Here, I'll help you out :)

Amateur hour back again with another build.

Dug out my Hasegawa SDF1 DYRL Cruiser

IMG_20200714_002216.jpg.630c83904ced637dc681b13b2c2269a5.jpg

Was trying to decide on what rattle can colors to use, and I might just end up going with the colors I used on my gray Valkyries (Tamiya Light Gray IJN).

IMG_20200712_001557.jpg.1dee15a00838a60965c57d9eb328af7c.jpg

Was considering going with Tamiya IJN Gray (Kure Arsenal) like I did with my Yamato kits, but decided it's a bit too dark for the main color.

IMG_20200714_080911.jpg.2abcc2f1a76dcc468f3134d7de34a738.jpg

Thought it would be fitting to use IJN Yamato's color on my Space Battleship Yamato.

These Yamato kits were the first models I built after a 17 year break.  The Mecha Colle one (2nd from the bottom) was the first (actually, that's the 2nd Mecha Colle.....gave the first one to my 2 yr old and he destroyed that one).  Then it was that retro 1/1000 scale kit and then it was the 1/500 Bandai.

That big one was what sort of gave me the courage to jump back into my Hasegawa 1/72 Roy.  Those big Bandai kits are very noob friendly.

Enterprise update:

Saucer is finished. I’m going to decal it prior to assembly since the decals a minimal and don’t interfere with seems. This way I can seal them and not worry about the clear parts getting messed up.

Wow!  Nice collection, going to do a 1/72 death Star scene?

I’d like to, but honestly, I’d have nowhere to put it at the moment. I have been looking into purchasing those Bandai Death Star tile sets , though...just in case ;)

I know the feeling.  My  Valkyrie collection doesn't fit on any of my shelves.....didn't think that one through when I built it, lol!IMG_20200714_084620.jpg.9152c3ed1fbcab4b505b1da87e9c2b5e.jpg

And an awesome collection it is too. If you can bend the stand posts to a right angle you could put the base aha instead the wall to represent an ARMD hull. Just an idea.

I keep building these things but have no where to put them!

GREAT updates guys!  @peter - dude, you are not an amateur by any means!

I've still got my Bandai 1:500 Yamato sitting in the box in the closet looking at me every time I go in there like -- "bruh -- you gonna build me soon or what???"

@Dobber - Can't wait to see the DiscoPrise all done up! Great job with the pencil panels!

Lol, actually, I have another 1/500 Yamato waiting to be built too.

Both are newer Bandai ones, but one is bigger than the other.

I started the 1/350 with all the whistles and bells but I got to a part where the electronics weren’t working so I gave up and put it away.

Older, smaller 1/500.

ban986230box.png.db31e9e9780f472201e375dee12c56e8.png

Newer 1/500.

I bought the newer one and threw it in my pile where it sat for years.  Then I found the older one at Hobby Off in Japan for ¥5000 or something, thinking it was the same kit, just older box art.

I knew it was a newer mold than this:

s-l400.jpg.84469d0c140a82be46ca0945a41814eb.jpg

Anyway, I figured I'd build one as a practice run since I hadn't built any models in more than a decade and a half.  I finished it in IJN Gray (Kure Arsenal), like the original IJN Yamato.

Partway through the build, I decided I'd build the second one finished in IJN Gray (Sasebo Arsenal), like IJN Musashi, and have a fan-fiction Space Battleship Musashi sister ship.  When I cracked open the second box, I found the mold quite different.

Did a bit of research and found the older kit was a brand new mold compared to the vintage one from the 80s, but the one labelled 2199 was an even newer mold, and bigger at 666mm.

I'll have to source one more of either of these kits to have my sister-ship thing to happen.

The older “new” kit is the 2199 Yamato ship design but not in the 2199 line as it came out just before the series IIRC. It uses the original series support craft and the old ships dimension/size as Bandai wasn’t aware of the new size of the ship. The newest 1/500 is also the 2199 Yamato ship design but officially part of the 2199 line and uses the correct upsized ship dimensions. Hope that makes sense.

I have a Hase Storm mode staring at me from my own pile. But lighting it up with fiber looks like it will be such a pain that I am putting it off.

Mad respect for jumping back in with FIVE Yamato builds!???!??

@peter Nice base and collection of VF-1!

