Yeah, this episode showed us that the VF-25 is pretty tough.

Alto's VF-25 had it's right(?) wing tip blown off when he was approaching the Vajra carrier in fighter mode.

Then once inside the carrier, he took the hit to the back, which completely blew off both wings.

Next, IIRC he may have taken some hits to the arm shield (just going by memory), when he was shooting at the first yellow Vajra, resulting in no additional damage.

Then he took the hit to the right arm, which disabled it, but didn't blow it off.

Then he took the hit which completely destroyed the head.

Lastly, after he'd transformed to Gerwalk, the 2nd Yellow Vajra used it's tail spike to destroy the VF-25 Gerwalk.

Graham

You have a good point Graham. If it had been a VF-1 would have been trashed much sooner. When the wing was damaged it didn't seem to mess with the stability in GERWALK form either.

I think you could be right.

Actually, Grace is pretty hot.

Graham

they have all the girl-types for us fan-boys in MacrossF.

The sexy n haughty exhibitionist (Sheryl), the innocent loli for lolicons (Ranka), the dependable OL office lady (Grace), the bespectacled busty girl (Nanase), the inflexible officer for those uniform fetish (Cathy), the pink-haired cutey (Ram), the smart girl (Mina), the usually serious yet horny (Monica), the 2-in-1 for those who can't decide if they like busty or flat chest (Klan Klan), the tom-boy (Raramia), the gentle (Nene), the matured (Kanaria).

Oh, and Bobby.

PS > someone who can edit the Wiki, please correct the entry on Luca, it says "He pilots a green RVF-25 Johanne", which clearly is a mistake - Johanne is one of Luca's ghost drones.

Seems to me that the commercials would ruin the mood more than an eyecatch would...

 but the commercials are a given. id rather have that commercial break than not have a show at all.

anyways, i can't even complain about commercials, because the videos i watch no longer have them. :)

hey shun, how could you add bobby, and not add alto-hime??

Go to the Tokyoshoto site and enter 'Macross Fronter 07' in the search box. It comes up as the first item in the search results. And it has an "English" icon next to it, instead of a "Raw" icon.

It's a Chinese sub.

I originally thought so, too on the first viewing. On the second viewing, I noticed that the image was being projected from the end of her necklace.

I just noticed something... Isn't Grace's necklace adorned with a pink rock (or Super Dimensional Resonance Crystal) at the tip? Maybe is a fold transmission device of some sort!!!! (I'm starting to believe that she could be associated with Mr. Bilrer somehow...).

I don't know if I'm buying this whole Super Dimension Crystal thing...I hope the show doesn't go that route.

i hope so too. but they're really setting the "fold dislocation" and fold delay problems as substantial issues so far. so i'm guessing the series is going that route (i.e. towards a new and improved fold technology). whether or not the crystal is a "super dimension" thingy is something i'm not yet ready to speculate on, though.

maybe it's part of an intent to introduce something new to the macross universe. Mac 7 has its spirit force, macross zero had its eyetracker. mac+ had its mind-machine link and fold-capable valks. maybe this is the new thing for macF: instantaneous or unlimited fold.

edit: Ah crap, nevermind...

I think Ranka's glowing belly can be attributed to one of two things: either her natural origin i.e. a genetic trait (Protoculture/ Mayan / Vajra) or maybe just implants from when she was on the 117th research fleet. Or maybe it's just that she had much more exposure to the Vajra than anyone when she was little ( they did test on everyone exposed to them so there must be something there).

but but... Alto's not a real girl... Bobby IS.

yes noticed it in the ep where sheryl was trapped. although it didn't show any special abilities associated with the crystal -yet-, it is coincidentally an accessory, just like Sheryl's earrings, Vilra's ring etc...

my impression is that Grace needs to pull on the necklace to 'activate' part of her cybernetic implant function(s). maybe it connects to her brain somewhere in the back of her neck...

looks like this is how its going to be. the vajra 'fold reactor', sheryl's voice heard by Alto and Brera... all points towards this crystal. but we still don't know why the vajra wants to capture people with this gem, who are behind the vajra, who's behind the vf-27 etc... still quite alot of questions left ;)

True, true...it's still early, and any plot device, no matter how hoary or cliché-ridden, can work if it's done right.

