Derex, Coming along nicely. As you said, I've also dusted the base coat after panel lining, to bring things together. Looking at your pictures, the top half of the Star Destroyer looks perfect. But on the bottom half of the hull, I can see your white paint streaks. I think you went a bit heavy there, you need to dust more lightly in the final coat, as per whatever method you used for the top. (But doesn't really matter in this case because no one will ever see the bottom.)

Why doesn't this thing come with Max colors??!?IMG_20200803_173109.jpg.9279905b3b6865cdd30ed0e31d50e70e.jpg

Will have to order the VF-1A Super to acquire desired decals.

Damn, all this time, I could have sworn I had one in my pile.  Can't tell you how many times I just dismissed it when I saw it in a hobby shop in Japan for ¥1500-2000, thinking I had one.  Maybe I'll just wait till I'm over there again.

Looking for inspiration for my next build.  Procrastinating a bit because I'm running out of space and the last build (Ent Refit), I spent way too much time into it and really neglected my kids for a week, lol!

@derex3592 That star destroyer is coming along great! She looks BIG! Wow, what a project!

@pengbuzz I like your open leg engine concept. I've always wanted to build a hasegawa battroid diorama scene with the head open like that. Really cool stuff!

On my bench, I'm working on some photoetch. 90% of the time, I think the photoetch is a waste of time and money. For this particular application though, it livens up a really bare spot on the model.

Great job on those fins!!  Brings back memories of when I worked on mine.... and I remember it SUCKED!!

More work on the 1/48 Brownie

Magnifying glass was a life-saver for trimming the vernier blades

20200803_194917.jpg.f8b81f14667a918e2f27fcc49dbf1da2.jpg

Got the basic paint scheme all applied. Did a dry-fit to see how it all look together before taking it apart again and doing the detail paints, decals, weathering, etc.

I'm saving my two 1/48 Hase weapon sets for my super valks that are being re-released this month, so went for some RL conventional stores as seen in some of the Master-File renders.

Well folks....it's certainly been a journey...a Trek...if you will, but here today, I can happily say that I have finally finished the set of 7 Enterprises.  The E being the last, a couple of take away's for those thinking about this particular kit..It's not bad, the saucer decals went down perfectly, no drama there, I did cut some apart to make easier however. The engineering section, if I had it to do over again, were where things got a little more difficult.  First you really shouldn't attach the nacelles to the model until you are completely finished with the decals. Second, I wish I would have just masked and airbrushed the red bussard collectors, I think they would have looked better. Third, the six grey/black areas on the top and bottom of  each pylon would NOT flatten out over the detailing on the model.  I did my best.  I wish I had masked/painted them then cut out those parts of the pylon decals.  Other than that, free hand painting the deflector was fun, I'm actually rather proud of that one!   (Don't know why that wasn't a decal but whatever!)  ohh and the text on the Starfleet penants for the engines were mostly all printed backwards!!! I put them on anyway. I think only one actually reads correctly.  Enjoy the pics! All comments welcome!

I really don't want to see another Enterprise or water slide decal FOR A REALLY LONG TIME!!!

As far as a comprehensive overlook of this set, I would say unless you are prepared for a LOT of work, avoid it really.  In order from best to worst I would say would be NX-01 and the D were the best, with the E and C following closely. The original, the A and the B were by far the worst of the set.  I'm referring to the quality of the mold itself.

@peter @arbit, the funny thing is, I had that DS-9 model as a teenager. It was pretty cool.  I gave it to a buddy years ago when I moved along with my big E and D. I don't know what he did with them, prob broken and trashed by now.  I'd totally build another one, I wouldn't light it though. I think I painted it Model Master Dark Steel or something, it looked cool. The detail was lacking, but as a kid, I didn't care. They prob cost an arm and a leg on Evilbay now.

ahahaha, tempting peter with more model purchases while he's in the middle of build.

the life of any modeler.... (I'm buying this for after I finish my current project. Honest!!!)

4ag4qe.jpg.ad84f507a8d5b43d206d5650dc681833.jpg

anywho, I decided to change my Brownie to have more traditional off-white / brown legs because the Black-Aces inspired scheme does not work on brown like it does on the grey/green of the Black-Aces. Basically the back of the valk was looking like a blob of brown so to break it up I had to make the legs in in the traditional brownie colors.

