Holy poo! Three minutes of TRON 2 shown at the Disney panel at Comic-Con! Quint has the story!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Holy poo! TRON 2!

I’m probably going to short change Dwayne Johnson and Carla Gugino here who were the majority of the Disney Panel, but HOLY poo! At the end they showed 3 minutes from TRON 2 which has been whispered about, but wait until you get a load of this:

The footage started with a computer generated guy peeking around a corner. He had light blue glowing lines on him. As the dude peeked around the corner a sound can be heard, a low rumble.

Keep in mind they didn’t announce what this was, just that it was a surprise presentation.

The guy hears the sound, getting louder, and he runs down the corridor, black obsidian walls. A vehicle speeds behind him and he jumps in the air, throwing a stick out in front of him and suddenly we’re underneath him as he jumps for it in mid-air, the lightcycle forming around him. He hits the ground running and the lightcycles battle.

They aren’t turning at hard angles anymore, the movement more fluid. The cycles slam into each other, knocking each other around like in a car chase, but the yellow and blue lines don’t touch in any of this.

The yellow cycle runs up on another level with a transparent floor, keeping an eye on the blue below. They get back on the same level and more close calls.

The guy in the blue cycle sees the crack in the wall. THE FISSURE that we know and love. The blue cycle races toward it, barely in the lead and makes the crack, the yellow cycle skidding to a stop within inches of the wall.

After a beat the yellow cycle speeds off. Then we’re with the POV of the blue cycle taking the turns in the fissure slowly and carefully. Then we see the yellow cycle racing along the top of the canyon, looking down at the blue cycle, then speeding ahead.

The blue cycle exits the other side and heads down a light-outlined corridor in the giant open space, seemingly alone. Out of nowhere, the yellow cycle puts on a booster burst of speed and cuts the blue cycle off.

The blue cycle crashes into the yellow line, shattering the vehicle and sending the blue rider flying through the air and crashing hard to the ground, sliding to the edge of a precipice, but he catches himself at the last minute, pulling his body back over the lip.

Then the most shocking moment of the trailer. We cut out of CG and into live action. A grey-haired and bearded Kevin Flynn… Jeff Mutha-fartin’ Bridges… is sitting in a stark white room, seemingly meditating. His eyes open and he stands, walking to a large rectangular window and we see he’s overlooking the arena. He looks down at the yellow and blue rider.

The blue rider is defeated on the ground and the yellow rider walks toward him. We can see the blue rider’s face, a younger guy. The yellow rider’s face is obscured by a black faceplate. The yellow rider reaches back and grabs his disc from his back.

The blue rider looks scared and says, “Hey! It’s only a game!” The yellow rider’s visor lights up and it’s young Flynn’s face, 1982 Jeff Bridges. He says, “Not anymore,” and then goes for the kill. As he does the screen cuts to black and the title comes up: TR2N.

So sweet!!!

The CG looked like a really high end computer game, almost photo-realistic, but the lightcycle chase was completely nostalgic, hitting all the right notes. It's as advanced as you'd expect jumping from 1982 games to 2008 games... And Flynn's a bad guy! Holy poo!

Alright, be back in a few with images and a rundown (ha) of the RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN panel with Carla Gugino and The Rock!

wait, we're excited about this? Isn't this macrossworld? Shouldn't we be moaning about how hollywood sucks and there's no more original stories? Won't someone bring up Jeff's small hands?

:p

The description sounds sweet, I'm pretty jazzed for this myself too!

dammit, there is a tron ride? hmm cool was it? :D

So i'm all for Flynn being possesed by the MCP. We all know it's all part of the big picture! The possibilities are endless.

Just hope we get back Tron himself to save the day. CG young Tron dammit.

End Of Line.

Young Tron my ass. Send in Captian Sheriden with a fleet of those bigass ships Zark used to mop up the MCP.

As for the Tron ride, it wasn't so much a ride, as it was a large screen view of light cycles & such on a wall in a tunnel that the gandala's passed through before (or was it after) passing through the inside the body ride (replaced by star tours) and various other attractions. It was a nice little park easter egg, and I'm sad to hear it's gone.

Hmm? Sheriden? is that from the game? never played it.

