Well if they didn't say "yasashiku shite", what did they say?

Err too bad the only languages I'm good with are English (kind of) and computer languages. :(

This might help then:

Better?

*sigh*

rather than saying "yasashiku shite", i believe they said "kochira kara onegaishimasu." which means, "please do" or "we request that you do."

therefore, the dialog goes like this:

kanaria: "dulphim!! this is rabbit 1. i'm going to borrow your hull."

dulphim: "dulphim to rabbit 1. by all means, we request that you do."

I don't hear a onegaishimasu anywhere in that dialogue neither do i hear a yasashiku shite

I'm quite sure it says "Kouchira Dulfim, *** *** tanum"

Translated: "This is Dulfim, *** *** leave it to you." AiA and GG is more accurate

I'm not surprised. Given how the ratings have been low since the beginning and the "plot" has only kicked in. Throw in the multiple other "School Drama's" that have come before and that they have been less flat and far more engrossing than M:F. AND that it's also being shown when Gundam 00, and CodeG are also on. The low ratings are not surprising at all!

Music & Mecha action can only carry an anime so far and the characters and story have to carry it the rest of the way.

Macross F is flat and not engrossing?

hmmm.. on second thought, it could have been "kochira darufimu. kochira kara yoroshiku tanomu." which essentially means the same thing.

Maybe thats because most japanese people like happy person anime with little girls and all that moei garbage thats out there... Japan has really become a demented country... They have seriously lost touch with reality and it shows with their general interest in entertainment... im glad here in the states ppl arent obsessed with that garbage. Code geass?! give me a break I never liked that anime... everything about it is gay... and gundam is old.

I suggest that when you visit Japan, don't come near to Akihabara area, all the Otaku stuff there will make your head explode in rage

Is Shinsen sub out yet?

I hope, the Shinsen sub for eps # 6 & 7 comes out soon. They are the only ones that play on my stand alone DVD players when I burn them to DVD.

My home desktop PC is so antiquated, that it has no chance of being able to play anything.

I can't carry my work notebook (which can play everything) home with me everyday.

I noticed Shinsen has released more RAWS of stuff and some subs but no Macross  PRIORITIES SHINSEN!!!!

I am currently downloading all the subs from Shinsen for the past Macross Frontier episodes. Shinsen has always had the best subs IMO. I think what I'll do now is just download raws when they come out, get the Gattai .ass files to see the subs quicker since they tend to come out earlier than others, then when Shinsen rolls their version out I will download them to replace the Gattai .ass files, and then I'll keep the raws around for posterity and screen capping (which I do mainly as a hobby and mech/engineering lover). I'm thinking of burning DVDs with the Shinsen subs as well, they are definitely worth it, can anyone tell me do most DVD players play burned DVDs well or is there a way to check to make sure mine can? Also is DVD-R or DVD-RW better?

He says something to the extent of "ote something something ni tanomu" in Japanese. It's hard to make out because of all the sound but I think myself and the translator figured it was "hand" and the rest being something about extending help. =P

edit: no mention of shinsen when i started typing and by the time i post, 2 or 3 were asking about them. MF fans on the same wavelength apparently. possibly linked by purpe crystals? ;)

has shinsen dropped MF from their roster? i don't think i've seen their ep6 much less ep7 (yeah, they had a raw, but that doesn't count). i've preferred their subs (balance of translation/interpretation and presentation) in past episodes so i'm keen to see what they'll do on ep7.

compared GG and AiA and it seemed to be a trade off between "lively dialogue" and presentation. the AiA version was much cleaner and well composed (though i don't know how much liberty they took in the interpretation) such that they avoided being too literal and didn't have subs that just flashed for less than half a second just to keep up.

having said that i thought AiA was too "polite" and i actually enjoyed the GG subs more, despite the cluttered presentation and sometimes clunky sentence structure.

what i mean is:

- when ozma tells alto not to fall behind, GG says "stay close enough to smell my ass" and AiA say"keep your nose on the scent of my afterburners"

- when ozma unleashes a missile barrage, GG says "eat this!" and AiA says "take this!"

- as alto is charging the carrier, GG says "that ship is like a hedgehog", AiA says "the enemy is high-ranking"

minor quibbles to be sure, and have no idea on accuracy, just goes to show how strongly subbers can influence the flavor or character of a show with their interpretations of the dialogue.

when all is said and done, i'm just grateful there are fansubbers out there doing this great stuff for us non-natives. keep up the good work!

I have my opinions on the 3 subs released so far, but the only one I'm really wanting to share is that its a real shame GG has to go and ruin their sub with a f-bomb in the opening sequence.

Frontier is still an active project at Shinsen, they just don't have a steady release schedule with it. If I recall correctly, they've only released 2 episodes in the week following their broadcast. I"m a big Shinsen fan as well, so I feel your pain. :)

DVD-R tend to have better compatibility with DVD players. if you go with DVD-RW, "finalizing" them improves compatibility because they basically are turned to normal DVD-R, so defeats the purpose of using RW.

me, i'll be holding out for well subbed blurays. this show (this ep in particular) is definitely worth full HD!

I couldn't figure that last one out. I know for sure the second line by Alto is hedgehog. I don't know what the line by Mikhail was (which means I probably got it wrong). There's a word pun/joke in there that I couldn't figure out. Oh well, screw the hedgehogs.

The first Ozma line I had fun with. I actually mentioned it earlier in the thread. There's two ways to interpret it without knowing the kanji. "尻の匂い" or "smell of my butt" or "後の匂い" or "the smell behind me." I went with the second replacing back with afterburner and smell with scent. It works because the latter is euphemism. I actually thought "smell of my butt" initially but I remembered the other kanji and went "OOOH, I GET TO MAKE THE LINE FUN WITH PLANE RELATED TERMS" verbally. Oh, and Ozma boosted away.