Derex - Just do it!

Rock - +1 on the snow coming! Just because of the cooler weather.

Duymon - That's a awesome paint scheme! I like the colors. That's also a sad but true meme! Not with my wife though. That would result in my collection going to my next of kin! - MT

Yeah, I've been doing mega yard work during the COVID thing.  But there were many nights where I was binge building, surviving on 2-3 hrs of sleep before teleworking from home, hahahahah!

Drinking a lot more coffee than I used to :)

Well, after a couple years, my UNCF Nautilus is back on the table. Had to do a little repair work as the stretch I was going to put into the bow that I've since decided not to do, but that part's finally all together again. A little clean up to do, but then I can do the stern stretch, fill out the lower scoop and put a landing deck on the back of the superstructure.

Is that based on the EDF Borodino?

After finishing the AMT 1/537 Refit, I wanted to get back into something Macross or Yamato related, but I had trouble deciding what would spark joy.

I guess had some residual hatred for the 1/537 that still needed resolution so I dragged my bucket of Enterprises back to the work bench:

IMG_20200805_000253.jpg.c18ff415f0e4c8299b68a6964d4e85fc.jpg

Literally a bucket of Enterprises.

IMG_20200805_000313.jpg.05f2f7cd59c8e9fc45696514a85f0233.jpg

Not sure what I was thinking 30+ years ago, lol!IMG_20200805_000426.jpg.d748653eb4b2197f7ca5b73b09df06bc.jpg

Looks like I cut a pylon and Frankensteined them back together with bamboo skewers.

IMG_20200805_000439.jpg.646b77e562af2b4e2800f7463eef87d3.jpg

Then jammed the other pylon into the secondary hull and glued the hell out of it.  Lol, if I thought I had issues with aligning the pylons with a fresh new model, it should be fun doing something with pylons that snapped 30 years ago and covered with more glue than styrene.

I read somewhere recently that the design team who "engineered" the original 1/537 pylons made them weak on purpose.....to make dumbasses like me buy more kits, hahahahaha!

IMG_20200805_000516.jpg.8f8124b38092ba26826e8e2c1af23d0c.jpg

Chopped the shuttle bay doors and crammed the inside with steel wool.

IMG_20200805_003219.jpg.59cf29eaf2b7176f47a67ce3ee7c81ad.jpg

Anyway, I took most of it apart to see what is salvageable....there's not much, lol!  If I could find the other two nacelles and pylons, it might be a good candidate for a refurbish job, but I have to keep digging to see where I put them.

IMG_20200805_003031.jpg.a45575e5844ee82502944301125ce620.jpg

Anyway, I have a plan in my head for the smoked one, but I don't want to say too much in case I fail and end up throwing the project in the garbage, lol!

Yes. Though in 2202 it is called the Dreadnought class.

Whew! At first I thought you decided to put your recent Refit build out of your misery!

Nice though! Get those girls some new life! You could go to Federation Models and buy new nacelles and after market parts to spruce them up.

I found some seriously messy gluing on this first build, and that was probably before the auto destruct sequence was set.  I cleaned up the secondary hull halves as best as I could then taped them together and now there is less gap than when I originally built it.  Just a test fit for now.

The strongbacks were broken into little pieces so they need to be pieced back together.  I decided to glue them to the secondary hull halves, so at least they're sitting roughly where they should, then I'll reinforce them before commiting to gluing the secondary hull together.

I don't know what I'm doing.  I feel like I'm in grade 8 again, except this time I have power tools.

I don't really want to spend any significant amount of time on this, and I certainly don't want to pour any money I to this project, so no Aztec decals or any of that.  I'll paint what I can, hand paint if I have to, and I'll make do with the original AMT decals I didn't use for my other build.

I started filling the gap in the hull in order to stretch it. Some plastic was glued inside as spacers and corrugated styrene, cut to a 14 inch is being bent around the curve.

Si9qvTjh.jpg

A0NWyNah.jpg

Once that's done, I'll start filling in the gaps with styrene. It'll look messy as all get out at first, but that's always the way before it starts looking better!

Model on!