Why no Tron? he was the best! IT is called Tron2 for a reason. Well atleast i hope. :ol:

Oh and i hope Zark is back, he ruled.

Oh, i'm excited about this movie/sequel. I fondly remember watching this every weekend on tape, after school, playing the old Arcades (Disc game i clocked!)

Zark? Wasn't the badguy's name Sark? And wasn't he derezzed?

I know it's been a long time in the coming and I wonder how they are going to handle certain things in the new Tron. The old Tron was very "old school computer" oriented and it will be interesting to see how stuff like "the internet" is handled story wise.

And I wonder what will happen to the story arc of Tron 2: Killer App (the PC game from like six years ago that was hailed as the successor to Tron)?

de-rezzed de-smezzed bring him back anyways. he had ATTITUDE. I think your right, i honestly remember zark, but it's been a while, i should dig the dvd out.

I remember Tron calling , "ZARRRRK!" but i think it's SARRRRK! *confused*

I think the interpretation of the 3 minutes teaser is totally wrong. Granted, I only have word of mouth on this thing, haven't seen it myself, but, going by what I have been reading, I don't think Flynn is the bad guy. The "Hey, its just a game!" bit (to which Flynn responds, "not anymore") makes me think of what we see now; no, its not a game, its a business. Perhaps even, in this case, a competitive sport with large sums of money involved (eSports, or whatever they call them these days). Computer Flynn is wearing yellow, not red. He's not the bad guy. If I had to guess, I'd say his games hit it, big time, becoming a phenomenon say like Counterstrike or WoW.

When you think about it, the "world" of Tron has probably totally changed. Flynn had "been inside" and came back... perhaps in Tron's world people now enter and exit the computer world as "Users" regularly like Flynn did in the first Tron. Perhaps "yellow" is the "User's Color"?

Edit: Then when you think about it, every program written by a user has their face. Which means "Young Flynn" could be an old program written in the '80s that was constantly updated. If they follow the same "logic" as the Tron 2 PC game then Flynn took over Encom and began reworking it "in his image". It would then be assumed that he would have to write new programs to take the place of the MCP to administer the company's networking. And by that logic Dillinger could still be alive somewhere and could write a new Sark program.

With where computers have gone to since the original Tron there are so many various ends the new movie could explore. Hackers, viruses, electronic espionage, the explosion of online gaming, you name it. Some of these elements were already touched upon in the Tron 2 PC game.

Well, Dumont was old... but he was also referred to as an "old program" as were all the other programs that the MCP was going to envelop there near the end of Tron. The MCP himself was eventually revealed to be a bearded old man. Even Sark was no spring chicken, complete with wrinkles just like Dillinger. IMHO it might screw with the Tron mythos if people could write programs that looked like younger versions of themselves. Then again a program's "appearance of age" might have more to do with it's technological age rather than it's creator's age. Dumont was old as was the MCP and Sark was getting old but Tron, Clu, Flynn, Ram and Yori were fairly new programs written with "modern" code to do "new" things. Perhaps the bigger and older a program gets it's appearance ages as well?

Also along the line of appearances, I wonder if we'll see some "non human" designs like some of the ones from the Tron 2 PC game. Characters like The Kernel and Ma3a were interesting departures from the more traditional Tron designs.

Maybe if Tron was a property that I cared about in the first place I could help you out. But Tron bored me even back in 1982, and hasn't exactly improved in my eyes since then. But hey....I'm sure this dude is even more pumped then the rest of you are.

I would lie and say yes, but secretly hide it under my fris... I mean, data disc.

You can have my copy of Maze-A-Tron when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

So if this film has actually been made (and right under our collective noses, apparently) can we also expect some more of the lesser 80's genre movies to get sequeled/remade/rebooted?

Return to the Black Hole?

Never Say Never Say Never Again?

Ultra Mega Force?

Metalstorm: The Further Destruction of Jered Syn?

I'd rather see: return FROM the black hole... when he bonded with his robot... that was some freaky stuff.

Holy shizznit I can't believe they're making a sequel after all this time. I loved the original Tron movie when I was kid although it looks a little dated now. I can't wait to see what they do with the special effects in TR2N.