I am downloading the Shinsen subs now after seeing that, I am trying to get my anime watching friends into Macross and having the episodes in a DVD that can be played in a regular player is better than having everyone around the pc.

missed that at the start because the subs were running over eachother. caught it after you pointed it out.

yeah the f at the start was unwarranted. even sounded pretentious

The AiA I-Z subbed version doesn't play on any of my three stand alone DVD players when burned to DVD-R, neither does the Gattai .MKV version.

My three stand alone DVD players are a 3 year old Aiwa, a brand new Samsung & and a 1 year old no-brand, cheap Chinese DVD player which normaly plays everything.

The only fansub release that plays on my stand alone DVD players and normal TV when burned to DVD-R and is the Shinsen Subs .AVI version. Although, sometimes the subs run off the edge of the screen when watching on the 21" TV in my bedroom. Haven't tried watching them on the wide screen TV in my living room yet.

As well as file type and encoding, I'm wondering does resolution aslo have something to do whether or not they will play on a stand alone DVD player? Sorry, not an expert on audio-visual matters.

Does the DVD player read computer files from a disc or it it just a DVD player? If the former, then it probably doesn't support MP4 or MKV and you'd have to re-encode them. The other option is to use some software to author a playable DVD that works on a regular player. I usually do the latter for myself if someone isn't very good with a computer.

On that note, I'll try that now with our releases.

either one was cool. in retrospect, the afterburner reference was a good one. just that the "scent" threw me off (pardon the pun) because the sentence dragged to long making the phrase less tight. "stay close enough to smell my afterburners" might have been a good compromise, but heck i'm no expert. like i said, i'm just thankful you guys do what you do! cheers!

Just regular DVD players.

Normally, I'll watch Frontier on my work laptop, which can handle .MKV, .AVI & .MP4 files with ease, just it's a pain carrying it home everyday, so I like to have the eps on a DVD to watch on my standalone DVD players, so I can watch them when I don't bring my work laptop home.

I'm usually rewatching one episode at least of Frontier every night.

you're actually insulting the general culture of a people that is coming up with... let's see, i dunno, anime??

well sure if you don't like anime, thats fine.but if you do, and you still insult the japanese as opposed to america, then there's something wrong there. stick with shrek. or ice age. or surf's up. take your pick. they all broke box office records there anyway.

If I had the script, I'd probably guess it's the former of the two I mentioned but since I don't have the actual script or the closed captions, I got to play a little. It is a bit long compared to how Ozma says it though. Flavor over read time is a tradeoff I can take.

Graham: I'm authoring a DVD right now, I'll let you know how it goes.

Graham: I did a quick authoring using Nero Vision and it works perfectly. Doing a simple authoring job (plug in the episodes and encode, don't have to do chapters or menus) will probably work for you.

The video looks really awesome on my TV. Gonna give it another shot on a different TV and DVD player to see if the video matches up.

getting a bit late to put my 2 cents in, but i'm thinking that the reason Brera shot the gun was not to hinder their escape, but to protect the big purple crystal that was right above where luca was tentacled up.

Brera looks definitely NUNS, but clearly there is a group in NUNS that's more interested in data than people. everyone's least favorite mophead would be in this category. this ties into the instructions Lt Glass was given about the importance of getting information too.

Watched episode 7 and for the most part loved it. Nice action, the Konig Monster sequence was killer :p I liked how the battle played out along with Sheryl's farewell concert. So now we have a triangular conflict to go along with the love triangle, interesting -_- I liked how noobish Alto was in the battle being caught up in everything around him; kid needs to develop better situational awareness lest that gets him killed (oh wait he's protected by Plot Armor  )

I do have issues with the Macross 1/4 sequence, the only thing that saved it was small size of the ship allowed me to give it the benefit of the doubt. If the ship was Battle 7 size or so, I would have called shenanigans. I liked how in SDF:M it was explained that the ship needed to transform to fire the main guns. I don't like that they continued the idea of transforming cap ships in Macross 7 with Battle 7. It's not a deal breaker or anything, just a minor annoyance to me.

Were those fixed gun turrets on the Macross 1/4 or were they Cheyenne type Destroids?

Both, those the destroids may be later model Cheyenne, it's hard to tell.

There are a lot of el-cheapo chinese players now (as well as big name ones) that will play AVIs and MKVs. It saves you a lot of trouble, I just burn to a DVD-RW. Usually I prefer to watch at the computer anyway. I was never a fan of watching TV on a couch.

i think a battle cruiser transformation has its tactical advantages in space warfare in the macross universe. otherwise, UN Spacey (or in this case SMS) would not have bothered including a reconfiguration in the design of its vessels. for instance, a close combat attack such as the macross' daedelus atatck and the quarter's pounder attack (for lack of a better term) could only have been possible in battroid form.

in the original series, of course Global would have preferred not using the transformation the first time since he knew the havoc it would cause to the citizens on board (the civilian city was never part of the original design after all). if he could get away with firing the main gun while still in cruiser mode, he would have. but if the civilians were not on board, i think the battroid form is the standard attack mode of macross.

They looked EXACTLY like Cheyenne model Destroids to me. (If anybody picked any differences, let me know, I am interested in this.)

I have a sneaking suspicion that the animators might have gotten lazy and be using the old models from Macross Zero. Not that there is anything wrong with them, but I am sure that if Macross 1/4 is so good it should not be equipped with early or first model destroids.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the Cheyenne's though.
