Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.6

I just got back from Japan last monday and finally got my RVF-25 and VF-25G DXs that I ordered on Amazon.co.jp back in March 09 and also ordered a Armored VF-25S while I was in Japan. I gotta say I'm a happy camper. I was expecting the boxes to be huge from everyone's pics, but I was surprised to see that the model kits have bigger footprints than the DXs. The Armored DX box was pretty big though. Good thing I brought the extra luggage. Amazon is awesome ships to any location in Japan in two days! Atleast they shipped to shikokou in 2 days. Unfortunately they don't ship to the US....sigh....b/c at 9,000-13,000 yen the toys are a great deal! My in-laws are awesome, they bought them for me and I paid them back....They found it funny that I'm 35 and getting toys. Well my parents find it funny too....well more like shame....I wonder if I can order more and get my in-laws to ship them over here via SAL or something.....I might now be allowed back in their house.... hahaha...doh! I also picked up the Macross Frontier movie Guide book from a book store there. I noticed that one page 47 where they show Luca's valk, both shoulders of the RVF-25 say 004 instead of one shoulder saying SMS like the other valk models, so maybe they didn't really screw up the toy. They kept true to the animation and the animation screwed up being consistent with the other valks? I wonder if anyone noticed that already.

Not sure if it's been posted already or not, but here are the new VF-27DX test shot photos from the latest Dengeki Hobby magazine.

Note the gunpod attached in fighter mode, the (correct) long front landing gear and what appears to be moveable nozzels on the outboard engine nacelles.

Can't wait to get this, but definitely looking forward more to a green mass production unit, rather than Brera's purple version.

Graham

Graham, is that the January 2010 copy of Dengeki Hobby? I was in Japan 3 days before you post and only was able to get the December 09 copy. Has great pics of the finished/painted VF-27 and the MQ as well, but that's another thread.

[ed] Nevermind just found out that there's a new Dengeki Hobby mag 1/2010 that came out 11/25, just 2 days after I left. [/ed]

Last night I take down my VF-25G from the shelf after months in fighter mode to find it has transformed..... into a floppy hunk-a-junk. I have no idea how pretty much all the joints (head, thighs, sideskirt gun things) have become so loose without me ever touching them. Not to mention that infernal crotch-lock is weak as a poodle now, again.

Note that this is the REPLACEMENT one which Bandai sent me.

Note also that I wrote my signature even way before this happened. Is it going to get even worse now? Will it just melt? God, this thing is such an overpriced, overhyped piece of trash.

The loose parts, especially the shoulders and limp hands irritate me.

This design has ONE thing in commong with the MacII fast packs... the boosters on the end of the wing... and that's not terribly original.

The MAC II SAP doesn't have boosters on the end of the wing, they are missile pods.

Got my VF-25F with fast pack bundle the other day and...my opinion is mixed.

The base valkyrie is generally, great. Robust and sturdy, fun if you completely ignore the gerwalk mode and don't mind how the inner neck joint just sits there based on friction and gravity alone.

It LOOKS killer with the fast packs in battroid mode, but the damn things keep popping off no matter what I do. The side leg armour in particular pops off rather easily, and the hip armour is not the sturdiest of them. Attempting to transform it through its modes with the fast packs on will ruin your temper.

Also, I'm not a fan on how you have to swap the two pieces near the wings for fast packs mode or normal fighter. I don't even want to think how it would handle with the armour pack instead of fast packs, or what nightmare owners of Michel's\Luca's machines went through.

Totally missed that you had mentioned this before. All the way back in October.....must not have been following the thread that week.

Anyway the only reason I had thought that the two resembled each other in anyway was that the canon and wingpods (one being missiles and one being boosters) had a similar profile (not much but some). Also they both appear in movie editions.

Oh and VF5SS I never saw that line art for the VF-0 before. Defiantly cool and I could see why you would think it had inspired the tornado pack. That and the pack basically gives the fighter delta wings.

Frankly I thought it would have been cooler if they followed the Strike and added one canon and some kind of missile pod launcher. It's just the definitive fast pack for me. The Tornado's cannons are too Zentradi like for my taste and it would have been better off with something more angular I think. In the end I still kind of like it though. If they don't come out with this in a 1/72 model I am going to have to seriously think about picking it up. And here I thought I had lost interest in the DX line. So a Tornado, a VF-27 and most likely and armored Ozama should about destroy my 2010 tax refund.....shucks!

IIRC, the Tornado Pack looks the way it does because it's meant to be the VF-25's atmospheric fastpack.... so no blocky gun or missile pods. Not sure that's totally true though because Bandai's 1/250 Tornado pack toy has giant missile pods below the wings.

Awesome VF-2SS homage!! smiley-devil.gif

Only way Bandai is going to get me to buy another Alto.

Me, I don't get why some of you guys are so dead set on saying we're wrong with the VF2SS comparisons because

a) the silhouette is similar,

b) it doesn't affect you if we think it does

c) Bandai doesn't care because if it'll help convince us to buy it they're all for it

I really wanted to purchase it since its my fave VF-25 but the negative feed backs and over priced, no thanks.

