Whats Lying on your Workbench MK IV

@derex3592 I hear you man! Scrapped hundreds of hours worth of work. I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties AND lost sleep! It WILL be worth it when you hand over the keys to that baby though! It should get you extra street cred with your family too😉

@pengbuzz The Enterprise is looking good! Sorry about the spilled soda, at least it wasn't milk!

@Bolt Thank you, I appreciate it!

@Urashiman Thank you for the review updates. That's good to know. "I wonder - will that ship eventually float and be RC controlled?" NO, NOT a mean question. I've been asking myself that question! I want this thing to be done!😁 - MT

Little progress on the VF-1.

Airbrushed the cockpit stuff.

E4CA2D0F-4EF5-46AD-9320-457C34650006.jpeg.661b5025a084494097cc49e1d026d07d.jpeg

Also fixed the burping on my VF-22, and sprayed the gears of the F-14D partly

As you can see in the above picture I had some fun with my 3D prints. Checking how color sticks to the prints. Let‘s see how that works out for me. :)

That's looking great @Urashiman  Love the pilot !

OK guys, so I've been mulling this over and over for a few months. And doing drawings and interweb sleuthing for references...but I'm still undecided ! I've been trying to design a Megaroad hangar and even for the SDF-1 there are few line art drawings depicting enough information to piece together the (mostly) full picture. At least for me. <_< As a side note, I'm leaning hard towards DYRL style. so , without getting too technical , detailed and lost down the rabbit hole, i quickly sketched my main two ideas for you folks to consider. If you can interpret my chicken scratch, hats off. :hi: This is bearing in mind real world aircraft carrier stuff, but most importantly, Macross world stuff. So here's the first sketch idea. #1 is a side view, wherein the main hangar(s) has an elevator going up to the main launch bay(s) . The VF would be rotated 180 degrees on the elevator platform, for proper orientation. There the launch arm grabs the VF and deploys it. There are two "blast doors" involved , for redundant security. The drawing depicts multi levels.0B29682E-843C-4B71-93DD-D5A619ECABA8.jpeg.96a3f5a39b6d461a8c0fafb271965552.jpeg

#2 is a top view. Which shows the difference in design more easily. From the main hangar , a VF passes through a single "blast door" into the launch bay, where it is then lifted and deployed by the launch arm. There is no elevator involved in this design. A VF could potentially enter from either side of the launch bay.46989E67-18DC-4CFA-AAF4-107E9CA694DA.jpeg.4a3e84dc81a619df313f958bdf54530a.jpeg

I have all kinds of reasons for choosing either. So any input would be most welcome! And there's always the possibility of combining features from both designs. Of course. I will probably ask this in another, more technical based thread, but i want to ask you folks first because you are the ones who actually do the work of building . And I always go to the builders first.

Cheers.

Hey @derex3592 totally been there and totally understand!!!  I hope its going to a museum as its totally museum quality!  I had such a hard time painting this stupid Nerf Pulse Rifle and its just I don't know how to use spray cans (coming from airbrushes all my life - its like painting with giant bombs with my left hand!) and the fact that the black took forever to dry and it attracted every fiber particle in my house that every time I get a coat on, I ended up sanding all the imperfections down and recoating it - 2 steps forward and 1 step back for 2 weeks!  Just glad its finished.

@pengbuzz you're perseverance is legendary - I would not have your patience - way to go and I love seeing you progress.

Thanks everyone for the comments of real firearms - I have no experience, never seen a real gun other than the ones our armourers and prop masters show me at work.  I'd love to go to a gun range someday and fire some cool weapons (that's on my list of to do things if I ever visit Florida or Las Vegas!)  I poured over the movie and freezed framed it and couldn't find all the scratches I see online.  I will probably just do a heavier dark wash to catch some more recesses around the angles, plates and screws when I take it apart to install the strap anchors after Christmas and call it done (I just love shooting the Nerf darts from it!!!).

Can’t wait to see it finished and glad Marconi didn’t get the best of you.

Hey, so- if anyone ever wondered what will happen if extra thin tamiya cement spills on your cutting mat, let me tell you, something bad. Please try to avoid it.

I have been building more on the F-14D and the Plamax VF-1.

the leg definitely are bulkier on this one compared to the Hasegawa VF-1.

the whole appearance looking bulkier as well, being a bit more true to the original Kawamori sketches than the sleek and thin Hasegawa VF-1.

The canopy is more bubbly than Hasegawas. I really like this kit now :)

I might take you up on your offer @derex3592!!!  In fact I have shot a mini-gun with blanks back when I was on "Bulletproof Monk" art department - all I remember was it was so heavy I just didn't want to drop it, but there was no recoil/kickback with the blanks at all, it just sounded like a really loud wail/fart, you couldn't make out the individual rounds.  I always thought being an armourer would be such a cool job!

Damn you @Urashiman - you're making me want to buy one of these plamax kits... (I have too many unbuilt kits in my stash already!!!)

