Whats Lying on your Workbench MK IV

Thanks for all the compliments guys!  I really appreciate them!

@Xigfrid -- I black coated the entire model after primer, then base color, then black Tamiya panel line wash and Flory's Dark Dirt on the side panels, very randomly, then a very thin coat of base coat color again back over everything on the sides with all the greeblies and randomly on other parts of the ship,  came out giving a cool dirty recessed effect I think!

@Arbit -- I've been really trying to up my game with my airbrush and painting skills, been watching YouTube builds of ModelChili and others.

what I did do this time around was seal in EVERY layer of things I did with Tamiya Gloss Clear out of the spray can, which can get $$$, but that stuff SEALS each layer and then you can build the layers up as you wish and always know you can cleanup if need be layer by layer. For example, lacquer base coat, SEAL, enamel panel line wash, SEAL, then acrylic panel paint details, SEAL, Then finally Flat Clear at the end.

I sculpted the antenna for the head of my custom regult scout and then I casted it in resin, now I'm doing a test fit, what do you think guys? The lenght of the supporting pole is OK? Or should I make it shorter?

@derex3592 So the Tamiya Clear spray would be safe to use on Tamiya acrylic paints given enough cure time? Got some custom colors mixes in Tamiya acrylic but wanna seal them in the Tamiya spray clear if possible.

@derex3592 I have continuously had strong chemical reaction between Enamel paints (even dry for 2 days) and gloss Tamiya Spray TS-13... Perhaps I should give a try Tamiya's, any advices ?

The VF-1X++ is almost finished now! I have put all the upgrade parts for sale on my Shapeways shop, except for the shoulders plates. I think I should open a new thread for this upgrade parts if there is some interest. Anyway the parts are just as I wish and I am pretty happy with it. Everything clicks hard and close firmly.

shouldn't be a problem. Use it all the time over acrylics.

When I did enamel painting, I used testors or model master top coats. Their lacquer dull and gloss coats are pretty good for enamels. I oddly enough had the same problems with tamiya acrylics over enamels and sometimes over lacquer paints. But I think if you take your time and go lite with your top coats and do a few layers you'll do fine.

Humbrol gloss is generally an acrylic coat. That's what I use on my enamel paints, the result is not great, so I polish a bit this layer and make a second layer of gloss coat with Tamiya lacquer spray.

If I go directly with Tamiya spray over my enamel (Humbrol) or Gunze acrylic, I got serious peeling :/

I have been using Humbrol  since I live in the ash end of space, and I cant get Tamiya primer or clear spray at reasonable prices (Shipping over USD 20 per can).

I have not liked results from Vallejo Air top coats (It is really thick and hard to spray).

And Future/Pledge here is dark brown.

Any other options to recommend?

Since you're using humbrol paints, have you tried their clear coats? I personally have never used their stuff since nice most of their products sold near by are enamels.

what other brands locally are available in your area?

Arbit, if i were you, I would try the "professional" sprays (aimed for car paint) For a satine finish, I have found a local brand that makes 400ml cans for 4eur cheap. It drys hard and really great.

Just make sure to search for acrylic ones to be safe from paint peeling

With regards to the Future, could you just order it on Amazon or Ebay from an 'Murrican?

The Storch is coming along great Salamander. Personally, I would have gone with super glue to reduce all that time. I'd hate waiting that long. ;)

It's going a bit faster than expected:

Got both the main landing gear legs on, as well as some of the finer framework (0.5 mm diameter rod ). I'll need to retouch the paint a little bit later.

Thank you.

My custom Scout is almost done. I started this project almost 2 years ago and finally it's almost ready to be painted.

Here is a test fitting of all sensors, they're not glued, just pinned, so some of those might look misaligned. What do you guys think? Should I add, adjust or change something? All critics are welcome.

UPDATE: using my wife's computer still, as mine is currently down (waiting for a friend to ship a disk so I can clone my drive). So, not much in the way of new artwork or modeling projects per se.Hoping to have it fixed next week.

Coming attractions: a storm (attacker) is coming....

No, I meant Humbrol clear, not paint.

Nothing is available in my area, just what I can order for cheap.

Of course the macro pictures show all of the bad stuff -_- (the picture is about four times larger than the real thing).

IMG_7497.thumb.jpg.60615cfaa075331fd50c083dc59abfcf.jpg

But I'm quite happy with how it turned out, considering it's a 40-50 year old kit. For me it was another milestone in scratchbuilding and painting.

Nice work! And as always, cameras reveal everything we don't want to show!