If you can find someone to ship it to in Japan and then send it to you, amazon.co.jp i believe has if for like 9,000 or 10,000 yen which with the ever worsening exchange rate is now above $100 but under $120.

I suspect the big underwing-pods (fuel tanks/missile launchers?) are only for space use.

They are shown both in a pic in the movie guide book in space with boxes that cover the 4 intakes on the wing-tip mounted engine nacelles.

Also, the upcoming series 3, Bandai 1/250 toy Typhoon toy has the big underwing pods together with the boxes covering the intakes.

I know how you feel man, right out of the box my 25S had a weak head laser and it popped off and then the transformation to battroid and to attaching all the armor was a pain in the ass. Its hard to pose with the armor on, I haven't even tried posing it without the armor since and just put it in fighter mode(without armor) and threw it on its stand and left it alone since then. I just play around with my VF-1s and on occasion my VF-22 since even that one is a bit of a pain. I just placed my order for the movie version of the Super VF-25F and I'll stop at that for Macross Frontier forever until they get the VF-171s...

hmm.

in fighter-mode, the VF-25 with Tornado-Pack does indeed resemble the VF2SS with the SAP of MacII somewhat.

in the battroid-mode, it resembles the VF-0 with Ghost-pack from Mac-Zero, albeit the VF-25 with the TP is far more fuglier and corny.

the VF-27 looks rockin', tho.

btw, wtf is up with Bandai's obsession with the VF19-Kai? They almost always seem to make and show it, and not the 17 or the other 19 from M7.

It's just backwards thinking, the vf-2ss is a poor man's attempt at updating the vf-1 w/ strike pack, how can the vf-25 w/ tornado be reference to something that itself is a derivative of something else?

you know why the look somewhat similar? it's because both are attempts to make modernized interpretations of the VF-1 w/strike packs. the similarities come from both behind derived form the same source

I'm not too keen on the gun's on the tornado pack myself, I really love the new wing parts myself (I love mid wing/wing tip nacelles  )

it's sort of like saying that someone's girlfriend looks like your favorite porn star. it may be complement to you because you're saying she looks like a chick you find hot, but to the person you sound like you're comparing their girlfriend to a disease ridden whore. ^_^

Love it or hate it it's the iconic valk from a popular TV show with BY FAR the most air time in that show.

Just got my first 1/60 Macross Frontier alto vf 25 super messiah. I've not tranformed it yet, i intend to keep it in fighter mode like i'd done with my vf 0. My VF 25 looks a bit blue for some reason and the super parts are blue too.

That's beacuse it sounds like you bought the recently released "movie color" version, which has blue Super Parts and a blue tinted VF-25F.

Fine if you like blue, but if not, you would have been better off buying the original (or reissue) standalone VF-25F Alto, which is white and tracking down the separate Alto Super Parts set (which are grey).

Dude, you're calling the Tornado your girlfriend and the VF2SS a pornstar? Really, fictional vehicles? Bow chicka wow wow!!! (okay I'm done. So FAAARRR off topic. I'm outta here!)

So they changed the colour for the movie, i didn't know that. Blue is fine, I'm not that picky as long as i've got a VF 25

does the movie recolor alto super come with anything extra? like the vf-25G came with the sniper rifle and the rvf-25 came with the radar dish.

I don't think anything extra is included, all i got with mine was the super parts, the normal gun, knife, a stand and extra hands

I can attest to this as well. I was so excited to pick up my first Frontier toy at BotCon this year, a brand new VF-25G. that excitement lasted till I actually got it out of the box. Floppy, Super parts fall off when you look at them, clunky, not at all posable... You gotta love a sniper that has to fire his gun from the hip....

I switched to the models. They are amazing. Look 100% better just out of the box with stickers. Very posable, and as long as you are not trying to toss them around the room pretty darn sturdy too. I have very few bad things to say about the models. They cost a lot less too.

Personally I have no problem paying the price for an import toy...If it is worth it. I have lots of Yamato valks...yeah yeah I know some of those had issues as well, but even with those issues I still felt the price was justified. The MF toys, not at all.

What I really want is the VF-171 with it's super/strike parts. That would be totally awesome. Come on Bandai make the VF-171 already!

Thx for the pictures...

I hope when they release it (and if the Tornado Pack only comes bundled with a VF-25F) that the Valk is bone-white and not that tinted blue crap they just released for the movie version.

I don't think it's possible for them to make the front landing gear any longer without re-designing the fuselage as there's no room to make it any longer the way it is now. Maybe if they took out the waist articulation, they would have a little more room, but not much or else the doors would get in the way of the transformation for battroid mode. They could make the rear ones a tad longer, but it would be ultimately pointless if the front gear is so short.

Well today I got my 25F movie repaint from OD and I just got one question. Do the pegs in the wings ever go into the leg armor or are those holes just for show? I thought about it after I got tired of trying to get them in there and just left it as is and threw it onto the stand and let it collect dust. If that's the case then I guess I'll throw the armor onto the 25S I got on display.