No worries about your stash… mine is 2m in height and 80cm wide. Many kits that wait to be build and I basically LIFO‘ed the Plamax VF-1. XD

@pengbuzz well, you know what to do :)

More plamax VF-1 stuff. I should open a new thread for the VF-1, as a build log or something

It‘s putty time!

some more color on the cockpit.

only let down on the kit so far? The decision to make the wings attached by single pylons. Once you close the main body, you don’t get to take them off for painting. So a hack is needed (which I borrowed from that other thread). C-clamp :)

And of course, sloppy painting on the pilot.EEBC3785-AED7-495A-A242-73EEF1EAA114.jpeg.e90af36d50d30f3965a282e92447c788.jpeg

mhmm… can’t wait to finally finish it.

Okay, I read your post quick and saw "paypal account"; didn't see the "charity" part!

So, I looked up paypal charity account,  and apparently you have to be an actual charity to open one (as in register)!

Last I checked,  "pengbuzz model fund" isn't a 501(c) organization! So I guess that's going nowhere!

Thanks though, Urashamin!

@Urashiman Your Valk is looking good and so is your painting! That does look like a nice kit, not too many issues. Sorry about your mat! Glue just tears those things up!

@Bolt Have fun with that design! When I was a kid, I had a plastic store near my house and got styrene sheets cheap. I lined my shelves with plastic to make scenes and hangars. I never finished one, but had fun designing and making the stuff for them.

@derex3592 Almost  - to  - the  - finish  - line!

@arbit Wow! A little racy co-pilot!😁 She looks good! - MT

@Thom & @MechTech Thanks a lot!

Did some sanding and glueing during my lunch break today.

I love miliput - so much better than the revell stuff.

Clamps ... Clamps everywhere!

vf-1_008.jpeg.943e1e233a70c971c8649831d40bfacb.jpeg

I found a good use for these old empty tape rolls I have flying around in a box.

vf-1_010.jpeg.ab974c327cad4562ce1d8eb4e169f983.jpeg

Much sanding needed to get rid of the seems on the VF-1, but less than actually expected. Watching that kit review video on youtube basically gave me nightmares on possible gaps. If using clamps to get everything fit together well, I only had to sand down the seams. No putty needed. Here a comparision of the left and right engine nacelle/leg.

On the upper one, basically no seam to be seen after mild sanding. Have to carve some panel lines back on though :)

As Titanic has wrapped up, (don't worry, pics coming tomorrow or the next day), I've been looking forward to my next few builds, two of which are 1/72 USAF jets, one being the Academy F-22. It would seem Academy cheaped out and didn't include a pilot... Any one have any ideas on a place to get a decent resin or pre painted 1/72 F-22 pilot or pilots? A quick phone Google search didn't turn up much.. Any help greatly appreciated! 😁

If I recall he might need to get normal pilots because the F-22 is an oddball that can't mount the standard JHMCS used by the USAF. Something about clearance/ space issues which would require a different sytem for HMDs

I'd love to see your take on the Academy, I have the Fujimi 1/72 F-22 and would love to see the comparison and how you tackle the silvery grey paint finish.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

It's not snow, but this is how cold it was yesterday (and only that cold next to the window indoors):

891767843_24Dec2022.jpg.a869c2cacf251b078add7c7d8de0c75a.jpg

@Urashiman Your valk is looking great! Yeah, Milliput is the best! Even the guys in my club have been discovering it for gap filling.

And now for something different. Every year our modelling club has a gift exchange. Someone brings in a model and then we can steel other peoples models. Each model gets only three steels. Seven years ago someone brought in a rickshaw model and nobody wants it. In fact, it's now a club metaphor for the model nobody wants! My son was at last years meeting and said he'd take the rickshaw and build it. In fact, he "threatened" to soup it up a bit. Along with the weapons set he got as his gift, this is how he put them together (with my help):

Micro-cord was used to simulate fuses,

561878630_RiskshawDec2022(3).jpg.784f2e5a69302e8c044d569a2c8c256c.jpg

Everybody had a great laugh at it! Now an old Arii 1/32 sweet potato cart is the new "rickshaw!"

All of yesterday and all I got was three ladders made for the 1/72 Oto Melara Turrets. I made them out of brass for durability. They hang down and can get snagged on stuff, so they need to be strong. They were made with K&S #8160 .081mm brass rod. Then soldered, again for durability. Then cleaned up and buffed a bit. The real ladder is at the bottom of the rear of the turret below:

1257845122_1-72F77.jpg.3ae8fae443e8d531eeb2b30077f87ae5.jpg

After several "freehand" failures, I got jiggy with it and made a jig so all three would be the same.

1328808919_1-72F78.jpg.b34cba3ae56d897a448a5f795fa23b66.jpg

That's it for today. Thanks for checking in everyone! I hope you have a great rest of the day and hopefully an extended weekend! - MT
