Whats Lying on your Workbench MK IV

I have used these in my Bandai Star Destroyer, the Runabout, and the Titanic.  They come with a dimmer knob, and they are marked where you can cut them, You can airbrush Tamiya clear acrylics straight onto them and also use cheap Home Depot spray can frost to make them look smoother.  I'm SO not good at math so I'm not they guy who's gonna figure out resistance, wired in parallel or series, my dad knew all that and tried to teach me as a teenager, yeh I blew him off and now I regret it.  Now I don't do battery power, I cut the wires and re-solder them the way I need them to be to get into the model have the dimmer switch about 6-8 inches away from the model then a few feet of cable to get to wall power. I will say if you pay more money from hobby websites you get more LED's per square inch Double Density I think they are called.  Also I buy PRE-WIRED 12V LED's for things as well, the red bussards for the runabout for example.  They work great and you don't have to put your own resistors on.  All lights of any kind will eventually go out, I don't worry about it, if it happens it happens, just enjoy your kit lit up and turn it off if you aren't in the room or at home.

Time for some updates.

Base shade color applied to the x-29. The color in use might be known by many here. The name is „Radome“, which is the color of Hasegawas YF-19.

Base shade done for the VF-1. When airbrushing this I was a bit confused as I saw no change in tone. It appears that my primer has the same tone as my semi gloss medium light grey. Only difference? One is mate, the other semi-gloss.

nose: with baseshade

exhaust piece: primer only

And I did some work on the VF-22.

Some of the grey managed to get under masking tape. I will have to remove that carefully later. The edges of the masked areas are a bit frayed. Need to fix that as well.

V1 compared to V2.

Whenever I go back to a figure, I end up redoing almost everything.

Although I already printed V1 and he came out pretty nice, V2 should be much better.

V1 was one of my first figures, I used a sculpting method for the jacket with a very dense clay sphere to pull and tug and shape.  And his face is the only face I have ever actually sculpted.

For the V2 jacket I used a completely opposite approach, with a very simple mesh (the large simple polygons shown below), which allows me to control the shaping and symmetry much better. Then I add density with subdivision once the overall shape is formed.

You can see how I model the creases and pockets right on the jacket once it is done, and add clothing details separately with a shrinkwrap.

This method works easily for figures since they are organic and don't have sharp edges.  It wouldn't work as easily for hard surface modeling, unless you know how to keep the overall form and sharp edges while smoothing out the shape (which is why you see some mech models look Low Poly, unless the modeler really knows what he is doing. Which I don't yet).

A bit of a teaser for the Front mission structure arts kits I’ve been working on. Some super tiny parts on the chest with the lights in the front of the chest. Almost done with the first set as far as assembly and cleanups, hopefully will get the painting soon

The box art on these are almost non existent. They just have black and white line art that’s more basic diagram style. If I get a chance later I can take pics of those, but I really think they were trying to save money by only giving the little kits as four packs and didn’t bother paying someone to do anything fancy. So far it seams that these all pose extremely well and far beyond what I expected. Out of set one the drake was the only one that has any issues with mobility, but that’s because of the pointy armor around the legs and the foot . It still poses pretty good though. It’s the first time in a long time that I needed tweezers for building a model and have had to use them on all four of them

Those are cool. The one with the bazooka looks Rick Dom/Geara Doga-ish. So at 1:72, those are about half as tall as a VF-1 Battroid?

Maybe a third. These are really small kits. Maybe small enough to use for a tabletop game. They come in four packs, but are way more detailed than something like an average gundam kit. Just not as simple. I do like that most of the rifles are one piece

These were v1.  I like them a lot. Any feedback?  V2 could have some updates.

@arbit Another reason Macross is better than Robotech. The Bunnies survived Macross!😁

I forgot that they killed them off in Robotech. Didn’t they supposedly shove Misa into an escape pod in an off screen thing? It’s been so long since I’ve seen that version.

Reliant UPDATE

ALL Aztec and kit decals down. Only one screw up on that dark grey one around the bottom of the bridge. Just gonna leave it.  Now for some battle damage decals! Warp engine Aztecs were more challenging. Glad I did this before the Enterprise A. Speaking of which... Yeh... I definitively have a problem... LOL. But hey! These are quick fun kits! 😁

Yes, in Robotech they killed off the entire bridge crew except for 'Lisa.' Not recalling the scene perfectly, 'Lisa' tells 'Rick' about the others shoving her into an escape pod. I don't remember if there had been other pods or if they were damaged, and I may be mixing up the actual scene and a novelization that I read a couple decades ago. But that's the gist.

I was 12 and was very saddened by that. But, thirty years later I come here and find that it was ALL A LIE!!!:yahoo:

@derex3592 The wonky decals notwithstanding, your build is looking really good.

@arbit good work! I like the bridge bunnies :)

@derex3592 that reliant looks so nice man

Some updates on the CF-116 (canadian F-5B).

I struggled scratch building a new canopy, so I used CAD and original blueprints to make a canopy. So here is a quick test print as a proof of concept.

I either need to adjust the canopy to fit the kit or adjust the kit to fit the canopy. Probably going to adjust the kit, as the canopy is kinda scale :)

A few of those would be perfect for WH40K Tau battle suits. Or Tau allies, such as humans, Guė-Vesa .

That could probably work, but I was sort of thinking more of modifying a game like battletech or heavy gear or something rules to fit more with the Front Mission. Although I’m not exactly the type to put that much effort into something like that and I don’t know that many people that actually bought in to these little guys.
Personally I have two sets of volume one and two, and one of volume three and a preorder for volume four and the Raven

It’s gonna be a while till they’re all done. I’m planning on getting the painting done for each set around the same time. More than likely I’ll stick kinda close to the basic colors on the first set of volume one, but will play around on the second box. Each kit includes extra heads and swappable parts like in the video games

Hi. Well I plan to release the figures.  The screens are mine, so I could release those.  But the main consoles are from the "SDF-1 Bridge" sold on Cults.

My first post. but long time lurker and collector. I have been 3D printing for quite a while, but have recently started applying it to my Macross hobbys. This is my current build. It's my take on the SDF-1 DYRL version. Based on the Yamato 1/3000 toy, but with some liberties here and there. Also, building custom joints to accommodate the bulk of this build. It will take a while to complete, as I am modeling, printing and building at the same time.. I hope to post my other macross 3d print builds that I done over the last year in their own threads. I will make a devoted thread to this one as well. And for those that are curious, this is being modeled in C4D ( that's my work pipeline, I'm a Sr. Creative Director ) and printed on PRUSA and ENDER printers.  Don't know the exact scale just because I haven't calculated it yet. I made it as big as possible for my printers, but the image gives you a sense...really freaking big is the scale LOL.
