Hi Ya'll. What do you guys and gals think of this perspective? The buildings are 3.5cm high, with 1/60 scale figures in the foreground. The figures would be giants, except from this angle.

Untitled.jpg.af2e41c043c3a66a8ec1e276434aa26f.jpg

Is it like a forced perspective project ?

I think so... I don't know what you would call it.  But the idea is to display the full buildings, without making the figures ant-sized.

Small update here on my stuff.

Finally decided on the proper VF-9 wheels. Maybe someone can figure out where I took my inspiration?

And some work on the VF-1P as well. I love those crazy panel lines.

A bit real world workbench today. 1/72 pilot figure time.

First off, two angry Canadian pilots. How do we know they are Canadian? The have little barely visible flags on their arms!

IMG_2992.JPG.e3cae903a1cceae2221d28ab27bb338c.JPG

Look at them sitting in ther F-5.

IMG_2997.JPG.fdc7c7ce166a305c4bf2affdd35d99f4.JPG

For my VF-19A and the VF-22 I finished the pilots as well. For the VF-19A, instead of using the M+ type flight suit, I cloned the VF-22 flight suit. It looks a bit more like the VF-X 2 Aegis Focker flight suit. I also made a little Max for the VF-22 with super little details. Good my hands are super shaky and I need to hold my breath when painting with the super thin brush. Here you go.

IMG_2996.JPG.da7e2fce7f0677b84a92b0e3158eab5b.JPG

Aegis Fockers right foot came off during "Cloning" but I decided to ignore it. It'll be covered anyway. Here they are in their planes.

Those Macross pilots looks great!

Thanks! I took some extra time to Max and checked the single most awesome Macross 7 episode over and over again to check his flight suit and get the colors right.

Hey @arbit your angle is a little low for perspective.  If you were looking at someone eye level, you want their eyes to line up with the people's eyes in the distant background.  The imaginary horizon should cross the subject's eye level too, so the 5'-10" line on the doors (3/4 way up) in the background should be at eye level to your figures (showing more ground) if your point of view is at eye level around 5'-10".  Right now your eye level is about ankle high like a mouse.  Hope that helps.

Okay, Thanks. I did some research on it. Let me know if I am getting the idea or not.

perspective.jpg.f7805994f3a79acac0666899e32d0c7e.jpg

Roughly speaking, I have a 3cm figure, 3cm building, and 3cm deep diorama base to work with and create the perspective.  Given the size of my figures and the size of the diorama, the only forced perspective I seem to be able to achieve is a "Low Horizon" perspective, with knees aligned of foreground and background figures along orange line.

I also tried a "High Perpective" shot aligning the shoulders for foreground and background figures, which doesn't look that great.  I would need much larger distance between the figure and buildings to get an eye level alignment as you recommended.   Am I understanding this correctly?

Would it help if you elevated the backdrop slightly?

It will be a diorama model of Macross city, so no, I did not think of elevating anything.

I will build all the building and have all the chatacters along the strip of buildings, kind of like my recent SDF-1 Bridge diorama.

UPDATE:

Finally got the Enterprise done (just a few very minor nitpicks left):

101_0392.JPG.31105c45bc8e2a07117ee8690504a55e.JPG101_0393.JPG.e3cbdff90a9623e862bf53460a26e575.JPG101_0394.JPG.c89bc0b3b6ca1cd3fcbf5c2076771f90.JPG101_0395.JPG.02a28f470c42a74fa05ae1c0fdb2dd24.JPG101_0396.JPG.0c96accfa9ffbce840aec6018c444208.JPG

The other craft in the diorama (over Saturn, which needs a ring fabricated for it) is Casssini, the probe that we sent to Saturn and eventually crashed into the planet's atmosphere:

Finally got the Nacelle Bussards to do the same thing as the smaller one (turorial coming soon):

And of course, now the ship joints the Micro to Macro Club:

Just try convincing the other members to "keep their hands/ mouths to themselves" though!:

That's a great looking club @pengbuzz! And real nice work on that Enterprise.

Thanks  @Thom ! Now I just need to find

a couple of parts for one of my Imai VF-1's; the two "sliders" that connect the chest plate to the main body (and hold the legs in fighter/gerwalk mode) are busted and need replacement, and trying to make my own is a bit out of my reach. O.o Good think Ebay only charges a bajillion dollars now for those kits, right?

(cue sarcasm lol )

It sounds weird but if you can put him into an asymmetrical pose (one arm and leg more forward than the other for example.) You can then mirror/flip the design horizontally, anything wacky should now jump out at you that it is reveresed.

You nailed the nose cone's dip! A design element I wish that was carried through into more designs.

Glasses are way to small. They need to cover the whole face.

@Rock thanks a lot! I can guess why. It is kinda hard to pull it off. Just a little bit off and the whole streamlined shape is gone. Looks super weird then.

With those kind of gaps, I recommend Devcon Plastic Welder. You're going to want something stronger than regular putty that will hold it solid and be sandable without cracking, as well as take primer and paint well.

They're not THAT big, are they?

I remember seeing a Meme years ago on an anime forum where someone photoshopped Max to have super big glasses. hahahaha XD

But yeah, just messing around.

@pengbuzz Your Enterprise and special effects painting looks fantastic! The Cassini probe on there is a cool touch too! Great collection photos too. The foil on the probe makes it stand out and definitely look old-school NASA,

@arbit Think 80's Glam Rock. I think he needs bigger hair. Also, longer legs if you want to go line-art accurate. That was 70's / 80's anime in a nutshell. Long hair and long legs - for guys and gals. The rings around the cuffs may be too pronounced when printed - I'm not sure. It may detract depending upon how it comes out. Only positive feedback! He looks really good. I've got to get going into 3D stuff.

@Rock That stinks about the gaps being so BIG! You'd think a newer kit would not have those issues. - MT

It's non-sand putty. Once the white putty is dry I'll use a cottonswab and some water to clean away the excess. Pretty handy on fine detailed kits and areas sensitive to sanding.. The joint itself is bonded with gap filling ca glue where tamiya cement wouldn't make contact. These days I gotta save myself headache where I can.

I agree. Hair tends to come out smooth anyway and can be easily sanded. Shorter arms? I see what you're saying, I'll see what I can do, but no guarantees.

Thanks for the feedback.  Good points. I will look into them and see what I can do.

These tend to improve with revisions, when I feel the need to go to the trouble.

My philosophy with these 3D figures is to get an "overall" kinda accurate look, but can't be a perfectionist on the details, otherwise I would just give up.  I will do whatever my skills allow.

It is an updated version of an older kit. The F-16a then to the c/d and then tacked on parts to make an e. The E parts are afterthought crap... like saw parts off and then splice them onto the old kit with zero fitment/alignment aid. Luckily, dark colors, tons of weathering, and an impressive loadout should help distract from that.

With companies like Minibase destroying the competition in modern aircraft kits, it is really hard to go backwards. Nevermind the past 20 years of advancement gunpla and that whole snapfit side has done.

'Least the next set of gaps are visibly welded onto the foghter so I can afford a little bit of a bead.

The Canadian pilots are from a 1970s pilot mold. They are super bad. I tried to get the most from it. hahahaha

But yeah, the hasegawa macross pilots are something else. So much detail in the mold.
