Does anyone know when the version of "Don't be late" that was featured on the all that VF commercial is going to be released?

I love that one ^_^

I am not sure that that's a version of Don't be Late, although I recognize that the start of the "doo doo doo doo doo", has the melody of Don't be Late's "-sei chirashite date", but with a different tempo. Regardless of what that song is, I'd also love to have it :)

I just checked out the promo (forgot about it), it's the Don't Be Late remix beat from episode 6 (or it shares a similar melody), really hope we get to hear a full version of this song in the show or as a b side... maybe for Lion?

Does anyone know how many copies of Ranka's single were sold this week?

It's been in the #5 position for 4 days straight, so it won't keep up the #3 debut of Triangler and Diamond Crevasse but it could still outsell both of them as far as opening weeks go. Really after episode 12 this should be the highest selling single of the series, got promoted hardcore and has two covers of two of the most well known songs in the franchise...

-- -- -- *5 *5 *5→*5 ランカ・リー=中島愛 「星間飛行」

Excuse the ? but I don't have Japanese characters installed.

I stand corrected, the tempo is different, and so is the rhythm

Does anyone know how many copies of Ranka's single were sold this week?

I would hazard a guess, 20,000 - 35,000 units from Wednesday to Saturday. They never published the sales figures in Oricon, meaning that the CD sales were lower than 10K on each day. We will find out on Tuesday or Wednesday this coming week what the real figures for one week (7 days) are.

http://www.oricon.co.jp/rank/js/d/

If you look at the sales figures last Friday,

Shuchishin - 14316

Arashi - 9889

Pornograffiti - 2192

Yuzu - unpublished

Megumi/Ranka - unpublished

So it's safe to say Seikan Hikou sold less than 2192 copies last Friday, but of course CD sales go down with time, and the first day should have been more stellar. This may be the first Macross F CD that wouldn't make the weekly top 3 spot, but it's okay since it had tough competition, all the CDs in the top 10 when it debuted were all new releases!

Of all of the songs to come out of Macross Frontier, I really dig "Infinity", the intro just hooks me in and it doesn't let me go until the end of the song. Ranka's rendition of "What 'bout my star?" is my second favorite song. The only song I've heard that just doesn't agree with me is "Welcome to my fanclubs night".

On a side note, I added 2 CDs worth of Macross music into the music rotation at my restaurant. A mix of instrumentals and vocals from Macross, Macross Plus, and Macross Frontier. It's a Japanese Steakhouse which is very convenient and I'm sick of all the piano renditions of love song mixes that my aunt put in the system. Makes work just that more enjoyable :D

When do we find out again? Monday morning/afternoon japanese time?

I'm not sure but I guess it'd be on Wednesday morning Japanese time, since that's exactly 7 days from the release... if not, it'd be a little later. (EDIT: Hmm, come to think of it, I don't know how Oricon operates, so it might appear on Monday...)

Seikan Hikou went up to #4, but no figures still. The CD above it had 2474 CDs sold.

It's gotten at least one more sale, this episode finally wore me down, and I just ordered all the isngles currently out :)

Just to benchmark:

Triangler's first week: 34,961

Don't be Late's first week: 42,714

Seikan Hikou: ?

Figures are in and it's the lowest debut so far but only just.

Triangler's first week: 34,961

Don't be Late's first week: 42,714

Seikan Hikou first week: 34,501

Surprised to see it having the lowest first week total out of the Macross Frontier singles, it was easily the most pushed single in the show and it had covers of 2 of the most well known Macross songs. I do expect this to eventually outsell Don't Be Late since the release of the Frontier OST really hit the cd single sales for both Don't Be Late and Triangler. Seeing as how OST II would be late August at earliest that's not a problem for Seikan Hikou.

Where did you get the sales figure? The Oricon single weeklies are not yet updated...

Let's see, Lion should outsell all of those, given both Ranka and Sheryl are singing. It's also an OP + ED single, and I suppose we get a few episodes that air the songs before the single gets sold which is good for publicity. The only factor to affect the sales would be how well-written the songs are. I'm excited to hear them :)

Westlo... where did you get those figures? Soundscan Japan also hasn't updated their weeklies yet.

None so far. Perhaps we'll get some news this month or next.

I get my figures from this Oricon thread, that get the figures before Oricon updates, how I don't know.

http://www.jpopmusic.com/forums/viewtopic....&start=4590

Don't Be Late sold 1,600 this week compared to 1,300 last week. I don't have japanese characters installed but seeing ランカ・リー=中島愛 it's easy to see that is Megumi = Ranka Lee or whatever. They also constantly update the top 100 for singles and albums for the year.

The person posting there must be an insider or something. That's great then! Or not, I was expecting the sales of the singles to go up. But good news, the single is now on #3 in the daily charts, it's highest position so far, with 1406 CDs sold on June 30.

I saw on your blog that the May'n Lion/Northern Cross single got pushed back to the 20th of August :( Maybe due to a delay in the schedule? Since Macross Frontier is suppose to end on the 17th of October and is suppose to be 25 episodes long that means we have 3 extra weeks. I'm guessing the delay has to do with the single being pushed back especially if they want to tie Northern Cross into the show (gogo Sheryl fightback!) the same week the cd single is released in a similar way to Diamond Crevasse was in episode 6.

I was pretty disappointed too when it was pushed back, it's now almost 2 months of no new CD released. I suppose it lets us save up for it though. The single was pushed back 2 weeks, and I suppose that's because there was a one week episode delay, and I think we're anticipating another delay. Oh well, whatever is better for the sales I suppose.

I stand corrected, Triangler only sold 31,270 units based on the Oricon charts (I was looking at another ranking system before). Seikan Hikou outsold the Triangler single in their first week.

*woot!!!*

oh my.

got me thinking...

is megumi nakajima the new maaya sakamoto? the parallels between the way nakajima got her seiyuu debut here, and maaya got hers in escaflowne is starting to get to me.

and megumi does sing like maaya sometimes...

:o

And Kanno will make at least one of her CDs... Although I'll have to say that Maaya's voice had much more emotions in it when she started than Megumi's right now.

Who would've thought 3 months ago that Maaya would have the lowest opening week figures and most likely lowest overall sales for the Macross cd singles. (even though this is the highest selling cd single of her career!) When I first heard that Maaya was doing the OP instead of May'ns Don't Be Late I thought this was clearly a cd sales move... *sigh* I still maintain that Don't Be Late would've made an incredible OP with the right animation.

next to Triangler, it's Infinity that always had the OP vibe for me. :)

that could work too. ^_^

But see what i mean? in your heart, you've already replaced maaya with megumi. how could you?? :p

Well that may sound like it, but I haven't mentioned that Triangler is a poorly written song, and I didn't want it as an OP in the first place. I have replaced Maaya with other artists such as Origa, but I don't think I'd put Megumi anywhere above Maaya, as of now. :) Besides, as I've said, Maaya has more emotions in her voice when she was younger than Megumi is now, so it's hard for me to pick Megumi over her.

With Frontier we could be comparing one of Maaya's worst songs against the best Megumi ever does, I'll take stuff like Hemisphere over any Ranka song in a heartbeat.

Really? If the fan dubs i read for Triangler are accurate (Shinsen) I think the intro is so appropriate for the as I could hear it being either Ranka or Sheryl singing it about Alto, but using a different singer so we don't know which one. ^_^
