Sheryl goes through all the trouble of setting up this awesome present for Alto and then he takes some other girl out for the flight!?!? Man, people we're saying in the episode 11 thread that he was less of a d-bag than Hikaru, but I think that single handedly beats out anything Hikaru did. How, 'bout taking care of the girl that brought you here!?!? Seeing Ranka take the lead both professionally and romantically and seeing Sheryl's frustration, I can't help but wonder if Sheryl will go the way of Asuka Langley in a self-destructive downward spiral. I don't think Frontier is that type of show, and I hope that Sheryl puts up a good fight after she recovers. It's been mentioned in the news threads when discussing episode titles/teaser summaries, Ranka and Alto crashing and finding the WTF-1 really sounds like Hikaru and Misa finding the protoculture ruins in DYRL now that we know what they find. I'm glad people still think it's a good idea 15 years later to strap a bunch of giant speakers onto a Valkyrie and go singing into combat. That was quite awesome, although I still think Ranka's outfit looks too much like Sandra Bullock's water glass talent outfit in Miss Congeniality. She's also still too Moe for me. The fight between Alto and the rebel leader was just a giant blue-baller for me. It started out with so much potential to be a good dogfight but fell so flat. We're 12 episodes in and I've yet to see one that holds a candle to any of the Macross Plus ones. Possibly the simulated fight in Episode 4, and maybe the Alto vs. Brera in Episode 9, but come on. I want one good one! The finishing move was quite excellent though, I liked seeing Alto get his hands dirty with the prog knife. Finally, I am scared to death of fly by wire aircraft and this episode only further reinforced how much I don't want to pilot one, especially a helicopter. Oh, and not that I'm a fan of discussing the previews but Luca and what's his name with the hair meeting in his office? Is our mild mannered schoolboy an unwitting agent of the enemy? Considering that Sheryl was one up because not only did she fail to use her music to sway the Zentradi cause she was sick, but then her "student" surpassed the teacher. On that note... is that the Megaroads!? So many questions now and a sub will help with my limited Japanese. Man I can't wait til next week! After all, Luca did say that if they get it right then it would make it so that they can fold across the galaxy in two or even one jump. The new booster probably put a big damper on their plans. It has a hollowed out transparent front section that would have been the macross cannon on the original. You can also check out an image of the design on the Macross Mecha Manual. What we see in this episode looks like the Macross. I doubt that it was a prop used in the filming of DYRL, simply because I don't think it would be abandoned to rot like that. If anything it would have been used as some kind of tourist attraction or something like that post filming. Besides even films in the future have a budget. Why build a full-size warship when you could use models or state of the art CG or both? As for the use of the Q-rea, I'd rather use a Q-rea or Q-rau than the Nos-G, regault, or glaug if I had one available. In the end, HOLY $H1T. What an episode. Master Dex Posted June 27, 2008 Share Posted June 27, 2008 Ok, I had a class to attend this morning in addition to an exam, so I couldn't watch this episode earlier. Then there were thunderstorms all day keeping me from using my computer until they finally lifted. I have since gotten through the 6 pages here, downloaded and watched ep. 12. Now the first think I need to say is..... WTF!!?? (I have read everything in this thread now so I know I had to say it). It's the frakking Macross!!! I never expected the Macross to show up on not-Earth. My head is swimming with ideas of what could explain this but I don't think I can. This is something that I think only waiting until next week will do for me. However I love reading speculation. On the other hand I thought this episode was really well done. I find the Fast pack storage system intriguing. Also I kind of liked the way Ranka came along and tamed the Zentradi. Sometimes the power of music (not magic) is a good thing (I've said I don't care for Mac7 that much but I think they did this well in this ep). I have so many things I could say now but I has all pretty much been said and this episode was so astonishing I don't know how much more I can really say anyway. Good Episode. Actually, if I understand correctly, Alto is initially hesitant to go, but Michael tells him that Ranka's come all the way for his sake, and that he should think of her feelings. Besides, Alto clearly recognized what Sheryl was going through for his sake when he was at her bedside. So I don't think that he's ungrateful. If anything, this is why Sheryl needs to get herself a support network. With Michael on tactics and Nanase and Luca on intel, you could pair pretty much anyone with Alto. I know the original SDF-2 became Megaroad-01 but maybe for reasons known only to themselves the UNS.. or NUNS depending on when this happened built another ship in this configuration... only to have it lost and end up crashed on Gallia 4 for some reason. This was 100 percent old school macross goodness that I have been waiting on since Macross 2! While I am sure that was not Breeti, Exedore, and Kyron (sorry for the Robotech names) it was still good to see them no matter how the writers explain them being there! Besides, there's no indication that the SA version of the gunboat transformed, right? It may not be the SDF-1, but it certainly has to be an Earth ship. If it is the Macross... I vote threesome, but that's just me. Although I agree that Alto ditching Sheryl was a poor move, but it's interesting to see that Alto is essentially Hikaru recasted, but he isn't showing any real favoritism right now for either girls, and people call Mikhail a playboy. My vote personally is for Sheryl right now, to me she is a bit more like Misa, strong personality, and know what she wants, but there is a chance that she might not make it out of this. After all, Ranka is also not a wishy washy type, partly thanks to Sheryl's encouragement. One thought that's may be worth another spoiler, there is an episode named goodbye sister down the road, another four or five episodes, what if it turns out people are right, and Sheryl and Ranka are sister, and one of them -- would have to be Sheryl, buys the farm. I wouldn't read too much into the titles. Or it could be a common cold Or perhaps a common cold linked to a recurrence of the bad effects that she mentioned when she arrived in the airlock during the first episode. I feel sorry for Sheryl, though. Admittedly, Alto did owe Ranka after not calling last episode. But I would imagine that one of the things that Sheryl envisioned when she set up Alto's "present" was the opportunity to go flying with him again. Instead Sheryl's unable to stand without support and Ranka gets to go up in the sky instead. Hopefully Sheryl gets the opportunity before they leave the planet. I'm thinking either the Bretai and Kamjin look alikes are really clones of the "original" or we may see flashbacks to Global, gasp, maybe Hikaru, Misa, or Minmay in the next episode. On another note, some were wondering why the VF-27 needed fold booster to get to Galia 4. Maybe the internal booster on the VF-27 aren't advanced enough to fold through those fold faults like the new fold booster can.