@Dobber Man! You've been busy, those X-Wings look fantastic.  Yep, running out of room too.  That penciling on the Enterprise looks awesome!!! I bet it shines/gleams metallically just like the real thing!  Do you have the lighting kit for it?  I do like the design, hated the Discovery Design, but I do like this version of the Enterprise.

@Grayson72  What do you mean the electronics weren't working?  I've got this kit too, buts its in the basement awaiting my retirement - do the electronics just go sitting in a box for too long?  Now you have me worried.  I'd love to see your progress.

Thanks!  Are your step-by-step build posts still up?  I thought the last time I checked, some of the links were broken.  Anyway, those were really awesome and I used to read them a lot, even though I never built anything back then.

Thanks William, yup I have the light kit for it too. I started working with it this eve, but needed to fix something so I have to wait till tomorrow to let everything dry. I posted a quick video showing how the paneling looks from different angles. It’s at the bottom of page 242...hence my comment about being the last post on a page. ;)

ONE DAY and a whole page is filled up with greatness! Just awesome work, guys!!

Right? Some really awesome work from the gang here!

Next up for my work: going to be building a bunch of small equipment for the Macross Factory. Welders, acetylene tanks, small wheeled generators, cutting torches...

... and a few soda machines! Coke, Pepsi...and Petite Cola! I just have to find some 1/72 scale figures that can go in the factory (looking pretty scarce), and as usual, my local hobby shop doesn't sell them. :(

(pengbuzz wonders if he can find one of Misa chasing Hikaru across the factory floor with a pipe wrench, ready to brain him? :D )

Nothing special, no custom work, just building this thing box stock, and it probably won't even be as nice as box stock, lol!IMG_20200715_013856.jpg.e1244e61ca2d1a9a9abc821f8dac055f.jpg

Trying to find an easier way to paint the feet to minimize masking effort.  No easy way.

Out of tan, too lazy to run to the local hobby shop so I grabbed this off the shelf.  I used this stuff on my Bandai 1/72 brownie and it didn't look like a complete bag of shite.  Goes on smooth, dries sort of quick, but needs to be sealed.  Easily comes right off with Testor's thinner.

Ok, one more pic....I can't get over how small the details are.  I can't even see these tiny things clearly without a magnifying glass.

Probably going to skip the effort on the Valkyries....I'm pretty sure I'll just mangle those.

@peter I think the Fortress will turn out great, too. Just as your Valkyrie squad does :good:

I was about getting me an Arcadia SDF-1, but now I think it would be more fun to build one by myself as well as to get a more realistic look.

And to you other guys: Amazing builds around here again!

Dobber - The X-Wings look awesome! You can almost smell the carbon blasts on the surfaces :D

Peter - I'm teleworking AND going in. What's up with that. At least I get to sleep in some days. The Macross is looking good so far! I wish they had an accurate TV version.

Concerning the 1/350th Yamato - Please do share with us about your electronics issues. I've seen that kit and it has lots of moving parts - literally! - MT

How many of you guys are working from home during this pandemic?

I was working from home for two days at the start of this before they brought me back full time into the office. There is like less then a dozen people in the building during the day so I'm pretty much alone in my corner.

Plenty of time to surf the net in peace, but no time for models.

Granted I've done a lot of 40k painting, but between my camera work and mediocre skill I feel bad posting in here since I don't detail my pieces. Just enough to look decent on the table and go.

Also will try and finish the Mukimo plane and well as Freya by the end of the month. I have a family trip planned and will bring those two to do.

Looking good Peter! I also built the DYRL SDF-1 a little over a year ago. It’s a really nice kit, too bad they phoned in the TV version. I have the tv version almost complete but held off finishing it  until I could get a hold of the TV Storm Attacker kit that has more accurate bow parts. I JUST got that kit last week finally! B))

I got to a point were I could hookup the lights on the thing and have it interact with the remote control but the remote wouldn’t work with it. When I plugged in the lights they’d flash on for a bit like the instructions say they should but then the remote wouldn’t work.

I actually have an entire set of Space Battleship Yamato kits in 1/350, including a very rare 1/350 Andromeda and one from Wonderfestival called the Fuyutsuki Destroyer in 1/350. I bought all the other 1/350 ones from AMP when they were still being produced except for the Lexington class Battlecarrier.  Waited too long for it, broke my  own rule on that one.
