I don't know if I'm being dense but from what series/film/ova was Macross 11? When they showed it in this episode I couldn't see the relevence o.O

They were trying to show the Grace were sending the Vajra out across the Galaxy to hit the UN wherever they are.

It amazes me that some Macross fans think Basara/Song energy is lame but accept happily a teenage singer with worms in her belly who can magically cure people in the last episode

Not to mention the need for the two singers to change their clothes during battle...

Because Ranka and Sheryl are cute, Basara is not. End of story. :p:lol:

It's just as silly... but I think it's more a matter of how it is executed than the actual concept.

Have you watched Macross 7? Besides, Ranka and Sheryl had a virus, there wasn't any magic involved.

I broadened my perspective and noticed that, even if the final animation were to be rigged, how do you explain the last song was a new version of Triangler, where the lyrics were "whom do you kiss, me (Ranka) or me (Sheryl)?". If Alto made a choice, shouldn't we have a final song whose lyrics were something like "I love you, and only you"?

Why is Grace in her standard outfit at the end?!?!

This is one of the things the movie should correct B))

IMO they probably wanted to keep the ending a secret for fear of it being leaked out. They probably did the last few minutes with a limited number of people and with people that are not part of the regular animating crew. That's probably why it seems different. Heck, maybe SK did some of it himself.

Why, haven't you seen the real ending of Escaflowne? B))

Bilrer is a Macross fanboy AND has his own "toy" (SMS) collection. Shoji Kawamori's in-joke at us. ;)

Maybe that was the reason why there was a similar color scheme in Bilra's Skull Squadron, and why he had so much trust in Alto ;)

They were trying to show the Grace were sending the Vajra out across the Galaxy to hit the UN wherever they are.

More exactly, places where people lived without implants. She never meant to kill all humanity.

A virus that turns you into a fold antenna is pretty magical.

I wouldnt say that it's magic... nor would I agree with Duke and go so far as to say its' crappy science.

it should be noted that science still has more unanswered questions about the universe than answered... our best models of how the universe works might be turned on edge or discarded altogether under the right circumstances (though that is unlikely as science prefers to modify extant theory to accomodate for new data whenever possible instead). for all we know, there might be creatures like the vajra out there somewhere.

what I am getting at is this: nearly all of our scientific understanding is limited by our exclusively terrestrial frame of reference. everything we observe and theorize on is thus tainted by (and restricted to) those limitations.

Atleast they gave us a reason, the fold quartz forming inside of them. Its crappy science, but its not magic. How did Basara do it?

Heh ? Macross 7 certainly had its share of silly science for explanation, with Shiba and his song energy.

Unfortunately, we have a certain bias on this board.

Do we really ? If you're suggesting it has such positive response simply because it is Macross... may I remind Macross 7 and Macross Zero got far from unanimously positive reactions over here....

As a matter of fact I'm even surprised the response was so positive considering all the Kawamori bashin I've seen over my years of lurking.

Couldn't have expected less. We are at MACROSS world. If we could do the same at robotech.com probably the scores would be way lower. They would just say: "macross f CG looks crap, it just stand out and clash the cel animation, shadow chronicles was way better...".

hmmm... I don't get all the Zero bashing. I personally loved that OAV series, although episode 4 was too slow for the most part. episode 5 strangely can still pull tears from me even after many viewings, and given the revelations of M:F I can now understand much of the premise behind the power of song in zero within the proper context. the main reason why I put zero in 3rd place in another thread here was because it was too short IMHO for the kind of story it was - much like frontier - and should have gone to a full 13 eps.

I thought it was too short as well. Actually I'm convinced it was cut short somehow, bad sales perhaps? The transition between episode 4 and 5 is just so hideous and reeks of it getting the plug pulled, giving them one more episode to wrap things up. Makes me wonder how the sales fare now that Frontier has made more than a few references to it...

something odd that occured to me.

macross has always been about the music, when it comes down to the wire the music gets through to the other side

in frontier we have the vajra who's song is basicly a mating call, and through ranka/sheryl singing they learned to understand humans

the odd thought is: is the in universe music resonance thing a genetic quirk/memory built in to the species of the galaxies and humans are the first in a long time to realise this?

or is it just a fundamental law of the universe (i.e music fixes everything)

Its anime. Sometimes it just "is".

hmmm... I don't get all the Zero bashing. I personally loved that OAV series,

I don't get it either... but I remember there was a lot of bashing back at the time, especially with the latest episode. It's partly why I didn't register on MW at the time... I didn't want to get in the middle of a flame war :p

I thought it was too short as well. Actually I'm convinced it was cut short somehow, bad sales perhaps?

The transition between Episode 4 and 5 was lame yeaah... Episode 5 baiscally felt too rushed, and the series clearly would have need an extra episode IMO. However... Macross Zero was not cut short. It was announced from the start as a 5 episodes OAV series. So I'm not quite sure what happened... It's as if when starting work on Episode 5 they realised that they just didn't have enough time to put everything they wanted in it... hence puting the caputre of Sara and Aries in the recap.

Which is why its lame. Please, lets not compare 7 to Frontier. Apples and oranges.

Lame or not it's not the point. The point is that it isn't "magic" in Macross 7 anymore than it is magic in Frontier. They both use silly scientific explanations to explain it.

So I take it the reason ep.24 had a higher MW rating (+90%) to ep.25 (-90%) is due just to the fact that the LT was never resolved? I never knew so many people put so much stock in that.

It's sad that it's probably true.

But what do I know? I'm in it for the Mecha Porn

It would really be hard to have an incident labeled SW2. As sketchley mentions "the majority of the human territories would have to be involved with great destruction". The whole point of the space colonization program was so that humans would never face "near extinction". SW2 would be an epic war that would dwarf SW1.

If you think about it, if Grace hadn't been stopped by Frontier, there probably would have been a Space War II.

This is something i've been noticing from the beginning of the posting of ratings, and I don't understand it. Why do the ratings for, say, episode 25 show what people thought of episode 25? Don't they have to see it (i.e. create the ratings) before the know whether they should have watched it or not...?

I first noticed it when people mentioned that episode 7 had sub-par ratings, and why didn't more viewers like the mecha porn? Seems to me that bad ratings for episode 7 would indicate disappointment with episode 6...

Why would people be disappointed? Episode 6 was merely buildup for the next episode.

I'm also surprised that a filler episode did better than the beautiful tapestry of mecha porn that was "First Attack."

I think you're missing my point. Don't you have to see an episode before you know whether it was worth your time or not? I don't understand how substandard ratings for episode 25 show dissatisfication with the ending of episode 25. It's not like people knew how it would end before they started watching it, right?

Unless it's the Friday night ratings we're talking about...

The ratings showed are not TV share percentages, but numbers taken from the various episodes polls presented here on MW.

ratings be damned it was still a great show

on a totally random note I by complete accident noticed that the voice actor for Luca was also the voice actor for Lelouch from Code Geass  talk about skill going from complete whiner to egotistical bad@$$ never would have guessed it since they dont even sound so different

ahem anyways when it comes to the ending honestly theres no way for everyone to be happy so we just have to take it as is and maybe the movie will win over more people

I think I heard before his Luca voice is his natural voice.

Now that I have seen the episode with subs and some days have past I have increased my liking of the episode alot. I'm still disappointed so much wasn't explained and a bit to much Anime Magic to explain some other stuff. To me most macross series walk that thin line of believability vs utter NO WAY. This episode went over the line for me in a few spots but with the subs I didnt focus as much on that stuff. I give it a positive rating but not the OMFG positive I was hoping for :)

Fingers crossed the movie announcement is a story continuation and not a upgraded clip show!!!
