Those are cool looking Valks. :good:

The Tomahawk Valkyrie reminds me of an old custom kit back in mid 80's where the modeller combined a tank with a transformable VF-1J. Forgot what modeller's magazine was that but it looks awesome. ;)

Also, can I request to see more of the YF-19 Mave if possible? I've been imagining Mave to transform since then.

Yeah, there were a bunch of "customs" back in the day in several magazines/books....however, to me, it reminded me of that Macross the First issue where they actually slap on Destroid parts onto Super Valkyries....forgot which issue, I'll try and find it....

Sure....I will post more when I get a chance...

Not the first time that's been done by a long shot.

The old FamilySoft Macross games from the 90's had a prototype VF that was cobbled together from VF-1 and Destroid parts called the VF-X3 Medusa.

Kind of a stretch to say the VF-X3 looks cobbled from Destroid parts....looks more GBP influenced...and eventually looks to have inspired the VF-11 GBP by the looks of it...

...the VFs portrayed in MtF as posted by @no3Ljm definitely are using Destroid weapons as explained in the manga

Agreed.

Macross Shoji Kawamori Designer's Note (Pg 235):  "Mr. Kawamori (...) designed this VF-X3 Star Crusader (also known as the "Medusa Valkyrie" to make a more space fighter-like VF based on the VF-1 Valkyrie.  Rather than mounting the exterior on the aircraft, he was reviewing the shape of the parts from the elements that make up the aircraft."

Not so much a "looks like" as a "was explicitly built with"... the VF-X3 was cobbled together out of Destroid parts and VF-1 hardware by the crew of the Macross in the FamilySoft games.

Tell that to sketchley..seems he is saying Kawamori himself, per the Kawamori Designers Note, indicated that..the VF-X3 was "...designed...to make a more space fighter-like VF based on the VF-1 Valkyrie..." nothing about destroid mentioned at all....I'd sooner brush aside any comments on some videogame booklet over what Kawamori is saying on a book with his name on it....

In either case, take it up with @sketchley...as he is contradicting your comments, not me....my comments were purely based on the visuals, it clearly looks to have no "destroid" parts on it...unlike the kitbash from the R-Area doujin and the VF's from Macross the First previously posted

No reason to, because it's not the contradiction you think it is😉

I correctly identified it as an in-setting kitbash that used whatever parts were on hand.  He correctly identified the goal behind the kitbashing in-setting, which was to create a much more capable dedicated space Valkyrie.

One of the beautiful things about these doujinshi showing kitbashed VFs is that there's plenty of in-setting support for VF kitbashing.  It's been a part of the setting since at least the early 90's.  IIRC the oldest example of a kitbashed VF is technically the VE-1 ELINT Seeker, which in some versions of its presented backstory from the early 90's or before cited it as a improvised model conceived aboard the SDF-1 Macross while out in space.  The oldest in-setting kitbash overall is the Phalanx Destroid.

This just looks... odd.  Like a VF-19's wearing a weird flared 80's suit.

Sketchley's comment was backing up the idea that the VF-X3 was not cobbled from Destroid parts....his quoted source makes no mention of Destroid parts.....you are trying to shoe-horn in the idea of "kitbashing" to align with your initial comments....my comment was just based on it just not visually appearing to have anything destroid related about it and that it was a "stretch" to see it as such....he agreed and posted the Kawamori comments

The quote coming straight from Kawamori apparently says nothing about Destroid parts, thus supporting the idea that no Destroids parts or "kitbashing" was used in the design or creation of the VF-X3 in-setting or otherwise .....so I guess you are referencing obsolete information, perhaps creative liberties were taken by the makers of the game at the time it was released...even so, you would think a VF using "Destroid" parts would have some Destroid-like aesthetic, otherwise, why even bother mentioning it....again, looks more GBP Armor, than Destroid

Looks like Amazon.jp is playing there "No Direct US Shipping" shenanigans with this release....

Unless you want to pay triple the MSRP plus non-discounted AJ international shipping fee....you will need to use a proxy......

I picked up a copy using Buyee......you can get it for MSRP (1,100 JPY plus domestic shipping fee) via Yahoo! Japan Shopping or Animate....there may be a few other sites offering it...

just placed my order LOL

Looking at the page count...seems kind of thin for the amount of time we've all been waiting...was hoping for a more exhaustive look into his art process....like they did for the last Kawamori VF book....but I guess we should just be happy if it actually gets released!

BTW...per the translation on the AJ PO page.....

Haruhiko Mikimoto's first "Macross" art book

The Super Dimension Fortress Macross" celebrates its 35th anniversary.
Haruhiko Mikimoto's first "Macross" art book, which includes more than 200 illustrations from the "origin" to the "present", including valuable illustrations drawn at the time of broadcasting!

We've been waiting so long that it is now the 40th anniversary!  LOL

I wish this was available to order normally at Amazon JP so that I could reorder the Mikimoto book and combine shipping.

Macross "Great Anatomy Series" mook.......

Great mook covering all of the Macross TV series, OVAs, and films released so far...from SDFM to Macross Delta Absolute Live!!!!!!

Covers serveral of the key characters, the "Pillars of Macross"....and, of course, the VFs!  A couple of interviews, as well, including one with Max's voice actor.

Apparently, there are several errors made, in terms of background data and names, however, as far as a pictorial archive, it provides a very generous amount of content spanning the Macross animated series and films so far....all in one handy source!
