Those aren't employees, those are the owners.

We are just their chefs and butlers.

Tried out the recently more popular WAVE Tan and Gray Pla-Plate. Been using Evergreen Styrene for the past 20 years due to WAVE and Tamiya's product not being local. My mind is a bit blown. The stuff (especially the tan) cuts literally like butter compared to the 20 passes (with a fresh blade) it takes to get through the same thickness (1.5mm) of evergreen's product. Being able to work without having to dread lengthy cutting/chiseling/scribing sessions is just the boost I think I need to get back at it.

Dear lord, the evergreen stuff is so hard to deal with. Don’t get me wrong, it’s high quality and very sturdy, but that really works against you especially with hand tools

Well, off work all this coming week for knee surgery recovery and hopefully some modelling time indoors as well since it's averaging 104 here every day....LOL.  Here's some updates that have happened in the last few days... painfully slow progress on this build, almost every single part doesn't fit right or needs to be modified for the PE to look right, or I painted wrong 4 months ago or or or....yeh yeh I know, shut up and keep going.  Small victories though...got the 2nd dome skylight cover modified with strip styrene to make a convincing checkerboard pattern so both look like they actually did on the real ship now! Also got a lot of little bits and bops glued on one of the upper roof sections.  My Mr. Metal Primer should be here tomorrow hopefully so I can start messing with putting that on the PE stairs and railings, so the freaking paint stays on!  Stay tuned!

Thanks guys! More PE window frames yesterday I'm having to hollow out each hole because the frames are modernized and accurate, the holes cut for the model back in the 70's/90;s... not so much!  They aren't perfect, but at this scale, I'm doin ok I think!  The Mr. Hobby Metal Primer R sure does the trick! Just brush it on and then paint over the part!  No more chipping!

Just a heads up, you can buy Self-Etch bare metal primer at and auto parts store if you need it. Much mor economical than buying Mr. Color's tiny cans and shipping them.

Mist on a coat, and then paint as normal. If your airbrushing besure to clean that gun after each use too!

Recently, I came across a 3/34 inch Robotech Lisa Hayes figure on Ebay for a really good price:

s-l1600.jpg.e75ae06a98cf8743ef838fa951e3482d.jpg

(yes, in package. It was only 10 bucks.)

So, after getting this Wednesday, I got to work on her:

101_0497.JPG.458de496cfc7f8a8d7e89d7e75a4da22.JPG 101_0498.JPG.376acf5204d5d062e88381325d1991cc.JPG

First, I had to shave down the overall thickness of her arms, legs and torso. Her waist also needed work, as her hips looked too "male" instead of  female

I also addressed the hair situation: I know it was intended to fit a helmet, but the figure didn't look right:

101_0499.JPG.21ca8734e3abf97bad156928a695080c.JPG101_0500.JPG.c1925e2582ee9fb0c1a72f9611436495.JPG

Then I still wasn't happy with the overall look, so I shaved the figure down again. I ended up having to fill in the back where her pack had been:

101_0501.JPG.4411f306b086cc5181ce23cc4e2e1858.JPG

It was at this point that I decided that I wanted the uniformed version of Lisa we usually saw in the show instead of the suit she wore like twice in the entire series. So, to that end, I recut her feet into high heels:

I then began the task of sanding her legs down even more, smoothing them out and painting them a flesh tone to match her face:

I used some material from a vinyl shower curtain that I sprayed rustoleum white, then attached to her waist. I left a layerd "split" in the back so she could sit and actually move her legs. Masking tape then filled out the details on her uniform coat:

That’s pretty much a trash to treasure story.
I’m surprised you found that figure that cheap these days

So am I, to be honest; some of the RT figs can be ridiculously expensive (particularly Roy Fokker). Going to see if I can find a cheap GI Joe now to convert into Gloval.

He usually had one eye covered by the hat, so maybe major blood for the head. There’s also the Gung Ho in his dress uniform that may work for some parts. Get him a pipe to go with it

Pre-4th push to clear off the table before the party.
One. Last. Push.
Kit was missing the 3 of the little weapons attachment mounts so a little styrene, a drilled hole, some paint and "Voila!" Waiting on the rain to stop and then were off to final topcoat and just the base. So ready to move on.

