Since we do have so much time to kill and since we are nearly halfway through the series then perhaps this would be a good time to look back at the series so far. All of the episodes have their own strengths and weaknesses so which one do you think has been the best so far?

Do you like the mecha porn? Do you like perving on Sheryl, Nanase or Ranka? Do you enjoy character development or big battles? Do you love Hippo-Cows? Have a think about it.

So with eleven to choose from, lets go.

On this question, I am torn between two episodes. I loved episode 1 the "Deculture edition" and episode 4 "Miss Macross".

Being an "older" macross fan (age 39), I guess any episode that pays homage to the original Macross becomes my favorite.

I guess between those two episodes I will have to say Miss Macross is my favorite. Listening to Ranka sing "My boyfriend is

a pilot" while Alto was flying around, really got me liking Macross F!! ^_^

After careful consideration I had to go with episode 5 "Star Date" just over First Attack and Close Encounter (Deculture). The DVD version of Close Encounter (32 mins) might actually be the best episode from the first 10 though...

First Attack.

Infinity

The debut of the awesomeness that is "Infinity"-synchronized action scene.

And Infinity.

Have I mentioned Infinity?

You forgot to mention Infinity.

Hippocows. Definitely the hippocows.

Of course, there was also the minor additions such like (f*ckwin) character development and passable background music, but it was the above element which helped edge 'Star Date' (Episode 5) over the premiere, Episode 7 and Episode 10.

I'm a Sheryl perv, but seeing Ranka level-up has me feeling giddy as well.

You're absolutely right man! That sequence was the best I've seen in Frontier! Seconded by 'Sheryl and Alto hanging around in Island 1 while playing 'What 'bout my star'.

My perception is probably clouded by the fact that this is the last episode that I saw, but my vote went to Legend Of Zero.

First and foremost, I loved the fact that the story dealt with the events of Macross Zero. For me, this sort of cemented M. Zero into Macross continuity, and struck a nostalgic chord with me. Like someone mentioned on another thread-- the episode was like a love letter to the fans, and I dug it.

The episode also did a great job meshing the story with the music of the series. I'm a big fan of the lullaby that Ranka sings (I can't remember the title), and I loved the way it was used in the 'Bird Human' film. In fact, I imagine that I'd enjoy the Bird Human film more than I liked Macross Zero!

The character development of Ranka (and to a lesser extent, Sheryl and Alto) was great. For me, this episode marked the first time that I could view Ranka as a sympathetic character. It looks like the kid is finally coming into her own; the scene in which she decides to take control of her destiny was moving. And the understated tension between Alto and Sheryl was cool to watch. I don't think it will be long before the two of them admit to themselves how they feel about one another.

All in all, this episode was emotionally satisfying. I'm disappointed by the lack of mecha action, and the slapped-together animation quality during the fight with the pet pokemon, but the nostalgia factor, music, and character development more than made up for it. ^_^

I agree with you in that episode 10 was a great episode. I dunno if it's my fav. though. I'm having a hard time deciding. :X  I too am a big fan of "Aimo". I like "Aimo" better than I do "Aimo ~ Tori no Hito" though.

Bye Bye Sheryl. Although I loved every single mecha-porn second of First Attack and the whole Happy-go-lucky attitude of Star Date, few things that I've watched in my life have moved me as much as the Diamond Crevasse montage at the end of the episode.

I can't believe that Episode 9 'Friendly Fire' has been so neglected. A great character-developing episode with fantastic mecha porn and for once the show was focussed on people other than Ranka and Sheryl. All the Klan enthusiasts should have gone nuts about that one too for obvious reasons. ( . ) ( . )

WOW! First Attack is winning big and it's - in my opinion - the worse episode so far (I wrote a fuller explanation of why I think so in the First Attack Episode threat) :)

For me - I voted for Star Date!

Although High School Queen is a close second! :)

I really liked Star Date because of the lovely interaction between Alto and Sheryl - animation wise, if you're going to focus an ENTIRE episode on two characters on a date - there's a lot to do - and they really did a good job with facial mimics and interaction and all of that.

I also loved the giant cows :) mooo! yay! :)

And Star Date was the last time that I still loved Ranka - because of that fantastic song and the Mall!

To me it was tossup between that and Ep7 due to mecha p0rn. I just chose Ep7. I had to flip a coin and Ep7 won. Sorry.

i voted for 7 as well. but i'm rather surprised that ep 8 (high school queen) is getting a low vote. i also loved star date, if just for ranka's how bout my star and the giant panties, but ep8 was much funnier. but i must admit, when it comes to character development of the Big 3 (not, not the celtics), ep 10 does take the prize. :)

I think the people who are more into the love triangle side of things have their votes spread out a bit more, given the fact that we've had so many good episodes to choose from. Star Date definitely had some of the best banter, although I'd have also supported 6, 8, and 10 if I didn't have to choose.

All the major mecha action is pretty much packed into episode seven, so it's a much less ambiguous choice.

Well, the poll has been running for nearly a week now and it looks like episode 7 is the predictable winner. I guess that the real interest had to be in what were the runners up and by how much.

Star Date running second was certainly a surprise for me. Guess that we do like stuff other than mecha porn. There may be hope for us yet.

After episode 20 I will set up another poll for the next ten episodes to see which one out of that batch we like the most.

Well other than mecha porn, it seems we also like ersatz-yuri date porn?:blink:

What I find interesting is the relatively high positions of episode 1 and 10 :)

Now- I haven't seen 10 yet; don't know any thing about it other than the title and don't wanna know - maybe it's great, but maybe that's also the "Wow this last episode was the best!" syndrome speaking (after seeing episode 4, for example, I couldn't imagine anything better coming along...and then along came five..)

But it's interesting to see First Encounter with such a relatively high score. I assume the majority of us have seen it; and if First Encounter is getting a higher score than so many of the other - "better" (IMO) episodes - that says something...

Namely that Macross Frontier started off great and then went down hill?

Is that what the poll is communicating?

Just wondering - for all those who voted First Encounter- why? I didn't really notice a strong impetus for it in the thread, and I am curious...

High School Queen was hilarious and First Attack was cool,

but I just loved Alto getting laughed at for dying 25 times too~ much!

So I voted for Miss Macross~

Oh, and Ranka's version of "My boyfriend is a pilot" was very cute, too!

Me too, but I voted for Episode 10 because Aimo simply sent shivers of pleasure down my spine (and character interaction was at its best). But Ep.4 is a close second (in my opinion has the best mix of action/chara development and, besides that, is very well animated)

Combination of factors I think but I DON'T think that it is the show going downhill. Since it was the only episode we had for quite some time I think that a few of us watched it over and over again while we waited for more.

I also think that the first episode has to have a lot of impact, and I don't just mean action. It has to paint a picture of where the series is going to go as well as introducing us to as many characters as possible. Quite a task.

Also, the first episode WAS really really cool. I voted for it. The second "broadcast" version did bug the hell out of me though. The orchestral music seemed to be out of sync.

The Target was started way too early in the broadcast version, I definitely preferred how it was used in the Deculture version when it started as Ozma transformed. Hopefully the 32 min dvd version for episode 1 which replaces the Broadcast version fixes this.
