Macross Frontier Plot Theories...

Recommended Posts

As posted in the news thread... My latest theory...

First... The Birdman from mac Zero flew to Galaxy Center (in 2008), where an army of Birdmen (Protoculture) were hiding...

Second... The Megaroad 01 stumbled upon the PC/Birdmen in 2016 and were assimilated/captured by them (but managed to sent data on their attackers before being defeated). Or perhaps they were kept in an Earth like planet by the PC since then or were only warned not to explore that area of space...

Another possibility is that the Megaroad 01 crew founded a colony in an Earth-like planet that has been watching over/guarding the borders of PC space for decades... Its location was kept Top Secret for all these years by UNS/NUNS Officials, who invented the whole "lost fleet" scenario to keep anybody else out of the center of the Galaxy.

Data on the PC hiding on the center of the Galaxy was kept top secret to all but the top UNS/NUNS Military Officers since then.

Third... A.I. Grace found the data in 2040 and plotted to use the evolving/hostile Vajra (which were in fact created by NUNS/Mao Nome researching her blood or an original species of pacific Vajra) to fight the Birdmen and conquer the remaining Pc, thus gaining all their technological knowledge in her quest to dominate all living beings in the Galaxy... That's probably why she wants to get there with a Colony chock full of nasty Vajra...

Whaddya think?

You MUST pop your Gunbuster cherry ASAP!

Seriously. You'll thank me.

With cash.

I have not seen Gunbuster either. Is it really that good? I was thinking of picking up the box set from amazon next payday, that or Bleach season 2 boxset, or Samurai 7. Should i forgo them and just get Gunbuster?

Think I figured out the whole debate over a few of the Sheryl and Ranka things...

(1) First one experimented on: Sheryl Nome. Yeah, she says her mother gave her the earings, but it was probably because they couldn't incorporate fold-quartz into a living person at that time. Result: one often-sick child who (for a while) ends up living on mean the streets of Galaxy because her mother is dead and Grace fits that mad-doctor+b!tch role.

(2) if Ranka is a Vajra or was merely "experimented on" by grace and her mother and all that...

I think its a mix. Take one captured, semi-dead Vajra (see the pic that Klan Klan pulls up in her research) and Ranka's mother, and mix some DNA in a dish and a few months later Ranka was born. Then the 117th fleet gets ambushed and from Grace's perspective Ranka is lost/dead so she instead works with the older, existing human/vajra hybrid who needs the Fold Quartz earrings to be the slightest bit effective.

(3) Sheryl / Ranka as sisters

Not full-sisters, but maybe half-sisters (different mothers, same father as it were). A few years after Sheryl is born they realize she's got some genetic problems so they ship her from 117th over to Galaxy for treatment, and advancements have been made in the research showing that if they use some Zent DNA they can get a hybrid kid with the Fold Quartz in them. So rather than use Dr Nome for a DNA source they use Ranka's mom.

(4) Not long after the 117th gets attacked

Grace goes home to Galaxy to find that those over-corporate b@st@rds have thrown Sheryl out on the street cause her mother is missing/dead and because the hybrid project was kept secret they just didn't know any better. Meanwhile the young Ranka gets saved by Ozma and suffers Dissassociative Amnesia and all that (what kid wouldn't if they were this bizarre human/zentraedi/vajra mix). Obviously her Vajra side is so low that its mistaken for Zentraedi DNA (that or Frontier's lesser cyberbiotic and health-care tech's don't even identify it, or someone hides it).

(5) Most recently (ep12 to 17)

The ever adaptive Vajra figure they're gonna send some cute little Ai-Kun green legless squarrels over to Frontier to grow up exposed to Ranka's singing so they'll be immune. It was probably part of the reason teh secret-group arranged for Ranka's capture too... so that the Vajra mother-queen could learn of her half-daughter. (and while the queen gets killed, at the end of ep17 or whatever when the whole Frontier fleet is in fold we see what I'm guessing to be the ship of the Vajra Empress (mother of the other queen-mother's).

Question is, are those Vajra who hatched while being raised right under the collective Frontier noses be wild, or cultured like post-war Zentraedi, or maybe wild but loyal to Ranka, or what?

(future)

I'd like to see Sheryl live. Seems to me she survived on teh meds fairly well up until she met Ranka, so in all likelihood some part of their shared vajra heritage is what is making Sheryl all sick and dying suddenly, so maybe some Ranka-exposure (or maybe a partial blood transfer from Ranka to Sheryl) would cure Sheryl?

After watching ep 19, I have come up the following wild speculation about what had happened to the 117th Research Fleet  :

1. The landscape in Ranka’s dream is very similar to the terrain on Galia 4. If her dream turns out to be true, then the 117th Research Fleet was successfully landed there to study Vajra found there.

2. The initial objective of the 117th Research Fleet may be the cure of V-type infection, which though to be originated from Vajra.

