Good thing daggit wasn't included in the dialogue. Felgercarb wasn't good enough as a curse word. Speaking of Felgercarb watch . The diector's cut is here. That was awesome. And yeah..."feldercarb." I don't miss it much. Neither do I miss "Yahren," "Centon," "Daggit," or any of the other dumb "space" words they came up with for the original show. I can see why they kept "Frak," though. Einherjar Posted December 8, 2009 Share Posted December 8, 2009 I feel a little sorry for Boxey in the new version, because I don't think I've seen him since he was playing cards with Boomer the miniseries. I thought he was actually going to be a character, instead of just a little in-joke thrown in to make people think, "PLEASE, Lord, don't let him get a robot dog!" RDM said in a podcast the ribs were always there and she didn't need additional armor smooth armor. Apparently designed to take on nukes. I bought the Miniseries a few weeks ago...and I was talking with my mom last week, and mentioned that I was watching the show and really liking it (all she knew was that that it got stellar reviews in the newspaper), and she asked, "Is that something you'd want from Christmas or your birthday?" And I said, "Sure." Given that Razor Flashback episodes 1 and 2 aren't in the DVD help yourself. An extra four minutes of material wouldn't have slowed the movie down much. And yeah, I liked the movie a lot. The first half seemed kind of...unnecessary, since it was merely dramatizing events that had been fully narrated during the series (although Kain's relationship with Six was something of a surprise...I originally thought Kain's death was kind of anticlimactic, but I'm going to have to revise that opinion now). But the "present day" story was quite interesting, and it was fun to see the new series' take on the old Cylon types. It doesn't really change my impression of most of the events of the past season and a half (although it would've if Shaw had been able to communicate the Hybrid's message to Lee), but overall, qite a nice addition to the story. And now it's time to gird my loins and finish up the original series...dare I go on to Galactica 1980 when I'm done? Will I be able to stand watching it? I think my mind tried to block out most of the experience for the sake of self-preservation. All I remember is that our intrepid pilots were chaperoning a bunch of fleet kids masquerading as cub scouts. Hijinks ensue. They are too big in the Scorpion Shipyard scene. Valkyrie mesured 1200 meters. While the Galactica type got bulkier than the Pegasus. Another is the inconsistencies in the Berzerk class escort. According to Charles Oines of Irrational Designs porfolio the ship dubbed Berzerk class escort is 842 meters. On another note the double Y basestars notice since Collaborators they've changed the render. This is a recon. The original look carrying a capacity of 864 Raiders while the newer render 434 Raiders. Gubaba Posted December 10, 2009 Share Posted December 10, 2009 I just watched "Experiment in Terra" today, which finishes off the trilogy of episodes about Terra, which (wink wink) may or may not be earth (turns out it's not). Another episode presenting the idea that civilian government is weak and ineffectual, and only a military dictatorship can really get things done. Needless to say, I find this idea rather abhorrent. Strong defense? Sure. Realistic approaches to genuine threats? Absolutely. Dictatorship...? Well, that's a different story entirely. One of the biggest problems I'm having with the Original Series now as I near its end, is its willingness to raise incredibly huge, complex questions (about government, or *ahem* religion), and then just kind of toss off a facile answer. Then everyone smiles. Freeze frame. The end. I would hope that, had the series been granted a second season, they would have explored these recurring themes with a little more depth, but I doubt it would have happened. Terrans also have their own colonies and ships. But not comparable to Colonials or Cylons. Also this a take on the Cold War and MAD. With the Nationalists as the West and the Eastern Alliance as the Soviet equivalent. Yeah since Saga of the Star World the civilian governments are portrayed as weak if it goes for a peace settlement. Enemies are not to be trusted mentality. In the real world it is not that simple minded. Even opposing governments and factions go in negotiations. The Galactica is a Dues Ex Machina taking down the nuclear missiles. As is the Ship of Lights. The Ship of Lights are portrayed as some mysterious ascended beings. With Iblis as some fallen angel , who had a hand in the extinction of the original reptile Cylon race and the creation of the mechanical Cylons. Oh if you're interested there is a Battlestar Galactica 1980 reimagined series comic out now. What is so differrent about it? Two words... Dr. Gaius Zee. Oh Felgercarb! Additonally: Colonel, I served with Saul Tigh; I knew Saul Tigh; Saul Tigh was a friend of mine. Colonel, you're no Saul Tigh. Nah Just Tigh... Colonel Tigh. I'm not surprised...the original Tigh is an eminently forgettable character. The only truly good scene he had (that I can recall and/or have seen so far) was when he convinced Apollo and Starbuck to go against the orders of the Quorum of Twelve in "Baltar's Escape." So I'm taking the time between seasons to finish watching the original series, which I find tremendously bad overall. I figure I've watched 23 episodes of the first series (and I'm watching the last one sometime today). I figure if I've come this far I might as well rent Galactica 1980 and complete the saga... Well, I look at it this way. I like the little locally-owned used DVD sales/rental shop. They've already paid for the DVDs and it's not like they need two copies of something like Galactica 1980. A ship or fleet full of military and civilians trying to find their way home. (Macross and Galactica), A song having something to do with their survival. (Minmay's songs and All Along the Watchtower) A great pilot dying or sacrificing themselves to save others. (Roy and Starbuck) Finally finding "home" only to discover it's been devastated. (Earth in both series, or at least DYRL) Realizing that your enemy and your own race were once united, or the same. Calling a truce with former enemy rebels only to unite and battle against the rest of the common enemy. Love triangles. (Boomer-Cally-Tyrol, Lee-Starbuck-Anders, Tigh-Six-Baltar) Just a thought. The reason my DVD Provider started, um, providing the DVDs was because I was working on Macross at the coffee shop where we hang out, and she asked what I was working on. I told her about Macross, and she immediately asked, "Have you watched Battlestar Galactica?" Oh, and I didn't read your list of similarities because I figure there are some spoilers in there. You have to realize that WGA Strike really affected the planning and quality.
