jvmacross
If you are into the other animation projects he was involved with it is a good book to have. Otherwise, not much new Macross content that hasn't been published in other collections before.

Fortress_Maximus
@jvmacrossDo you know if these Document of Macross No. 001 - 004 by Haruhiko Mikimoto, will ever be bound into a book? Sure would be nice to view the gengas in a larger book.
jvmacross
Sadly, I do not recall if such a book exists. There have been several genga printed in various books though. I have not looked at one of my older DYRL books for a long time and I want to say it may have a good amount of genga. I will need to find it in my book archives and see if perhaps it has a good selection of what you are looking for. BTW...this is the book I am referring to.... Chas
There are digital files of that book available if you want a look before you try hunting it down. I think in the scans there are something like 60 odd scans of genga from DYRL, about 20 or so of which are colour Edited June 15, 2020 by Chas
jvmacross
Thanks for confirming, I thought I had remembered that book containing a fair amount of cel gengas. Still need to find my copy.
Chas
Don't know if its kosher to post a link to where they are on the web here, but I have them in a .zip file that can be emailed. Fortress, shoot me a pm if you're interested. It's better to have the actual book, but like I said if you wanna have a look before you set out on the hunt. . . jvmacross
@Fortress_Maximus Here you go! Haven't thumbed through this book for years...at least a decade for sure! I had forgotten all about it. Anyway, it has plenty of genga for DYRL? some in color but most in B/W.....so in answer to your question.....yes a DYRL? Genga book has been out for decades...lol Super Dimension Fortress Macross Haruhiko Mikimoto Genga Edited June 23, 2020 by jvmacross
Fortress_Maximus
Sweet Mikimoto goodness! Thanks Chas and jvmacross for sharing. If they compiled the pencil drawings used in DYRL into a book (like they did w/the Gold Book) that would be amazing. Hope springs eternal. jvmacross
Agreed. It is sad to think how much of that priceless art is either lost forever or locked away in collections never to see the light of day again...

Shawn
Uhmmm...WHAT? 608 pages? My goodness. His last variable fighters book was huge at 280...this is more than 2x that pre-ordered! and pre-order fails because of my address...so will wait for the october release
jvmacross
yep....Amazon.jp has done that with the last 2 Macross books...too bad, that's about 100 bucks they are not getting from me because it will be going to other retailers...
Seto Kaiba
So this is what, 600 pages of rough sketches?
hachi
This is not in limited quantities right? It doesn't ship to my address, so if I really want to order now I'll have to use a proxy. I could wait, but I don't wanna miss out too.
sh9000
I want to order the book. Hopefully another store will ship to the US.
jvmacross
I am hoping this is more like an update to the old Shoji Kawamori Macross Design Works..... ....a massive update 20 years in the making!....the nice thing about the Macross Design Works book was the inclusion of several pages worth of color concept illustrations for various VFs...the Macross Variable Fighter Designers Note only contains lineart....what the recent exhibit companion books have shown us is that Kawamori has plenty of material we have not seen before...600+ pages should be enough to give us a look at some stuff we have not seen before...or at minimum not compiled into one convenient book... The only question now is what will get into our hands first.....the Kawamori or Mikimoto book? Edited July 8, 2020 by jvmacross
wm cheng
I hope HLJ or someone else will carry this new book that will allow us in Canada to buy it!
jvmacross
I had to PO the VF-1S Roy Focker Special MasterFiles book from HLJ due to Amazon doing a sudden 360 on allowing overseas Macross book sales. Pretty sure this book will be made available via HLJ.
sh9000
If the book is listed at HLJ then I might get it there. Hope the shipping is not too high.
Seto Kaiba
HLJ's only offering express/priority shipping these days, so shipping's still gonna hurt... but it's odds-on they'll be carrying this book.

Yes, checking at least once a day....probably going to end up using Hobby Search, HLJ, or AmiAmi....unless you are OK with buying via a proxy, then Amazon.jp or Rakuten Books are currently available...but I personally want to avoid the middle man.
