Character 7 Citizen 03B: Ray Lovelock: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#M7

- some food for thought about Ray's personality

Character: M Citizen 01G: Lynn Minmei: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#SDFM

- the RM provides a nice overview of Minmei's music after SDFM.

RM++ Project:

Character: TF SMS 01B: Saotome Aruto: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#TMF

- the RM is frustratingly light on detail.

Character: F Citizen 02C: Sheryl Nome: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#MF

- alas, the RM doesn't really embellish in-series revelations.

Complete!

Episode: D7 00B: Macross Dynamite 7 Opening / Ending: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#MD7

- it's not much, but unlike the character sheets, the text here actually says something new.

RM++ Project:

Worldguide TF 01A: Idols And Live Performances: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRworldguide/MCRworldguide.php

- some interesting points in the RM.

History 7 10A: Operation Sound Buster: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRhistory/MCRhistory.php#M7

- some more good points - especially one giving at least one justification for Gabiru's appearance in FB7.

On the other hand, the fate of the Battle 7 raises a good point on the perils of translating: the term used is "sunk" (as in 'sending a ship to the bottom'). Some dictionaries give the alternative "destroyed" (which I think has been commonly used, as one can't send a ship to the bottom... of space.) In this particular RM, they say that the Battle 7 is being "repaired" (and as one can't repair something that's been destroyed, the Battle 7 couldn't have been). I've opted for 'shot down'. Hope that (and this explanation) helps make sense of what happened to the Battle 7.

Timeline TF 02A: Sheryl And The Galaxy Fleet's Plot: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php

- some interesting notes on the Galaxy Treaty - though, it's pretty much only a collection of what's been stated elsewhere all in one place.

:mellow:

What're you talking about?

We get a VF-25S replacement sheet (apparently a VF-27 was used as a background image on the page from #30) and a correction stickers/errata sheet! :rolleyes:

I would have preferred a VF17S color correction as a substitutive sheet, damn! They DO know they have messed it the first time, so why haven't they changed it? Oww... I'm a sad panda now

With a new Macross series just around the corner....a Macross Chronicle v3.0 is sure to follow! They'll "fix" your -17S on the final issue of a 100 issue run! :p

RM++ Project:

Episode: 7 49A & B: Macross 7 Eps. 49 "The Singing Voice That Resounds In The Galaxy": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7

- some interesting commentary, though I wish the topic on the Bouquet Girl was a bit more... informative (though, I guess the mystery is part of her charm, no?).

Episode: M36A & B: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Eps. 36 "Gentle Goodbye": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#SDFM

- quite full of juiciness. The two topics are especially informative. The draft version with Kamjin surviving (and Hikaru potentially dying) is thought provoking. That said, I don't think Kamjin's final story arc could've ended any better than the tragic one that was animated (not the least of which, being the implications for fellow Zentraadi who cannot adapt to Earth's culture!)

I don't think I can go through collecting a new series. Not even for the sake of the website. I hated re-purchasing this second series having owned the first. I can't justify doing it again (famous last words) :)

Heh... they'll probably sucker me into buying it, at least until someone decides to criminalize cruel treatment of bookshelves. Between the two editions, mine are ready to give up the ghost. I've always been more about the artbooks than the toys.

All in all, I'm glad I bought this revised edition and I think that now that it is almost finished it can be said that it is way better than the old one. Having us buy the same thing twice was diabolical (DeAgostini burn in hell!), but not only there were many subtle changes to both text and images on existing sheets, we also got some additional and unexpected addendums, around 47 new tenjin paintings, all new episode/series guides and a completely revamped goods section that I must say I really appreciate. I could have done without the heroines gallery, but no one is pefect.

And thanks again and again Sketchley for your invaluable work, you let us non Japanese readers enjoy this product even more.

Episode: 7 50A & B: Encore "On Stage": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7

- overall, this sheet reminded me of how good the episode was in general, and how it rounded out the series. Other than that, there's nothing particularly new that the sheet brings to the table...

Episode: FB 01A & B: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Flash Back 2012: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#FB

- finally, an answer to the question 'Did Minmei get on the Megaroad 01 or not?'.

I would've liked to finish all the comments on the music videos, but after finishing Sunset Beach, I came to the conclusion that my energies would be better spent on more rewarding content. Suffice to say, the comments for the other music videos are in a similar vein.

Complete:

Gallery M: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross #77: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRgallery/MCRgallery.php#SDFM

- not much. On the other hand, the reverse has 4 Destroid paintings that didn't make it into the original edition!

Episode: F 00D: Macross F Eyecatches: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#MF

- an interesting overview of the Eyecatches. But I'm ultimately left with the thought - couldn't the energy have been sent on something else?

RM++ Project:

Ai 01G: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Do You Remember Love?: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#DYRL

- quite a nice range of Topics, and they all add insight - especially on the production side. Though, the point about how one of Max and Miria's scenes ended up being cut reinforces how much better the film is without it (leaving things up to the viewers imagination always pays off in greater films, eh).