Back when I was a pre-teenager and through high school all I built was modern day fighters, mostly all Testors as that's really all there was around here back then.. When I got back into the hobby around 2010 it has been all sci-fi all the time up until the Titanic. I have decided to return back to my roots after the Titanic as an "easy, take a break" not sci-fi project. Also it will give me practice for the 1:48 Hasagawa that still awaits me in the closet... I've never built an Academy kit before but I've heard good things about this kit. "It's an older kit sir but it checks out"... LOL. Best part??? 48% off on Amazon and I had a few bucks in points so delivered to my doorstep.. $14. 😊

Nice project to tackle, Derex! Looking forward to the results! 👍

That reminds me: I'm currently trying to piece together an old Italeri 1/48 scale F-22 that was misassembled and abandoned to a thrift store (bought this one a couple years back). The canopy was so badly scratched that I had to sand it down and am struggling to re-polish it; the plane had to have every single seam popped and scraped down (stuff glued into the wrong position and left to solidify), and the main fuselage was glued with several large gaping seams open. I'm literally going to have to either re-scribe them all, or (most likely) draw them in with a mechanical pencil:

101_0514.JPG.89fff9394a79aa8ca40aea74c5a0e4f2.JPG101_0515.JPG.bfb761509225b7beac878ba4a9a0708f.JPG

Yeah, this seam. It's been a royal pain, and the marks from the previous attempt by the former owner remain:

101_0516.JPG.d4161e44fbf8645cdefbd3150f0ed1a8.JPG

Also: missing the pilot, so I had to cobble one together from pats of 1/48 pilots I had kicking about. The cockpit is plain and bleh, and will need considerable work to get to a level I'm willing to accept. Also on my list: finding cheap wood (i.e. free, as my wife has put her foot down) to start my Yamato project.

I'll be hiding under the bed, folks. Stay tuned.

Nice @derex3592 - I've got a Fujimi 1/72 sitting on my stash.  I would be very interested in seeing your progress.  I'd like to know how you were going to tackle the metallic greys?  Does someone make up a pre-mixed metallic greys for the scheme that I can just buy and be done with?  It's so hard to find metallics that are in scale especially with 1/72 - the metallic flecks are always so big unless they're Alclads.

Some of the super metallic paints are pretty nice from mr hobby. Check out the barbatos Rex YouTube channel . He does some very in depth reviews of a lot of paints and quite a few of the metallics and metal pigments.

@wm cheng - @Big s took the words right out of my mouth! If you want to know anything and everything about metallics and candy colors, (and pretty much anything else) Barbatos Rex's channel   on YouTube is the place!  I've been watching some build videos and so far I found a guy who did a bright shiny silver base coat that turned out pretty nice. I swear I found another one on the 1:48 Hasagawa that used a gold base coat, not sure though, I 'll have to dig around some more. Pleennntty of time for research, Titanic is faaaaaaar from being done..😑

Happy Independence Day to my fellow Yanks! :good:

@pengbuzz Dude, you totally transformed the Lisa figure! She was like "Plane Jane", now she's like "Babe-alicious Barb!" You have some great skills transforming or scratch making figures. The "organic" sculpts are the tough ones for me.

@Rock Oh , oh, someone's gonna get J'Dammed! Your ordinance looks great.

For those Gundam fans near a Hobby Lobby, they are selling all sorts of anime related merchandise to include socks not listed online. You have to ask for a rain-check from management if they are out. One of the cool items they have is the Gundam ramen bowl. Here's some photos. Their prices are much better than other places. I found this adjacent to the models on an end cap. In fact, my son and I notice the anime models are pushing the conventional models down or off the shelves! More Gunpla kits now than ever.

No Hobby Lobby near you? The last photo has their contact info on it. I know - I don't have time to post this in the "Gundam Thread."

Bowl.jpg.9757cd4adb2f463f63f6159e141c03a3.jpgBowl3.jpg.769980e393c9719eca4a2ae48155cc70.jpgBowl2.jpg.e7288e1ee8fa353da322ddb3385cca34.jpg

I've gotten a little work done on the Spitfire. I've completely redone the markings except the shark mouth. The decals are a modern British scheme from the 80's. Like Pengbuzz, I'm having fun polishing this windshield too. The parts DO NOT fit well out of the box. It's taking me about a whole day to make this windshield section.

TF-58.jpg.3745603203f3c1deae02acd7405905a7.jpg

Then I'm covering the end with felt to cover the wire slot and also some for the bottom. It was a huge .33 cent expenditure. After it dries it needs to be trimmed.

That's it for now. Thanks for checking in everyone! - MT

Thanks Bro!! I always wanted to get a Misa/ Lisa Matchbox in her normal uniform, but they never made one!

Looking next to do a Captain Global/ Gloval figure, then hopefully Roy! At some point (Providence willing), I'd like to have the main cast (except Minmay; I can't STAND her voice!).

Over here today I am trying out a new LED Desk Lamp from Amazon. Pretty nice so far! The two arms swing inwards independently which is nice!  The model desk mascot seems to like it anyway.... :unknw:  Also, I got all the PE on the Tank Room building today! Whew!