So I guess I'm willing to sit back and WAFO.

Ep 7 was one of the best I've seen. The animation rocked, and I loved the action sequences. Also a few homages here too, and the final song that Sheryl sang was great. I'm wanting that as soon as the OST is out. She looked hot too!

More questions are good at this early stage IMO. Keeps us guessing. Don't want things too predictable. As long as the questions get wrapped up by the end of the series though.

It's a bit depressing to think we are already a quarter of the way through the series. It's so good, I just want it to go on and on for 100+ episodes! (if they can keep the same level of quality so far).

By no means are more questions bad. It just sucks we have to wait til thursday because this just seems so amazing. Hopefully there are going to be some VF-25 and VF-27s to buy soon.

i agree. however, i don't think there will be answers in this coming episode. after such a fantastic mecha action festival, i'm pretty sure ep 8 will be your pre-requisite breather and standard character-interaction episode. :)

yeah, i also wish this show can go on. like graham, each completed episode brings with it a sadness of something good about to end. on the other hand, i also wouldn't like it to drag on into oblivion, just for the sake of continuing the series. breaking the series down into 24ep seasons could be a good idea.

I disagree. If you remember episode 5 (which came after 4, which had lots of military action), several important bits of information regarding the Vajra were shown there despite being a relatively calm episode... It also showed Mr. Bilrer for the first time (sort of) . I bet we will have some VAJRA/Bilrer/NUNS/Harmonica revelations next episode beside all the moe/kawaii/fan service/school action stuff shown in the preview at the end of episode 7... even a new character could be introduced too, hehe... ^_^

I just love the pace of this series...

Yeah definitely, as long as it is a good ending with an epic space battle. Since the producers know that Macross is such a cashcow, they should do another Macross TV series every two years after Macross F like the Gundam franchise !

I'd settle for 52...26 just seems too short for a Macross TV series.

I recall the original SDFM was meant to be around 24-26 eps after some reservations by the sponsors, it was only after the sponsors decided to give them more money that it was extended to 36.

It was planned out as a 50+ ep series, but they cut it down to 26, then they extended it to 36. Hence the whole aftermath plot.

I think this episode proved that a 5 meter long Macross Quarter in 1/60 scale would damn cool.

I'm confident that it would sell... I wouldn't wanna pay the shipping to get one in the US though

On another topic: why does everyone seem to think the VF-27 is superior to the VF-25? We haven't seen anything to really indicate that it's superior, just different.

The way it movies. The fact that it can fold without external fold boosters. Dude, its higher high-tech than the -25. :D

Does the VF-27 really fold on its own or is it just piggybacking on the fold of an escort battleship?

I'm guessing that the engines nacelled on each wing are actually fold boosters, or at least contain fold boosters of some sort.

That could just as easily be attributed to a different purpose-- such as the VF-27 being a specops fighter instead of a main VF like the VF-25 is. Like the VF-22 vs the VF-19.

There probably wouldn't be much of a point in giving internal fold drives to units that would almost always be operating alongside their carrier. They can always be fitted with fold boosters if/when they need them, so the extra expense isn't warranted.

You've got a point on the movements, though. I'd also note that, at least to me, the VF-27 seems a bit bulkier than the VF-25. Maybe it's intended to be a self=sufficient, internalized design as opposed to the extremely expandable but pack-reliant -25. It reminds me of the intent of Project Supernova-- a fighter that could infiltrate enemy lines on its own and accomplish a variety of missions.

Hence the internal fold boosters. :) And I am going to *guess* that there is some purple stone technology involved with it.