Wait....what? :wacko:

Apparently it is composed of indexes. Only indexes. For the Mechanic, Character, Timeline, History, Technology, Worldguide, Glossary, Episode, Heroine Gallery, Gallery, Song, and Goods sheets.

Seems useful to me... now I don't have to bother printing off my own and taping it to the inside of each binder like I did for the last edition.

RM++ Project:

Character M UN 02B: Hayase Misa: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#SDFM

- some good points are raised on her motivations to become the Megaroad 01's captain.

Character Plus Citizen 01B: Guld Goa Bowman: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#M+

- I really don't remember Guld proposing to Myung at the airport in the Manga Video dub... is my memory faulty? (it's getting close to 15 years since I last saw the dub) or was it something "lost" when they translated the dub?

Worldguide: Ai 02A: Meltrandi: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRworldguide/MCRworldguide.php

- their explanation for the mysterious light coming from the chest when the Meltrandi soldier dies is intriguing, to say the least. Their (and the Zentraadi's!) motivations for seizing the Protoculture ruins is even more so.

Are they insinuating that the Protoculture can return physically? Hmmmm....fodder for new TV series plot speculation?

BTW, is all the stuff written in Macross Chronicle canon (at least until noted otherwise)? When info was not known before, who is approving what is being written? Kawamori? BW? Someone else?

Wait

It´s only 80?? or 82 ???

Thanks!!!

80.....81 if you are a completist or breaking apart your magazines.....but then again.....who knows....there may be 82+!!! :blink:

No, just that the culture of the ancient Protoculture could potentially be revived via the fragments of it encoded into the Zentradi and Meltrandi at a genetic level. Though... DYRL did establish that, in its version of events (and Macross II's by extension) the Zentradi and Meltrandi technically ARE the Protoculture (just modified for war in various ways through genetic and/or cybernetic engineering). The Protoculture in that version had gone to cloning-based reproduction before the war started, and indeed they credited it as one of the causes of the Stellar Republic's dissolution.

It's supposed to be an official encyclopedia, so it's all canon... the new content was "supervised" by Kawamori.

's not like Master File, which also had official involvement, but carried an explicit statement that it wasn't a part of the official Macross setting.

Thanks! BTW....is there any info that states whether the Protoculture created humans in the image of the Zentradi and Meltrandi (not the Protoculture themselves)...if so, why do the Zolans "look" different? Are they not also results of Protoculture manipulation? I am wondering if they "planted the seed" sort of how it was insinuated in the film "Prometheus"....and the resulting life form develops based on the planet's environment....I'm only guessing (unless it has been specifically pointed out in Macross Chronicle or somewhere else) that the Protoculture were human-like, but not exactly the same.....

Offhand, I'm not aware of anything that gets any more specific than that the Protoculture were modifying the local fauna on Earth to ensure the development of a sub-Protoculture species (presumably meaning "humanoid") adapted to the local environment to start preparations for future colonization. Since the Humans (and presumably Zolans) were modified local lifeforms, presumably any differences between sub-Protoculture species would be down to whatever the "seed" species was that was being modified. Aries Turner in Macross Zero had that hypothesis that it was being done retrovirally.

For humans, it was homonids. For the Zolans (though I don't recall anything that explicitly said they were sub-Protoculture too), it's something like a marsupial (since they have pouches?).

As far as I know there is no official canon policy for Macross, neither from the original creators nor the IP owners Big West. At least none I've ever found in any book or interview. It's been explained to me the word "canon" as we use to discuss an intellectual property doesn't exist in the Japanese language. But they do use terms like "official continuity" in some of the Macross books.

If there is some form of canon I believe any production art published for the specifical Macross anime series are considered "official continuity". Masahiro Chiba is credited with writing all the mechanical specifications for all the Macross valkyries (though I'm not sure about the "Frontier era") in collaboration with Shoji Kawamori. So anything that publishes his trivia would certainly be considered official continuity for THAT material. Since the Macross Chronicle reprints (and expands upon) much of the established trivia found in all of Chiba's art books for the Macross franchise to date, it's safe to say the Chronicle is official continuity.

Some of the other Macross plublications - such as the Master File series - have specific disclaimers that state they are not part of the official continuity. So any trivia from the Master Files that is contradicted by existing trivia is out of luck. Whatever trivia in books like the Master Files that isn't at odds with established trivia could be considered unofficial trivia from an official Macross publication.

HOWEVER, the Macross Chronicle has on occassion taken trivia from unofficial sources and adopted that trivia for official status. Recently it was discovered that the Chronicle has used trivia from the old M.A.T. Sky Angels Volume #3: Extra Journal: VF-1 Valkyrie (1984) book to fill out the trivia for certain SDF Macross era mecha. So it appears the Macross Chronicle can "canonize" some trivia from unofficial sources once it's printed within the pages of the series, but that might be assuming too much. I assume no one involved with the Macross productions and puiblications really cares all that much, so I wouldn't expect clarification :)

So yeah, Chronicle is good stuff :)
