Well, not a Minmay Attack specifically, but I wonder what lasting impact Basara has had on the rest of the Macross universe, etc.

I guess my main point is, is Sheryl here JUST for her tour, or did they also want her there to help in some way in the fight against the enemy?

And of course, Sheryl isn't Basara - but I wonder if her presence is part of their strategy.

I think that's a very safe bet.

#1 When Sheryl arrives at the airport the president personally calls "Misa" and tells her that there will be huge ramifications if anything should happen to Sheryl.

#2 Then when the aliens attack, the president makes a mysterious phone call and indicates that he knew about the presence of the aliens and knew that they would be attacking.

#3 Then after the attack, Sheryl is personally escorted to safety by Misa and the president's body guards.

It seems obvious to me that Sheryl's safety is extremely valuable to the military and government, and not only because she's an intergalactic pop star. They definitely have plans for her.

Both the President and Ozma say something to the effect of, "they're here". Watching the new subs, its pretty clear the code "Victor 3" to the SMS was specifically refering to these SM. They knew they were out there. And the SMS is a "private" organization with the latest, state of the art fighters and weaponry... there is much more to this.

Early in the episode, when the Frontier is first introduced, its stated that the Frontier "was continuing its journey toward the center of the galaxy". Makes me wonder what is there, and I suspect, from the reaction of the President and the SMS that perhaps they didn't expect to run into these SM that far out from the galactic core.

I don't know how accurate the fan sub is, but I have a few questions concerning the meeting at the Frontier President's office.

I wonder why the President said this: "Is the Army not following orders?"

To me, this seems to imply that the military, presumably UNS, was supposed to clear the way for their manifest destiny but either couldn't or didn't.

Who is the gentleman he is speaking to in the white uniform (I will assume that he is military)? What does everyone think his angle is in the series?

I saw him yet again in the second episode previews.

Just saw it. I'm thankful that there's a subbed Youtube version even as bad as it is out there, as my parents are still in the dial-up age and I can't get a better version until I go home.

I don't get the harsh critisium of Sheryl though. Just one episode we can only tell so much. I know even as much as I fly I'm still amazed at what I can see. I particually like seeing every star in the sky at night. And it wasn't like she could do much for the people either, and it seemed like there were issues that would probably be revealed later as to why her security shouldn't be compromised.

So what's up with Ranka ? That SMS squad leader seems to be a relation of hers, but again bad subs so I can't tell. If she's supposed to be a singer soon too I want dueling banjo/singing-stuff between her and Sheryl. :p

I think the best part of the show I don't think people touched on was the lighting. It was constantly flawless in my opinion compaired to what you usually see in anime today. Usually they are colored the same in all lights which looks lazy. Whereas people were complaining about changing hair colors I think it was all intentional due to lighting.(hey mine's blond in bright like brown in dark). I noticed the episode was in a twilight-light setting, don't know if that's supposed to be foretelling or it just worked that way but it really stood out for me.

I don't know if the President "expecting" the fighters is really that special. I think they were just thinking that such was to be expected eventually or if someone else ran into them. SMS was called obviously because the regular army wasn't that great. Though yeah they could be in on it too.

I tried to catch as many info from the "migration" part of episode 1. Here is what I was able to gather.

Fleets departing from Earth starting from 2012 (note that Megaroads have a different background image than New Macross class fleets and different designations):

(counterclockwise)

- megaroad 01 SDF002 (Super Dimension Fortress)

- megaroad 02 SDF003

- megaroad 04 SDF005

- m-frontier NEW025 (New Macross Class Aircraft Carrier)

- macross 05

- macross 07

- megaroad 13 SDF014

- macross 01

- megaroad 06 SDF007

- macross 03

- megaroad 09 SDF010

Fleets departing from Eden starting from 2013

(in no particular order)

- m-galaxy NEW021

- macross 08

- macross 17

- macross 09

- macross 15

- macross 23

- macross 20

- macross 19?

- macross ??

- macross ??

To sum things up, these are all the fleets departed from either Earth or Eden that we know of:

- megaroad 01 SDF002 (Super Dimension Fortress)

- megaroad 02 SDF003

- megaroad 04 SDF005

- megaroad 06 SDF007

- megaroad 09 SDF010

- megaroad 13 SDF014

- macross 01

- macross 03

- macross 05

- macross 07

- macross 08

- macross 09

- macross 15

- macross 17

- macross 19?

- macross 20

- m-galaxy (macross 21)

- macross 23

- m-frontier (macross 25)

- macross ??

- macross ??

In a brief moment, we can clearly see Megaroad 01 heading slightly towards a bright spot into space: did they steer away from the core or follow M-Frontier (Megaroad 01 is the farthest line on the left)?

BTW, don't go by anything you read in the bad sub. There is a far surperior one out now, and things are very different. And there is info about the characters and their relationships on MW's Macross F page.

As far as the Macross 8 goes, I'm pretty sure that's a 6 and not an 8, but I'll take another look.

Defintely the Macross 6. Was hell finding the right frame, it exits the frame on the right hand side pretty quickly. I'll see if I can grab a screen shot.

Edit: No go with WMP, and VLC doesn't like the HD raw video. But its there. Directly above it is the 7, and above it the 9.

Here are some quick and dirty rendition of the NUNS insignia

The one in the VF-171s and in amber on the sim screen, also on a book in the president desk:

This one is on the ships id tags on the sim screen, except for the Frontier Shell 'window', that one doesn't have the central line (which I suspect is not a line but text)

And this is on the uniforms:

Also note that same insignia on her hat badge:

I'm not sure I see the flaps there in those screenshots - although I guess I see what you mean if you're saying that they are completely covered by her hair.

Strictly speaking, it wouldn't make much sense for her to have dog ear flaps in addition to regular human ears though.

I still think somehow she has some sort of telekinetic control over her hair (or more things perhaps).

With what we've seen in Macross recently, that's totally possible, but right now I am going on the assumption that she's just a kawaii anime girl.

Yeah - normally that would actually be my instinct in seeing that bit with her "hair" perking up like a big dog ear - that it was more of an animation joke, as opposed to something that should be taken as a literal ability.

I guess the only reason I don't is that there isn't anything else particularly in Episode 1 of Macross F that hints at those kind of comedy anime animation jokes.

Forgot to mention that the 1st and 3rd type of insignia es very similar to the Anti-UN insignia in SDF Macross

Also some mentioned that the AA barrage from the fleet have no effect, but if you watch closelly, it takes down two of the "blue tailed" bugs.

My vote goes to this one :D

Maybe the future of cellphones are anti-sleek. Therefore, we get squeezable blobs that look like mousepad wrist supports. I'd love to have one too.
