farewell to Yamato and numerous video games that included the Andromeda, is the dispersion-type wave motion gun, capable of obliterating multiple starships with one firing but not being a planet-killer.

Given Japan's Article 9 and their general disposition towards self-defence and non-aggression in the real world, I'd say a real possibility is that the home defence fleet will be WMG-equipped but incapable of leaving the solar system.

I think the fact that the canon is capped, not completely sealed proves thar the treaty will be broken. I easily see the higher ups saying "nope, you made that deal, not us." Or possibly using it as the reason to mothball the Yamato.

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking, although I think Analyser and Keith are both right: there's a treaty of course, but it will be nullified by an EDF that feels it is responsible to no one, and/or Earth is under siege again and they've got to pull out all the stops (Comet Empire)...

So has anyone heard any new about the latest Space Battleship animated movie? I thought it was meant to have been released already!?

If you're talking about Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Odyssey of the Celestial Ark, simply known as Ark of the Stars to some of us, then yes, it's already out. It was released in Japanese cinemas last December and on home video in Japan in late May. Still readily available on Amazon Japan and CD Japan.
