I think I'm going to stop now. Last mission just sucked, to the point that I didn't finish it.

A. It shouldn't take longer to bring down a FREIGHTER than a Bird-of-Prey.

B. Smugglers and bar patrons shouldn't have more HP and better weapons than high-ranking Klingons.

C. There's a force field blocking my away team, but there is NOTHING to interact with in this corridor--and I can't go back the way I came.

Hey, that was the last mission I finished before the server went down. I didn't have any problems with it.

You want a mission that sucks, do the one in the Briar Patch.

I already scanned everything in the bar---that's when they attacked me. I'm a bit past that.

And again--Cryptic doesn't seem to believe in "low-level" enemies that die easily. EVERYBODY can take multiple sniper shots. :p

Same for space--fighting 3-4 ships at once, circling around firing phasers-----yet never going below 98% shields and taking minutes on end to kill them----it may be EASY since you'll never die, but it's BORING because you just sit there firing phasers.

Difficulty, and "time to kill" are very different things. See Ninja Gaiden.

then which forcefield is still up for you?

haha, yes. The Briar Patch sucks ass.

I have a feeling I'm going to be extra mad at that one. I'd just gotten to the point where we were beaming down the base. I mean, I had the loading screen in between the space battle and the ground battle, and that's when the server went down. If I have to start that mission over, I might quit the game.

After scanning everything and the bar fight, the Ferengi said "Take turboshaft 3 to cargo bay 6". Did that. Soon after arriving, science officer said something about plasma leaks, and we'll have to disable the forcefields to progress. Well, there's a forcefield further down the corridor. Fairly transparent, with thin vertical blue lines. And there's nothing to do, and I can't go back the way I came. All the doors are locked, nothing glows, and running around clicking on things does nothing.

You mean the first forcefield? There's a room on the left right before the field. Go in there, kill Klingons, and then there's a computer panel you use to turn off the forcefield.

Well, I can't remember now but there's a way to turn that off, I've also completed that mission so I'm fairly certain it's not broken. Which is not to say there aren't busted missions in the beta.

Yeah, I had no problems with that mission. Unlike a Patrol mission I did in Alpha Centauri against Reman and Hirogen where I had to re-do two systems at least three times before it acknowledged it

And if you were a smuggler on the run from the Federation, wouldn't you have a pretty highly upgraded ship? And Klingon BoP's can pack a punch. Yes, they are "easy" but they're pretty stripped down too. If you notice that freighter has crap for weapons but a strong hull and shields. Perfectly acceptable for someone stealing equipment from the Federation IMO.

I really enjoy the space battles, I like positioning my ship to fire fore and aft phasers at the same time. Still in a broke ol' Miranda class, but she's a mule.

Ground missions, I'm not as crazy about. I'm sure with some other players it gets better, but I'm pretty much soloing everything atm.

I do know that having a few extra players with you on space missions is a blast, 3-4 Federation ships plow through everything.

You also seem to get tons more skill points for both your bridge officers and yourself when teaming.

I was just teaming with mikeszekeley and got kicked off the server. And we were almost through. Arrrgh.

Seriously. We had like two cruisers (out of 36) left to go. I don't know how they expect any beta testing to get done when the server goes down twice a day for 2-3 hours at a time.

EDIT: And it'd be nice if they'd give us some kind of warning instead of just dropping everyone.

On a side note, I finally got my promotion. My new ship is a Constitution with Excalibur nacelles. Gives it that classic look, but slightly more modernized. I might change the engineering hull to Excalibur as well.

She shows up again? Gah, I hate her----I spent 20 mins running around the map trying to find her at the end of the mission. (she was MILES away from where I last talked to her, and talking to her again was the final step to beating the mission)

I spend a lot of time on ground missions running around trying to find that last niggling element. :p Space missions let you just hail/warp out of there. Ground missions--you have to go find where the AI sent that person.

Ooh, I'll take it! So long as raw "damage per second" is better than a Mk II phaser array. Yet again "I'm invincible, but it takes forever to kill enemies".

I managed to exchange away something small, but everything else was taking so long I just sold it. (and I priced cheap---well under what it'd cost to buy, only a bit higher than what you get for selling)

Stupid question: Can I put twin sets of phasers up front? Torpedoes are fired so rarely it's not really worth having it, if I could just have more 24/7 phasers going.

(I prefer phasers, just for being federation/appearance, but if they do more damage over time give me disrupters)

I think so. But I'm not sure what the advantage is. Torpedoes do have a lag between firing, but they do crap tons more damage when the enemy shields are down (for me, something like 10x more damage).

you can make an all energy weapon boat if you want but they do next to nothing against a hull, it's worth having a torpedoes for the kill shots

I think I just sold off a console. (all mine are worthless skill/power-wise except for tactical)

Is there anything along the lines of "phaser power boost" for a skill? I have a torp boost (high yield) but again---that's just one torp every 30-60 secs.

PS--I have Quantum mines mk II but can't use them yet. Need them?

I have mk II quantom torpedoes and mines. I'll check to see what consoles I have. I just got an ablative hull console if one of you are flying an escort ship

No, Cruiser. But I could use the quantum torpedoes now that I have an extra aft slot (not sure if the ones I have in the front are MK I or MK II). My phaser banks are all MK II.

Yes, you can put on as many phasers as you want but watch your power levels. Once you get to three or more you start draining your power pretty quickly.

Don't be so quick to downplay torps.

As far as the servers going down with no warnings and things, just remember everyone it's still beta. And yes, I know it's "really close to release" but being that it's beta (and the response has been more than they anticipated), there's bound to be some down time.

yeah, "alpha maneuver" boosts weapon power and turning radius

I've invested skills into warp core/power distribution, so I can support lots of energy drain. (and they recharge fast---5 secs out of full impulse has me fully charged)

My front (only) torp is Mk I. Thought about buying Mk II but it's less than a 10% boost.

PS--if anyone gets a decent science officer kit that has tachyon harmonics, I'd really appreciate that. It's my main power on away teams, but I still only have the starting level for it.

PPS---why are kits so often the mission reward? You can only have 1 in the whole party. I sell 95% of the ones I get.

don't bother buying mk II photon torpedoes. They're standard issue on tier 2 ships.

Gah! I just bought the MkII right before the server crashed. 1 level away from a new ship too lol

Whats better, selling items to the replicator, Ferangi, or Stardock?

I think I might actually pick this up a month after launch, I really enjoy both the ship battles, customization, and the amount strategy that goes into equipping your ship / away team.