3. Because Ozuma is a friend of Ranka’s family, so they were residents of Macross Frontier. Grace is known from Macross Galaxy. This tells that 117th Research Fleet was the joint research project from both Macross.

4. LAI (own by Bilrer?) probably was the main sponsor of the research at Frontier side, because Frontier government did not want to mess with Vajra (probably the insistence from Howard Glass). But not every one in government agreed with Howard. Leoh probably is the leader of this group. Without the government support, Bilrer starts SMS to provide protection for the research team, and Ozuma jointed it.

5. The potentials of Vajra are so great, the research team was pressed to find everything they can. Ranse Mei was so busy working she left her children along. Feeling lonely, Ranka somehow befriended with Vajra (very similar to her relationship with Ai-kun later?).

6. There was infighting between Frontier and Galaxy about the goal of Vajra research. Frontier camp wants to make peace with them, but Galaxy camp wants to know every thing about Vajra at all cost. Sensing the danger, Frontier camp decided to abandon the research.

7. During the pull out from Galia 4, something went very wrong that triggered the attack from Vajra (sabotage by Grace? Vajra though Ranka was in danger being taking away?) Only Ranka was saved by Vajra because they though she is their friend.

I don't think anyone here has really figured out much of anything, including me.

That's the fun of speculating ^_^

I think in the end, Sheryl and Ranka song will not safe Frontier, Alto will, with his Enka song and Sakura Hime costume

I bet he's going to do duet with Mr.Tokugawa singing "Kyoudai sen"

LAI is Luca's family company not Bilrer.

Bilrer according to Luca made a killing in the transport escort business.

As seen in Macross Dynamite 7 wherever man goes there will always be crooks.

Algus Salsa for example a former science officer in Bodolzaa's fleet founded General Galaxy, a sucessful manufacturer of Valkyries such as the VF-4 Lightning III, VF-17, VF-171, VF-22.

Some first gen cultured Zentradi like these two prospered in the capitalistic system.

Early on I speculated that General Galaxy funded Macross Galaxy considering the features of the VF-27. Stealth and perhaps Brain Direct Interface for cybernetically enhanced pilots.

Who know may be old Algus is one of those voices in Grace's head.

Algus Selzer

Zentradi technician/designer

Algus Selzer was a former technician in the Boddole Zer fleet during Space War I. After earning doctorates in flight and bio-electronic engineering, he was invited to be the chief project advisor of General Galaxy at its founding in 2017. He has since contributed to the design of the VF-9 Cutlass, took responsibility for the design of the VF-17 Nightmare, and headed the YF-21 design team.

Gender Male

Lineage Zentradi

Occupation Technician, chief project advisor, design team head

Affiliation Zentradi, General Galaxy

Project Team Super Nova, YF-21 Team

General Galaxy

An aerospace design and manufacturing company founded 2017. Former Bodol Zer Main Fleet technician Algus Selzer had just earned his doctorate in flight and bio-electronic engineering when he was invited to be the chief project advisor at General Galaxy's founding. General Galaxy produced numerous variable fighter designs during the early years (including the VF-14 Vampire along with Messer, a fighter now infamous for a role in the Protodeviln War) but is most famous for building the VF-17 Nightmare heavy variable fighter. In the 2030s, General Galaxy was one of two demonstration/validation phase contractors to participate in the Project Super Nova Advanced Variable Fighter (AVF) competition. Unfortunately General Galaxy's YF-21 variable fighter lost in the Project Super Nova AVF, though debate continues about the significant impact the Sharon Apple Incident had upon the AVF competition. Despite these setbacks, the YF-21 would give birth to the VF-22 Sturmvogel II special operations fighter and General Galaxy would be awarded the coveted main variable fighter contract to the New United Nations Spacy with their redesigned VF-171 variable fighter/bomber (in active service as of 2059).

Now could this old man Zentradi that specializes on VF stealth be one of Grace's cohorts?

The BDI and BMI were Guld Bowman's brainchild but he's uh well dead. General Galaxy likely has the patents to it.

Also Brera is a Zentradi or half Zentradi correction quarter Zentradi. A hybrid like Guld.

I think it might be possible that the Vajra are (mostly) non-intelligent after all. However, they may be strongly empathic, meaning that they'd feel and react to the emotions of those they encounter. The more the inhabitants of Frontier hate the Vajra, the stronger the Vajra feed off that hate, and become more aggressive themselves. Rather than being evil/malicious, they're simply a reflection of our own worst tendencies, become physically manifest. That could be the true terror of the Vajra. (Of course, Grace would have needed to kick the cycle off.)

This might have something to do with the emotion index Grace measures on the fold transmissions from Ranka's singing, and why she's so eager to encourage hate for the Vajra.

In the end, the only way to stop the cycle is for the Frontier side to learn to let go of their hate, and become flower children or something.

I'm a bit loathe to accept this theory entirely, but I think some sort of empathic feedback mechanism may play a role in some of the Vajra's behavior. It may not entirely be some sort of rational defense response.

There's no rationality to it at all...

Macross Galaxy citizens are under Galaxy Anonymous' control ala Unicron and Galvatron.

That is why we haven't heard from them. Their implants and cybernetics are like a Trojan horse.

Galaxy Anonymous has taken over Macross Galaxy.

It will be Sheryl who will be able to save them with her song.

We know Grace & company prompted the Vajra to attack Frontier. The Vajra may be following a perfectly logical course of action in doing their utmost to destroy the Frontier fleet and everyone in it. Just because they're brutally effective doesn't mean what they're doing doesn't make logical sense, from their perspective. :)

Actually there is. Basically the Vajra react to ppl emotions. If everybody is full of hate Vajra will get in a destructive frenzy... Is a good theory. However, I think more of an attack-the-guys-with-the-guns mandate on their behavior...

More and more (specially after episode 20) I'm convinced that the Vajra are the spawn of what remained of the Birdman from macross Zero that folded to the center of the Galaxy. Sara Nome died when the reaction warheads hit the Birdman, so it entered auto-mode and folded away (This implies that Shin didn't fold, he died in the watercrash... what Mao Nome saw was a vision and nothing more.... sorry).

After arriving at the center of the Galaxy the Birdman produced the V-Type virus and created the Vajra as we know them... The Vajra are imprinted with the Birdman's mission of destroying the war-like races, so they attack anybody in Frontier (specially if they have any guns).

The scene of the Vajra Mini-Zam visciously attacking the sniper in Episode 20 made me think of this...

That makes sense...

The birdman created the Vajra (with integrated fold quartz and the ability to produce weaponry internally)... Birdman could do it.

His mission was to prevent humanity from spreading its seed of war throughout the stars, so perhaps they were created to fold, find and eliminate warring races.

I also agree, Shin died, but I disagree with you on what Mao saw.

Mao saw Shin's spirit (fused forever with his plane... anyone ever see "Porco Rosso"?) and he disappeared to the center of the galaxy with Sara because that's where the one he loved went. Perhaps the center of the Galaxy is heaven?

Another question is what precisely, is the V-type virus?

What exactly does it do, really? It's obviously not contagious via air, but is by blood. It hasn't turned Sheryl into a zombie yet, despite the fact she is no longer taking the inhibitors. It's also not a terribly fast-acting virus... in fact, it seems more like Aids than say ebola or the 'rage' virus of 28-days-later fame.

My thought about the Vajra, assuming they were created by birdman, is that were there no war and a lack of hate, then therefore the Vajra would leave them alone. Which explains Ai-kun's behavior. He stayed as a cute, fuzzy larva once out of the egg for quite some time because Ranka found him and was nice to him. Therefore, his programming prevented him from evolving into a full-blown big-zam Vajra. Ranka was loving and possessed no weapons. Or maybe just because she was the queen and was in a positive emotional state. As evidenced at the end of Ep 17 with the eggs hatching, all those other things were initially Ai-kun-type things... and they were also placid for as long as Ranka's emotional state was good (Why else were they sitting placidly at the concert observing??).

But since Ranka's emotional index dropped therefore it sent them into a hurtful killing frenzy.

What role does the Vajra overmind play? It asks Ranka if she's lonely, and she says yes, and then the vajra overmind says "then I know a good way" (presumably I know a good way to make you not feel lonely).

Which begs the question, okay, we know what happens when Ranka is emotionally hurt, but what about if she's angry? What would that do? What would happen if Ranka were to fill with hate, anger or jealousy and then attempt to sing?? What then?

SH!T WENT DOWN the second Ranka's emotional state went from elated to deeply hurt.

Sigh,

I don't know how this can end happily

well... I posted this in the ep 20 thread... but it seemed to get ignored - twice, so here it is where it might be appreciated:

thing is that the effects of Ranka's singing was quite obvious anytime she was present in the battlespace riding along in the Monster... she starts singing, and after a moment of indescision, all the vajra in close proximity start heading her way. should have been easy to spot in the after-action debriefs. I am amazed that none of the skulls caught it at least... or even Carnalia... SHE should have been the first one to say 'WTF??? as soon as she started singing my Monster became a vajra magnet???!!!???' this should have been promptly followed by 'bitch, STOP SINGING, or so help me I will throw u out the airlock, and not give a DAMN what Ozma does to me later!!!' then, after realizing what she just said, she should be like 'hmmm... that might be interesting... WTF AM I THINKING... I'M MARRIED!!!'

would have been hilarious...

I apologize for the spamming...

I reckon that by the end of the series, Ranka will end up going off with the Vajra, perhaps transformed into some sort of Vajra/human hybrid herself.

Either Sheyrl or Alto will get together by the end of the series, or both will die. My theory.
